I've been seeing a lot of things saying that they are proud catholics and we should say it so i am and proud of if you are then say so too.
(if you just going to make fun of us dont bother posting because i wont resond.)

I have a feeling you might want to read the purpose of this forum on the header. "Who is...?" threads are more poll than discussion, and just end up becoming locked train wrecks. Bring up an issue or loaded question for discussion, but do expect rebuttals from an opposing side.

Catholic by baptism, Agnostic by nature.

Catholiscism turned my father off from religion entirely.

If this thread isn't about an issue, let's make it one.

The following rant is my view on the issue, not an insult to those who disagree. If anyone finds it harsh, PM me and I'll edit it as long as the point stays the same. Recent forum endangering unrest in this forum and my own tendency to be a cocky ass has moved me to say, no offense meant. We're all adults here.


I disagree with an institution as powerful and influencial as the Catholic Church. People all over the world who are in power base their descisions off the policies of this institution, only to have it be run by a gangster looking guy who is so old fashioned that he finds the Beatles shocking.

We don't need more political pressure to make condoms and birth control less available to teenagers just because some people still cling to a pipe dream that kids today will choose abstinence.

You know the Vatican orchestrated the crusades and turned a blind eye to the holocaust? I'm not saying it would do so today, but who knows? If similar events were to come into play, I don't trust it as far as I can throw it.

A faith is a faith, and moral values are moral values. A heavily political institution that bases itself on conjecture and tradition of varying datedness, and has to constantly update itself when newer scientific evidence contrary to it's mellenia-old tenents keeps coming out, has no business existing.
