So, for the autobots, should I have everyone be Chrysler-Fiat vehicles or Mercedes-Benz for the base?
I'm being fairly quiet on details because if I get the chance I actually want to pitch it.
Also, I'm not going go for the company with more performance cars.

Those hands, I can't forget those silly, delicate hands. Always spinning and dancing and cutting away, spinning and dancing and crushing away, twirling and whirling and warping around and away. No escape, no escape. Every time I close my eyes they come back. Any serenity I gain is lost by their image. No escape, no escape, nothing can get me away from those dancing, enthusiastic, delicate hands and their diamond fingers.......

My best advice is to say that transformers, as fictional characters, typically select alternate forms that most closely match their personalities. After all, as humans, don't we do the same when selecting attire, accessories, and transportation? and transformers are a man- made concept and I'm starting to get way deeper than I need to so, yeah...
mercedees= aristocrat, concerned with outward appearance(mirage, tracks) or BA suave double agent/espionage type (jazz)
fiat= inferiority complex (g1 bumblebee) or hippee/environmentally aware (skids, beachcomber) or scout type (bumblebee)
from a business point of view, which of these types most closely resembles your target market- the audience wants to be able to relate, on some level, to the characters so that they can become involved in the story more and thus improve their experience

From a filmmakers perspective, you could just do it in space and make your own vehicles or place it in the future. Also you've got to ask, what cars best fit the art theme of the movie. I wouldn't touch a fiat or Benz if I could help it, unless I new what I wanted the overall feel of the art to express. Bay got it right when wanting to express his movies as "American" as possible. I just really feel that the art could be brought up to a higher level if you were to base the movie on Cybertron. Might want to consider something a little close to Avatar in making the movie.
I have to admit too I'd love to see a Transforming T-top Trans-Am, Corvette, and Charger.
