As a big fan of Grim and your art work, I have to say that new Grimlock design is awesome! I can't help but wonder what his alt form looks like though. Sweet work as ever Sir!

how's this ?

That's amazing! love the 'beasty' look! Seriously, I could go on forever... so cool that you're on the forum. If you have some time, check out my gallery

I'm pretty sure by the look of Grimlock it would be similiar to his War Within design. As for Don, great job with the Transformers comics! I'm glad your artwork isn't blocky like Andrew Wildman's work or too-animeish like Pat Lee's work. Nobody can draw Transformers as good as Don. :)

It is an interesting verison. The only problem I had with the actual War Within design for him though, is that you broke his caterpillar treads on his arms for the arms to emerge. That is probalby one of my biggest pet peaves because it really breaks all laws fo physics. Caterpillar treads are a continuous belt. If you break that belt, the treads flop open and fall off. They need to be kept intact. IF you could figure out a way to keep that over-all look without compromising the integrity of the capterpillar treads, it would be perfect.

it's been done lots of times before, G1 Scavenger, Bonecrusher, Warpath, Blitzwing? hell, even Brawl/Devastator in the movie does it.. all their treads break in transformation.

Yeah, I know they do, That doesn't make it any less impossible and just poor design on their part. If I had my way, they would all get redesigns to correct that flaw. And, I'm not really sure movie Brawl's treads do break. I know on the toy they do, but in the movie itself, it looks like the entire tread assemblies movie up onto his shoulders and back. It doesn't look like they break at all, and I didn't notice any part of his treads on his legs like on the toy either.

but I get you, this is why I did the first Titanium Megatron have a continious tread for his leg, my initial design was for him to have actual working rubber treads, with joints like Armada Scavenger's arm. but that would have proved too costly.

I think there could have been another solution, possibly be having the arms come out from between the front treads and the body so that the treads are attached at the shoulders, similar, but not the same as Megatron. Keeping the same horizontal position, but slid out when he transformed. The other option would be to do similar Armada Megatron and have the arms flip out and around from the side of the tread housing, and latch into place sandwiching the treads above the elbow. That would keep the front treads intact, but locked in place in robot mode.

On a side note, why did you change Kup's design from his G1 design? His existing G1 design was already a Cybertronian mode, so he really didn't need a new "pre-Earth mode" design. Don't get me wrong, it looked cool, but it seemed a bit unnecessary. All in all it is one of my favorite series though. And, I loved the "Elita-1 sexy silhoette" mudflaps on Prime. Very nice touch.

WW happened a long time ago.I figured back in the days, Kup was also a kind of 'Turbo revvin young punk' himself.
but the transformation's the same, it's just reversed.
and besides, Transformers change their bodies all the time. even more often nowadays. I did'nt think it's nescessary for Armada Galvatron to changed back into Megatron in Energon and again in Cybertron. just so he can change back to Galvatron again.
Yeah, it just seemed wierd because, even in War Within, he was already an "old coot" spouting off his wisdom and experience, and bickering with Ironhide, the other old-timer.

I'm too lazy to hunt down the end I want, but As I recall, aren't most Cat treads "links"S and therefore could seperate, sttick to the inside, and poof they split in half? Tehn their hooked back like a braceletwhen they go to vehicle?

Treads aside, I LOVE that grimlock. Use it. We beg of you. (And pop by Devart, we'd love it more, if that's possible)

Don's Grimlock is a very good design to based Movie Grimlock on. (for TF2)

With a little modification, it can fit right into TF2. (Modification due to the preference of Bay on skeletal type designs.)

Hi Don,

Gald to see you'll be dropping from time to time :)

God, if you ever get some spare time, not likely I know, but I'd LOVE for you to draw one of my 1 page stories for the Mosaic project. I've got something like 20 odd stories to choose from :)

Keep up the good work!!!!!!

Hey Don wassup? Love your work.
You have to excuse Tramp. Treads really are his pet peeve. It's been discussed for many many pages at Transtopia. I'm here on Seibertron by way of Transtopia. You have a great gallery over there. As a fellow artist I say anybody can draw a figure, but to build one is truly amazing, which brings me to my favorite Transformer ever. I would like to own this. I would give all of my transformers stuff to just have Stronghold. Do you still have him? How much for him?

Unfortunately, Stronghold suffered some significant damage during a move to a new place. I thought about repairing him but it'll take a whole lot of time which I dont have at the moment. so he's in a box in my garrage, locked in statis
I did thought about buidling a new one with a new design, infact. the design was used in the Stormbringer comic as the Wreakers' battle cruiser Xantium

Yeah, don't mind Tramp, he just has this habit of whining about "Physical possiblity" in cartoons and comics, even if they are about something already scientifically impossible like giant transforming robots from another planet. You know, unlike the REST OF US who watch and read things for entertainment. But yeah, Don, seriously, man your work is freakin' sweet! What would Galvatron look like if there were ever a WW Design for him (I know War Within's set before the Ark landed on Earth, but I'm just curious as to what Galvatron might look like if he were around back then.)

Wouldn't Galvatron's cannon mode be a 'cybertronian' form already?

Transforming robotic life forms aren't physically impossible. They don't break the laws of physics in any way. The onlything that might is their size, and that is only because of weight distribution. Other than that, they don't break any laws of physics. There is nothing physically impossible about non-organic life form, or even mechanical based life forms. Science has theorized the possibilities of life developing from something other than organic compounds. What is so impossible about them then?

Cybertron's made of metal, but it seems to have it's own orbit (Moons.) Transformers speak every language perfectly, are capable of their own speech and thoughts, some can fly in robot mode without aircraft (Physically impossible in Cybertron's gravity, which would appear to be the same as ours, going by the comics, AND cartoons, since The Neoknights in the comics, and the Witwicky family are able to comfortably relocate there in the cartoon.) And you have Unicron who too, seems to have his own centre of gravity, despite being a robot/planet. There are also things such as mass shifting, which needs somewhere to go, Prime's Trailer disappearing, and many other things.

Well, let's look at this. Cybertron is made of metal. Certainly not impossible. It has its own gravity, quite logical. I would be strange if it didn't. Given its size relative to Earth, it can be surmised it isn't as dense as Earth LArger volume, same mass, quite possible. A breathable atmosphere is also quite possible. Unicron having his own gravity too makes perfect sense given his size. He is a planet after all. Everything has gravity. The more massive it is the stronger the pull. Their ability to learn languages quickly is also not impossible. Mass conversion is probably impossible, but works as a "Fantastic element" like faster than light travel. Prime's trailer, Are you absolutely sure it competely disappears, and doesn't simply remain off-screen? IT does do its own transformation you know, and we never see it actually vanish. It simply moves off-screen and out of our sight. Everybody simply assumes it vanishes into some pocket dimension. transFormer flight in robot mode is also not physically impossible. All it requires is some form of thrust and some lift.

Asking questions is not disrespectful. Getting into the mind of an artist or writer is far from disrespect. It is one of the highewst forms of respect because it means you want to know more about that artist or writer and why he did what he did. IT also pushes that artist to further his craft to the best of his ability. Not only that, but if you don't ask, you will never know the answer.

Tramp, asking questions isn't disrespectful, correcting the artist is. And Toyotus, you think it ends here, everytime you try to point your view out and it contradicts Tramp's view of a perfect unified, sceintifically perfect version of Transformers, it blows up into a multiple page debate of random bolding and backpeddling, check this thread out for example, look at the post below mine where he says something about Transformers being set in reality:

No, Damolisher just likes to twist my words around to suit him.

And, no Damolisher, correcting an artist';s error is not didsrespectful, either, since it is that correcting and judging of his work that pushes him to do better. I'm an artist myself, with two Associate Degrees in graphic arts (one in Cartooning, and one in Graphic Design), so in that regards I know exactly what I am talking about.

Well, if it makes you feel better, I understand that TF is supposed to take place in our timeline on our planet. But I dont know about applying scientific principles to a cartoon...... at school, they taught us that cartoons have their own set of laws and principles anyway.
