Lastest example of the Incredible Shrinking Deluxe Scale: FoC Jazz

Postby GuyIncognito » Thu Jul 19, 2012 7:49 am

I've been holding back on complaining about this, sometimes even defending Hasbro, trying to justify the shrinking of the Deluxe class, but FoC Jazz is the worst example yet. In alt mode, he's barely bigger than a Scout.

The worst part is that I paid $15 for him at TRU. I wouldn't mind if I had paid $10.

I could handle rising prices and I could handle shrinking figures.

I know Hasbro are in this to make money, but having to handle both takes pi$$ a little for me :(

Have to say, hasn't stopped me buying them so far...!!

that is crap. It's laughable that they can call them deluxes. I would rather a 2x price increase with the figures still staying in scale.

I did see a video review of Jazz where the reviewer made specific comment to how compact his car mode was in proportion to his robot mode due to the way he transforms.

I've not busted mine out yet, but how does he fare against the alt-modes of Prime or Shocky?

It reminds me of TFP Knockout. His car mode is tiny compared to the rest in the line, but his bot mode scales quite nicely.

Hmm, yes... in alt mode. How about in robot mode? And how about comparing whole lines (and not just last year's) as oppose to a handful of specific toys.

I'd love to see how the different classes have evolved over the years. Surely Deluxes have grown and shrunk several times before, paint aps increased and decreased, quality going up and down, etc., etc.. Yes they're shrinking now, but let's put this whole mess in perspective.

True dat. On a related note, I got my FOC Shockwave today. He is the same height as classics Starscream and very slightly taller than Thunderwing, but carries less bulk. He looks OK with Music Label Soundwave who is chunkier and a head taller. He only looks really silly when next to Megatron. Overall, I am quite happy, I actually like the figure a lot. If only he were a bit more substantial...

Go back to Armada. Anyone here have a deluxe Cyclonus? Or a deluxe Sideways? Fastforward to now. Puts things into a different perspective IMO. Cyclonus is almost the size of whats considered a "Voyager" today. Hell, they could release him as one if they wanted too.

Dude, you have made my day with that comparison pic. I've not been happy with all the deluxe cars of recent years since they look too large with the Diaclones and other scout cars like the G2 Stormtroopers and Laser Rods.

Hopefully, the other WFC 'cars' will be the same. I'd love WFC Breakdown, Sideswipe and Dead End close to Scout size like this.

I can't speak for Cyclonus, but Sideways is nowhere near the size of a Voyager. What I can say about Armada in general is that, while the general size was increased from Beast Wars/Machines, they had significantly poorer articulation. Hot Shot, for example, has SO
MUCH empty space in his altmode. Engineering has come a long way, and that bites into the budget a bit, I assume.

There are Ewoks that are slightly taller than Thunderwing though. ;)

No, it gets tucked into his back. His heels are the front part of the cannon in alt mode. :-?

I must agree that Hasbro shoulda made these figures larger. They almost dont fit into scale with the wfc figures and I was under the assumption that hasbro would attempt to make them fit in with other.
That said I like shockwave if for no other reason that he has a nice classics feel and more over hes one of only what....two shockwave figs available? I kinda hadda get him I suppose/
You realy want to laugh look at poor optimus. I think bumble bee is larger than he is.
It kinda feels like the O.P. got a bit bombarded for his opinon. Its alright to complain if you arent satisfied with things people. Thats how companes learn what we want. As long as it isnt senseless ranting maybe people shouldnt be so quick to accept anything hasbro throwa at us.

Wow, that's really a sobering picture.
I got a Vehicon the other week, and it does that fold over fold thing with the legs/car roof, so that his bot mode is much bigger than his alt mode would lead you to believe, but he just feels tiny, on account of being so light. Animated Lockdown gets tossed about as some kind of proof that people are insane for thinking the toys are smaller now, but Lockdown had a pretty large vehicle mode as well.

I am actually glad to say no FOC has made it here yet. In fact no new line has hit the shelves around here at all, with the exception of one Walmart that put the air arachnid line out, which did not last long, even the BB's. The size of these guys do suck for the price being paid. I've cut back to just buying the MP line now. I just don't like what Hasbro is doing anymore.......
