Its kind of like Basic Instinct, but not in a good way...

Leave it to Dead Metal to have the word 'Pronz' in his signature.

From what little I can remember from when I was a kid, Pneumonia is basically fluid on the lungs. My Grandad had it also before he passed away. At the risk of sounding morbid, the link below explains it much better than I ever could.

Hope that helps.

I know that, but how does it even get into your lungs?

I am a nurse, so here's what you need to know.
Pneumonia is a bluid up of fluid in the lungs, caused by either bacterial infection, viral infection, or intrusion of foreign substance into the lungs (called aspiration pneumonia). The fluid can cause significant pain, but can also manifest in several other ways including shortness of breath, lower than normal pulse oximetry readings, and flu like symptoms. Onset can be sudden (usually the case with viral) or gradual (usually with bacterial). Fever depends on the type of infection. Outside of aspiration pneumonia, most forms are caused by exposure to viral or bacterial agents via what would be called normal everyday contact. It is contagious in most forms via droplet (sneezing or caoughing) or inhalation of contaminating substance. It is a serious illness as it can permanently decrease lung capacity if not treated. It can also cause pulmonary embolisms (clots in the lungs that block blood flow, leading to rupture). If you remember, Jim Henson died at age 42 due to pneumonia. THere is a vaccine available for viral pneumonia. Bacterial pneumonia is treated by antibiotics, either oral or IV, depending on severity.
