Let's talk Beast Wars (part 3)

Postby Slumble B » Mon Aug 20, 2007 8:37 pm

The mail brought me the best present of all today - my Takara 10th Anniversary Rhinox - straight from BBTS.

As always Takara has wonderful packaging, Rhinox's box is a work of art in itself.

Rhinox's beast mode is top notch and flawless. Hell, its tons better than Primal's. Primal's head of range motion in beast mode is nill, so Rhinox being able to look up straight ahead is a plus.

Onto the transformation. It's a bit more difficult than Primal's which is great because I was looking for more a challenge in him. I absolutely adore how all of the BW toy's weapons fit right inside their beast mode.

Rhinox's bot mode is pretty damn good. There are more pros than cons defintely. Without a doubt, Rhinox is chock full of detail, right down to the gold trim on his face. It was also completely awesome that his chain gun (!!!) was included and not only did it look great, but it spins!!! His sword was a nice touch too but I don't remember him ever using it in the show (although recently I've only watched season 2).

However, there are some cons. First off, his mask hinders his range of motion and is fairly ugly, but easily removable. Next - the arm and back armor limits his posability and gets in the way a bit. You can still pose him fine, it just takes a minute to move around his armor.

So all and all this Rhinox should be on everyone's Maximal team. His beast mode is better than Primal's, but I don't think anyone's bot mode will be better than Primals. I reccomend Rhinox to all BW fans.

And.......thanks to zemp, I have a loose, but complete Rattrap coming to me for only $26. Good lookin' out bro! Rattrap should be here within the next couple weeks depending on how soon I get the money order out.

Soooo let's start talking Beast Wars again!

(Sorry about the crappy cell phone pics.)

I still need to get a Rhinox to complete my BW season 1 characters. Are you getting the original Rattrap or the TM version? I found a lose complete RT at my comic shop for 50 cents, he was in the bottom of a bin covered up with Power Rangers

Edit: You already answered my question lol Congrats!

I'm very excited to get him and its all thanks to my best bro zemps.

Maaaan, awesome luck with the Rattrap. It figures he would be hiding in the bottom of the bin, lol.

Yeah when you do decide to purchase Rhinox, make sure you get the Takara 10th version because of show accuracy and all around bad ass-ness. You won't be disapointed.

Any pics bro? I love seeing all of the old Beast Wars toys.

It is very hard to find a complete Silverbolt for that price. I'm looking for a MOC one and I can't find one for less than $30!

Yeah my Primal is a deluxe. He is the Takara 10th Anniversary version. The best version I have seen.

That Rhinox looks nice, too bad I can't afford getting japanese items, and can't really order online either. I'm not a massive beast fan like some of you here. (I'm a weird case who happens to like both vehicle and beastformers...I wonder if that is even "allowed") but it would be nice to have the whole BW show cast.

Of the few figures I do have, there are some excellent ones, though. :D TM Megatron, Rampage and Depth Charge are all very good figures, so go get them if you have a chance!

It is very allowed to like both beastformers and transformers. I think BW fans are more open to like TFs then the other way around, IMO.

Well if you ever do buy Beast Wars toys online make sure to get the Takara reissues. The plastic is more durable, the detail is greater, and everything is more show accurate. They are a real joy to own. I'm thinking about ordering Cheetor or Tigatron today.

Do you have any pics of your collection? I hope to get all three of them soon, although I have not watched any episodes with Depth Charge.

The "allowed" -thing was a little joke, because it sometimes seems that some people think one has to pick just one series to like, and hate the rest

I think I have some not-so-stellar photos I took on the day I got Depth Charge and Megatron, no pics of whole collection though, I have them in various places so photographing is a bit difficult. (well...not difficult but I'm too lazy, I guess). Lack of good shelf-space, so I have them standing on wherever I happen to have some room

I love the beast wars reissue toys from Takara Tomy, my favorite one bing the remolded and recolored Robot masers primal toy! he's the right size and gets the job done quite nicely in terms of style. I like Rhinox too, he's a favorite of mine. I need to acquire the Takara reissue Tigertron, I'll almost have everyone they released. That Bolfang is hard to get, and he wasn't even in the Bast wars series. I wonder if Takara Tomy will continue to release these gems and will go into the transmetals and finally release another Optimal Optimus??

I really hope Takara does continue reissuring the older Beast Wars toys because of quality of their products in un-matched, especially their Beast Wars line. Takara's BW blow Hasbro's BW right out of the water. No match, not even a fair fight.

I have been looking at Robot Masters Primal, Megatron, and Leo Prime, but I cannot find either for a good price. Even tho my Primal looks very very simliar to the RM version, I still would like to have it just because.

I really want Tigatron for some reason. I wasn't a big fan of his character on the show (well he really hasn't been in season 2 of which the own the DVD to), but his bot mode color scheme is so awesome. I'm stil debating between him and Cheetor as my next buy.

What others do you have Maximal Primal?

I picked up with the "allowed" joke and was planning to run with it but I realized that with some collectors it is very true. I am very focused when it comes to collecting, so I have days and weeks where I jump back and forth from being very dedicated to Beast Warst to TFs.

Bro, share whatever pics you have. As you can see mine aren't works of art either and were taken in my kitchen because it has the best light. Currently the top of my dresser acts at my shelf, so your not the only one with limited shelf space.

So far my Maximal team is coming together nicely with my Leader in Primal, my 2nd in Command in Rhinox, and my Field Leader/Spy in my Rattrap (coming very soon).

Here's the question to you all: Who should be next?

Heheh, I just got back too. My trip was sucessful. Never before have I seen old Beast wars figures on store shelves and they were mine. It was amazing just to look at them in person than in real life. TM Cheetor, Takara Dinobot and Blackarachnia, and Dinobot2 are now within my collection. It was well worth the 12 hour drive!

I'll post some pictures when I find the camera.

Now I'm thinking on getting TM Tarantulas, Rampage, Depthcharge, etc. Man, I'm sooo addicted.

The beast wars reissues are in my opinion the best representations that have come out thus far for the series.. there is extensive comparison images noted in the gallery section of this site, what is wonderful about the Takara versions is that not only are the packages a work of art, but the DVD is non regional, so if you can get a player that can play it, you can watch it in Japanese..I'm more interested in the US version, but either way, its a pretty novel experience.

The Takara 10th anniversary reissues are much better then the Hasbro releases, the paint applications and even sculpted remolded parts improve the actual bots and make them even that much more accurate to the cartoon as possible.

Now I don't have the Beast Wars reborn figures form Takara, in the box set, but I do own the Toys R US version from Hasbro which you can still order online for a mere 40.00, and in my opinion there really isn't a difference with that release, but the little released Beast wars figures are different. So my advice is go for the Takara versions if you can. If not you can always find them cheap on eBay, Hasbro and Toys R US online stores and even Amazon.com.

I own 1 through 9 and the Toys R US set so far.
Image

I think once I get some time this afternoon I'll post some images of my collection, which is MISB.. I did however get the Robot Masters Lio Convoy so that I could fit him into the mix, I mean he's just perfect for the Beast Wars reissues sizes! If they can do it with Megatron and Optimus Primal, then they should incorporate him down the line as well, and they should do a special Robot Masters Mold of Big convoy so that his scale could fit into the reissue line as well. I just hope they go all out at Takara and release them all the way up to Transmetals and Reproduce Optimal Optimus and TM2 Megatron!! this time they can fix Optimal's head to be a little larger, and make Megatron's Dragon Arm alot bigger and more proportionate with some added articulation and support in the leg regions.

That Rhinox is very nice! Man I don't know which Takara ones to get now lol, I was only planning to get some of my favs but I keep wanting more! I got Silverbolt (missing 1 missile) and Quickstrike in the mail yesterday myself (Silverbolt is my favourite character). I'm also waiting for my TM Rattrap from BBTS.

The next one I want is probably TM1 Cheetor, looks very cool from the pics...

Man I love Beast Wars figures. The only TF series that I bought every figure for. Well, just the US release figures but I made it my mission back in the day to get them all. When I firts got Rhinox I thought the beast kibble was just way too much, so I removed a lot of it at the ball joints to skinny him down just a tad. But contrarily, with it on and the sword in his hand and the beast face mask spread open on his head, I think he looks kind of like a fully armored samurai. Silverbolt's another great figure, but I always thought his arms were scaled a tad small, and his legs had trouble staying together at the hips in robot mode-the cod peice was quick to unlock them together. All in all though, an awesome series of toys and an awesome show. Great figures all around whether they were in the show or not. I was always so impressed that they were able to make gestalts too. Not great gestalts, but gestalts none the less.
