If you have seen any of the Ultra Magnus kit bashes and such, then you know, for a fan, it's difficult to produce. With the recent hoax of the possible Hasbro slipping by us a US retail release of Ultra Magnus and such, I thought it was high time to atleast address this issue.

A complete Ultra Magnus, for me is one of the most anticipated Masterpiece figures from the Masterpiece line up. I for one was hoping Hasbro decided to recolor the 20th anniversary Prime and decided to sneak in a well engineered trailer into the mix.. but that's just wishful thinking on my part...


however if they do it, then they should at least consider the guide lines set forth by the experts over at http://www.iaconcity.com

If your gonna do it, then the chest shield should give him form and his body should look like a body and not a brick. He should have articulation enough to be able to do this pose:



And his body should have enough support to sustain this:


I love the realism this guy puts into his 3D models, and even shows how the armor can buckle the feet inside, which is another issue the toy manufacturers should look at in designing a trailer for him..

I love how the feet have the back trailer wheels in the armor, its really a cool feature that I think the toy would benefit from...from the looks of it, the trailer feet encase the MP-02 Magnus feet, and the upper body is encased in a chest box, which I hope if they include this in the actual toy someday will have some layers to allow for movement...



Now here is a Question, would you want his chest to be made of Glossy chromium type red and blue plastic like the Transmetals?

Well let us all hope that if they do a Masterpiece Ultra Magnus and they finally release him, whether it be Takara Tomy or Hasbro, let's at least hope they do him correct, and with out him ending up like a Brick!

yeah, I see your point on that..

too flashy and the whole Transmetal thing was a good explanation, so its not the same for G-1. But I can't wait to see if they do a Movie version of him for the sequel. I would love to see this toy made though, it would be very much sought after, and really just needs a trailer done up, instead of a whole new figure...

Yarr, thar be a prize worth going to worlds end fer. Not too much work needed, just a trailer over the existing one. I'm surprised the master craftsmen in the lands of JustitToys haven't crafted such a thing. Truly magnificant.

That's actually a really cool looking concept for an MP Magnus, one I'd almost buy... I'm not a Magnus fan, but if they ever made that... I dunno, it would be a difficult choice.

Ultra Magnus always has been and always we be my favourite Transformer ever and the fact we haven't had many original UM toys is, to me, an insult from Hasbro. Its alright to repaint molds to make some minor characters, but UM is a major char. And there is no better example of this that in the Masterpiece colllection.

I personally only have MP Prime. However if MP Magnus was to be given that example as a trailer then i would definately buy the rest of the range.

I'll second that. I'm not even much of a Magnus fan, but off of mere concept alone, this would be way too cool to pass up.

As one of the biggest UMagnus fans, this would be a dream come true. My idea of the perfect MP Ultra Magnus is the one the one that look like the cartoon. That is:
1 - In alt.mode, his missile launcher should be on the side of the trailer as oppose on the front like the toy.
2 - Also in alt.mode, the front bumper should be red, not white.
3 - In robot mode, the chest shield should be just a simple rectangle bar not like a space ship as seen in the toy.
4 - For gimmick, I want to see the chest panel be opened out where the Matrix can be stored like TFTM.
5 - Of course multiple articulations.

Now that would be my dream MP Magnus. *dream on*

Looks as though he has made a model based off MP02 that might actually be able to do a legitimate, and realistic (to the toy) transformation. Thats no easy feat!

Personally I would love a proper Ultra Magnus with his armour/trailer, but it is so much cheaper and easier for Hasbro/Takara to pump out white Prime's, so I cannot see why they would stop.

I have a question. WHen Masterpiece prime was releassed here in the states he was retailed between $59.99 and $69.99 (then a month later clearenced everywhere). Why at walmart, one of the cheapest stores around, and also MP Prime was $59.99 there, twice-(first release and DVD edition) would MP-02 magnus be sold at a higher price? Unless, he comes with something a little extra?.

I am not saying its a transformable trailer, but if it is MP-02, that is kinda pricey for magnus, at walmart.

not sure about that, I never really grew up in the G-1 era, but as I delve deeper into the mythos, i see that ultra Magnus is definitely an asthetic pleaser. This 3D modeler is exceptional in his work, and I really like the way he shows how the Masterpiece toy could really be done. Kudos to you dude! Posts like these are what has promted me to order a Masterpiece Optimus Prime with Trailer from ebay, and whoa is that a pricey endeavor!! Damn you Skywarp-2 and your kick ass posts!! your killing me wallet!

The chest would have to open or else I would hate it.

If someone did make armor for Magnus it'd have to be the kind that wraps around the main figure, like armor for RiD Prime, on account that Magnus's upper body can't be part way transformed like the G1 figure.

Well there is a way to get some form of trailer/armour for your masterpiece Ultra Magnus. It looks pretty spiffy, but costs far to much. Not much to be expected for just a random kitbasher.

I would love to see a smaller MP UM made with trailer armor, that was then modded with a different trailer armor to become MM.

If you look at the CGI that was done on the 1st page, it shows an Ultra Magnus thats almost the same height as the MP Ultra Magnus, I seem to remember in the TF movie that UM was considerably taller then Prime. I don't think that Prime should be taller then every transformer, then where would the heavy and big battle guys be? like for instance, there is a lot of heavy bigger guys in Beast Wars compared to Optimus Primal.

this bot would do as a possible reference for them to create an Master Piece Ultra Magnus like Bonger suggests. But with the 20th anniversary mold already out, the chances of a totally redone version IMO would be slim to none.

Sky/Jetfire was certainly bigger than Prime and Megs, as was Omega Supreme -- I'll never argue against that. UM OTOH was simply bulkier than Optimus, not taller e.g. watch the Prime death scene in the animated Movie (where he gives the Matrix to Magnus) and then çome back to me.

Your a muppet. How can you tell the height between them in that scene? ONE OF THEM IS LAYING DOWN ON A BED! And Magnus is bending over most of the time. Trust me! UM is bigger than prime in everyway.

Besides, you can't judge characters sizes by the animation because back then the animators didn't give a ****. In episode 9 Bumblebee is fighting Ravage and they are the same size. Then in Megatrons Master Plan Ravage is only a little bigger than a human.

I'll conclude with the fact that in Alt mode, Prime and Magnus are the same size with trailers. However in robot mode Prime doesn't combine with his trailer...where as UM does! Therefore making him bigger by far.
