Like the title says.
I stopped buying comics when DW went under, because at first I thought IDW was horrible. I never read anything from them, and now I think I missed out on some good stuff. Most outstanding is "Maximum Dinobots" because they're my favorite Autobot characters and Scorponok and Shockwave are my favorite comic Decepticons. I've heard some good things about this series.
I have 1 question: does it have a definite ending?

It has been a while since I read it, but here I go:
This series was meant to be a closer for most of Furman's work on IDW. So you might actually have more questions popping on up you. For the most part it is split between Grimlock and Sunstreak/Hunter, and the problems both of them faced during Furman's run. For Grimlock it forces him to take a long hard look at the consequences of his style of leadership, and how far he is willing to go in his actions. For Sunstreaker, it is about him literally trying to get his head back (He's been turn into a headmaster against his will), and stopping all of the clones of him that are working for Scorponock.
It does have a ending for Grimlock, and Sunstreaker, but Sunstreaker's story here is just a beginning for his role in AHM.
Edit: I liked it a lot. Nick Roche is handled all the art for it, and it is jammed pack with action as well as pivotal moments for the two leads. If I were to make a recommendation, Last Stand of the Wreckers. It is sort of a stand alone story, the only real tie-in needed for it is Spotlight Kup, and that's not really needed. It does in a indirect fashion tie-in into AHM, but you don't need to read AHM to get it. If anything you can PM me and i can give a short set up for it. Also, LSoW does sort of continue Furman's work, and has many references to the original Marvel UK comic (I know you read the US run, but I'm not sure if you read the UK run).

Re: Maximum Dinobots TPB. Yay or nay?
It took me some time to warm to IDW's Transformers, though I read everything as it came out. I grew up on Marvel and absolutely loved what Dreamwave did with G1 so another reboot that dramatically changed a lot of characters irked me for quite a while.
I have come around and Maximum Dinobots is definitely one of my favourite books. I loved the Monstorbots actually giving the Dinobots pause for concern and I've always been a fan of Scorponok and Furman's Dinobots.
I'm also a great fan of James Raiz' artwork. He done the early Armada comics.
As someone long uncertain about IDW's TF's, I have to say Maximum Dinobots is a very enjoyable read. Don't know if I'm much help because I'm one of the minority that enjoyed Megatron:Origin, the Beast Wars books, All Hail Megatron and G1 Ongoing all of which fans usually complain about.

I liked Maximum Dinobots. Like all things IDW, you need to read the background story to get a feel for the characters.
I really liked this characterization of Skorponok. Some of the Dinobots were not anything like I expected but were not the main focus of the story.
I stopped with IDW after a few issues of AHM then just recently returned to read Last Stand of the Wreckers which I did not care for at all, but I liked Nick's Art. I am going back to NOT reading IDW Transformers till they reboot the G1 story.

I loved the DW Armada series. The first two trades were awesome. The art was really good as well as the colors. I also liked Megatron Origin, I didn't know people complained about it. I missed out on War Within.

Re: Maximum Dinobots TPB. Yay or nay?
its a tough one this as your not really getting whats on the package.
maximum dinobots is really about tying up the loose ends of furmans -ation series so if your looking for a dino centric story your going to be disapointed as its a while before the bots even get their personalites back and even then only slag and swoop get any real development which is annoying as thats pretty much been par the course for the last 20 years or so.
that said nick DOES portray them in a fresh and more realistic way. sludge looks HUGE and you definetly can believe the bloke can set off earth tremors with his feet

james riaz art is gorgeous too. its a kind of evoloution in his style but to date i put him up there with one of the few TF artists that can do decent humans AS WELL as decent TFs. something of a rarity in our medium.
still its a good story and it pisses all over whats going on in the ongoing right now in terms of action and pacing so you could do worst.
and hell its got a grimlock, shockwave, soundwave, scorponok fight with the monsterbots thrown in for good measure.
just dont go in epecting a real dino mini series and youll be ok.

It's the last good thing IDW did, so yeah, it's pretty essential.
