Seems you already know the reason. This is exactly why I detest Rule 34.

Oh, and scenes like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ce_VOlRTT_8

It also doesn't help that nearly all the Ultimate Caption Contest pictures chosen imply some sort of sexual inuendo or compromising pose. I never realized there were so many scenes that people could or would interpret the Transformers as being "lovers and not fighters" throughout the series.

I think they were chosen for that purpose. The purpose of having users spew very crude sex jokes. Picking out the innuendo in Transformers can be kinda funny...in the 'Dear lord I can never watch this the same way ever again. I want my childhood innocence back!' sorta way.

Yeah, but the Caption contest is just a load of fun, and I don't think any of the artists originally imagined people would be trying to strip a kids' show of its innocence by writing sex fics about the robots therein.

I agree, but for every 100 fans that laugh and say, "Sideswipe looks like he is trying to do more than just tackling Megatron. Ha, Ha." there is that one ass that is thinking, "Oh my, that looks hot." That's how those stories get written. Then to make matters worse Hasbro/Takara decided they needed to add a couple of female robots and you end up with guys that are attracted to that and write stories or draw pictures. Unfortunately, there's always somebody that doesn't know where to draw the line.

Yeah, well that's like we've got a couple of chicks here who keep going on about how "Sexy" Starscream is. I've pulled them up on it, and told them how completely retarded it is, and they get their panties in a sling, so they seem to think they're in the right, too. Regardless of how "Innocent" or "Cute" they think it is, it's freakin' annoying. One of them even gets all menstrual when you tell her Transformers is a kids' franchise.

Some people just can't take the truth. I honestly fail to see the sexual appeal in a screechy-voiced backstabber like Starscream, but that's just my opinion.

Good question! I am one of Starscream's fans, and have been for a long time....but, no matter how I try to rationalize it, I got nuthin! He's whiny, two-faced, a total back-stabber, but he's GOOD at all of the above! The question I ask most often (and has been answered 87934579389539785 times in jest), is why the HELL does Megatron put up with it?? If I was an uber-evil leader like him, I'd have blasted his seeker-ass back into the stone-age millenia ago...but, as it stands, I am not Megatron...

Well... maybe that's not true but it's a theory.

It's funnier when you know Starscream was female in France's version of the cartoon.

See, my problem here isn't so much the fact of Stasrcream's personality that attracts them. My problem starts with the fact he's a fictional character in a show for kids, and these freakin' weirdos are chicks in their early to mid 30s.

I thought Starscream was only female in the French version of the animated movie, not the TV cartoon itself.

If it disturbs you that much you should simply avoid them - leave the internet if need be. I for one won't tolerate you publicly ridiculing or persecuting them (or anyone else who is different from you) the way you say you have:

I've pulled them up on it, and told them how completely retarded it is...

That's not an appropriate way to interact with anyone on this board - in fact, it could well be interpreted as harassment. It isn't your place to 'pull them up' on anything and it is not at all appropriate for you to tell someone else here that what they like or dislike is "retarded". Save that sort of talk for the playground back home.

You want to disagree with them, fine. You want to even go so far as to say that you find the idea of romanticizing about a fictional character "disturbing" - I'd let that slide, but you aren't here to be the board's victorian 'morality' cop, and verbally enforce your standards and preferences upon others.

I don't get the sexist part. I fail to see which part could be interpreted as sexist.

Both of these are insults specifically targeting the individual's gender. Ergo: sexist.

Isn't you telling me I'M not the morality police or whatever somewhat hypocritical, seeing as that's what you're doing to me? I understand you're the HMW editor, or whatever, but the fact of the matter is, they take ofense to me, I take offense to them leaving the "I'm a major fan" turnpike and crossing onto the "OK, now you're just going overboard" freeway. I find it strange how I'm 20, and I'm questioning the maturity of people OLDER than me. That's all. I don't see the point. And I'm just gonna leaveit at this, just so we can get back on track and whatnot.

I don't care to argue with you who or what it is and is not acceptable for a person to be interested in, but there is one thing you need to be clear on if you're going to continue posting here:

Damolisher wrote:Isn't you telling me I'M not the morality police or whatever somewhat hypocritical, seeing as that's what you're doing to me?

I don't pretend to police your opinions, which is (if your earlier posts are to be believed) what you seem to be intent on doing to others. If you start/continue harassing and insulting other members however, that moves from the realm of 'opinion' to the realm of 'action', and then the moderators do step in, in order to keep the peace, and make sure this place remains civilized and enjoyable for most everyone.

Re: Megatron the Merciful

Bonecrusher27 wrote:Has it occurred to anyone that Megatron is actually a pretty forgiving guy? I'm rewatching Seasons 1 and 2, and there were so many times when he could have finished Starscream off but showed him mercy. He's been criticised, mocked, punched, kicked, fired at by Starscream, any of which outrage would have brought about lethal response from a madman like Galvatron. At times the relationship seems almost father-son, with bantering and sharing of triumphs. Lots of chiding as well. He just keeps forgiving Starscream all his sins.

In fact I find Megatron a much more interesting character than Galvatron. Galvatron was just a psychotic madman that proved to be as much a danger to the Decepticons as to the Autobots. I just never developed a liking for the character like I did for Megatron. He also had of course in keeping with the climate of the time, a lot more humour.

I couldn't agree more, and I've been thinking about this myself. Really, when you get right down to it, I watched G1 because of megatron. Most people I knew stopped watching when Prime went, but it was Megatron I missed the most. Megatron always seemed to have reasons behind his actions, even working with the autobots on a few occassions if it served his needs. And you're right: he is merciful. It almost seems like Megatron follows an explicit code of military combat, including prisoner protocols, and though he is greedy, domineering, and ruthless, he's never corrupt or dishonorable. I actually didn't like the animated movie much, really because of the scene where Megs tricks Prime and basically sucker punches him to win their fight. That writing doesn't make sense to me, it's beneath Megatron. It's more what Starscream would do, pressing the point that Megatron does see himself in Starscream.

The really fascinating episodes are the ones where megatron expresses regret or weakness, the cosmic rust one for example. It's necessary to see that sort of thing, since it gives a greater sense of what cybertronians have in common as the conditions of their existence.

Anyway...

Doesn't bother me too much - to me it just highlights the difference between a warrior and a soldier. Warriors worry about honor - soldiers worry about winning.

Same thing that makes Ultimate Captain America so much different from Traditional Captain America.

Edit: It's also why Beast Wars Dinobot was such an intriguing paradox.

I could not agree more with your analysis on Megatron. I quit watching the shows after the movie killed off Megatron and brought in that psycho-con Galvatron. Megatron is a war-machine in the truest sense of the word!
