Damolisher wrote:Because of sad, sexless losers with a morbid sexual attraction to the thought of impossible sexual intercourse between fictional robots based off children's toys?
Swerve wrote:It also doesn't help that nearly all the Ultimate Caption Contest pictures chosen imply some sort of sexual inuendo or compromising pose. I never realized there were so many scenes that people could or would interpret the Transformers as being "lovers and not fighters" throughout the series.
Damolisher wrote:Yeah, but the Caption contest is just a load of fun, and I don't think any of the artists originally imagined people would be trying to strip a kids' show of its innocence by writing sex fics about the robots therein.
Damolisher wrote:Yeah, well that's like we've got a couple of chicks here who keep going on about how "Sexy" Starscream is. I've pulled them up on it, and told them how completely retarded it is, and they get their panties in a sling, so they seem to think they're in the right, too. Regardless of how "Innocent" or "Cute" they think it is, it's freakin' annoying. One of them even gets all menstrual when you tell her Transformers is a kids' franchise.

Some people just can't take the truth. I honestly fail to see the sexual appeal in a screechy-voiced backstabber like Starscream, but that's just my opinion.

Well... maybe that's not true but it's a theory.

Damolisher - For future reference, I'd be careful about using that judgmental tone in reference to other members of this board, and you would certainly do well to use fewer phrases which could be interpreted as sexist in nature.
Damolisher wrote:Sexist? And judgemental? Dude, seriously- It's disturbing. And silly.

I don't get the sexist part. I fail to see which part could be interpreted as sexist.

I'm rewatching Seasons 1 and 2, and there were so many times when he could have finished Starscream off but showed him mercy. He's been criticised, mocked, punched, kicked, fired at by Starscream, any of which outrage would have brought about lethal response from a madman like Galvatron. At times the relationship seems almost father-son, with bantering and sharing of triumphs. Lots of chiding as well. He just keeps forgiving Starscream all his sins.
In fact I find Megatron a much more interesting character than Galvatron. Galvatron was just a psychotic madman that proved to be as much a danger to the Decepticons as to the Autobots. I just never developed a liking for the character like I did for Megatron. He also had of course in keeping with the climate of the time, a lot more humour.

I couldn't agree more, and I've been thinking about this myself. Really, when you get right down to it, I watched G1 because of megatron. Most people I knew stopped watching when Prime went, but it was Megatron I missed the most. Megatron always seemed to have reasons behind his actions, even working with the autobots on a few occassions if it served his needs. And you're right: he is merciful. It almost seems like Megatron follows an explicit code of military combat, including prisoner protocols, and though he is greedy, domineering, and ruthless, he's never corrupt or dishonorable. I actually didn't like the animated movie much, really because of the scene where Megs tricks Prime and basically sucker punches him to win their fight. That writing doesn't make sense to me, it's beneath Megatron. It's more what Starscream would do, pressing the point that Megatron does see himself in Starscream.
The really fascinating episodes are the ones where megatron expresses regret or weakness, the cosmic rust one for example. It's necessary to see that sort of thing, since it gives a greater sense of what cybertronians have in common as the conditions of their existence.
Anyway...
