Oh, a few notes about my hardcore fandom:
-Cliff Burton is God. Period.
-Jason Newsted sucks. Period.
-I like St. Anger. Really.
-Dave Mustaine didn't happen. Period.

hellkitty wrote:I beg to differ: Jason Newsted, technically, is miles-better than Clif ever was. Listen to some old Flotsam and Jetsam--the only decent thing in those songs is his bass work. (And look at what happened to F&J after he left--crash and burn!) Burton was competent, nothing more. Now, we can argue that since joining Metallica, Jason hasn't really brought the same power, but...that's not the same as saying he *sucks* as a bassist. He's quite good on a technical, studio-album level. I've not been impressed with him live, but I never saw Burton live, either so I really can't compare.
Mind you, I'm old-school (comes with being old): I own an original of Ride the Lightning, which is and will always be, in my mind, the best Metallica album ever. Though Garage Days is a close second...tied with Puppets, I think. Load and Reload turned me the hell off Metallica (*cough cough**sellouts*) as any time a metal band does power ballads, I'm OUT. Death Magnetic has failed to impress. (And, the image on the CD cover looks a bit too much like lady-parts to me).
I LIKE Mustaine, but he was an awful fit for Metallica, I admit.
HK and let the hate begin....

granted my musical appreciation is quite random at times.
(still likes and justice for all best)

Still waiting for a second one...
Stormer wrote:Saw Metallica twice in concert - two of the best concerts I've ever seen. First one was for Black, the second they opened for Guns and Roses (who sucked in concert). Loved them from the beginning - my mom thought I was listening to devil music and that I was being brainwashed into being a devil worshipper. Good times!

I know! It IS funny! I think it was just too loud for her - that and she listened too much to Tipper Gore and her rediculous rhetoric. I think she's over it all now - I never did become a full fledged devil worshipper.
