Sabrblade wrote:Well, yesterday the first two episodes of the 2010 rebroadcast of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers aired on ABC Kids. I was interested in seeing how they'd air the old show, and was kinda wanting to see it since I missed it during its initial run in the early 90s (I saw a good amount of it via "Power Playback", "Best of Power Rangers", and "Power Ranger Generations" reruns, though).

When I watched them, however, I was disappointed to see that they added in new flashy special effects (in the style of those seen in "Transformers: Generation 2" and the DiC dub of "Sailor Moon") to these versions of the episodes. If the addition of these effects was revealed previously, then forgive me for I haven't been keeping up with Power Rangers news.

I didn't rewatch the originals to compare them exactly, but I'll mention what changes I did notice.
*SPOILERS WARNING*

Opening sequence changes:
  • The theme song remained unchanged song-wise, but the logo was the newer one seen on the toy packaging (yet all the ABC Kids ads use the old logo)
  • A flash aura effect was added to Rita's emergence from the dumpster
  • The whole opening sequence had added and altered special effects
General changes:
  • The "Today on Power Rangers" segment used the 2010 logo
  • New commercial bumpers added in
  • The morphing sequence had a brand new lightning bolt effect at its beginning
  • Some lame "Adam West 60s Batman"-style word effects were added in here and there
  • Each zord had its name and ranger stated at the bottom of the screen when they appeared
  • The Megazord's Tank Mode had its name appear as well (surprisingly the Megazord's name for its normal robot mode did not appear, go figure)
  • Images of each Ranger's Power Coin logo were added to each moment of them combining their weapons to form the Power Blaster.
  • The Power Blaster firing sequence repeated several shots when it fired.
  • The end credits started playing during the episode (like they did with RPM)
  • The final shot of the episode was frozen with more effects
  • Various other special effects were added in
In the first episode,
  • Rita's emergence had the above-mentioned change
  • A series of panels were inserted over the Earth to name and identify each of Rita's minions
  • The video frames "spun around" during Jason's Tornado kick
  • The picture "shook" during Bulk's fall shortly after
  • During the unmorphed Putty fight, some "60s Batman"-style word effects were added in
  • The Rangers's "dynamic pose" had a sunrise background added to it
  • (Not sure if this is new, but) a rain cloud and falling rain were put over where the Putties appear next to Goldar
  • The individual poses of each Ranger had auras and a unique background added to each of them (Red - circular stripes and some white "fuzz"; Black - circular stripes and some white "patches"; Blue - circular stripes and two shooting stars; Yellow - huge red "patches" and several arrows; Pink - three hearts)
"Teleport to us five overbearing and over-emotional humans." "No! Not that! Not teenagers!" - 90s classic cheese.

Jason said "Hold on!" as if he knew they were gonna teleport. :?

And I'd forgotten just how much Jason sounds like the English dub version of Takuya from Digimon Frontier (or maybe that should be the other way around, considering which came first).

In episode 2,
  • Jason's "crotch fall" on Billy had a "Bonk!" placed over it (censorship?)
  • The swinging of the two boys had a "Woosh" added to it
  • A lightning bolt background was added to Skull's line "You sayin' that Bulk can't do it?" to Jason
  • The screen shook on Bulk's two failed attempts to climb the rope
  • A blue border was added to Rita's telescope circle showing what she was going to have her monster do to the Rangers (actually, I think this whole scene might've been new, as it seemed out of place and acted like/was used as a commercial bumper)
  • (Again, not sure if this is new, but) the view from the mini space shuttle had the words "Find Power Rangers" on it
  • More 60s Batman effects during the unmorphed Putty fight
  • A "Zzzzing" was added to the "human chain" spin
  • Colored streaks were added to each Ranger's quick poses and their final five-Ranger pose
  • Streaks and a background were added to the Blade Blaster preparation
"This is morphinonemal." - Oh, so it was Kimberly who coined that odd word.

"Oh. Welcome homeboys; homegirls. What brings you to the hood?" - Alpha 5 and 80s street slang do NOT mix.

Billy's first scream at the cliff sounded so fake.
*END OF SPOILERS*

Overall, it was nice to see the classic characters back on the air, but all the changes were a bit distracting.

Yeah.. I watched some of it myself and can say I'm pretty disappointed.. I actually got to watch the power rangers when it was on every Saturday morning up until the end of it and the new series started being aired. Good times I gotta say. I'll also say this; let the damn franchise rest in peace damn it!! for the love of the gods Disney, stop rapping my childhood!!

 What?! I didn't know Haim Saban still had his own company after Disney bought Saban Entertainment from him. That's new to me.

This should prove to be an interesting trun of events once the 2010 rebroadcast of MMPR is over.

I wonder if it means that any further Super Sentai adaptations beyond Go-Onger could be in store.

Hey, they're only airing what Saban originally made. It the same show, there's just a whole bunch of flashy stuff and comic book features added in now.

I really hop it's a direct sequel to RPM. RPM was more awesome than a Power Rangers series is legally allowed to be.

It wont be, If there is a new series it will be an adaptation of Shinkenger which is basically Samurai Rangers. I can't see them being able to do it either since it is based completely around Japanese culture so it's going to be hard to adapt it for an american audience. That is of course if there is going to be a new power rangers series.

Maybe they coudl skip Shinkenger and go straight to adapting Goseiger.

Shinkenger and Goseiger would both be difficult to adapt. Shinkenger with the deep Japaanese themes and an adaptation of Goseiger would be Power Rangers meets Yu-Gi-Oh. Everything is doen with a card game. The Goseiger sentai sucks.

Kamen Rider Ryuki dealt a lot with cards and monsters, yet it was adapted into Dragon Knight. What's to stop them from doing the same with Goseiger?

I never said it would stop them. I just said the adaptation might be difficult. I just think it would turn into PR meets Yu-Gi-Oh.

Due to my work schedule, I wasn't able to do this passed week's review sooner, so this one's little belated.

Two weekends ago, reruns of episodes 5 and 6 played. Last Saturday, a rerun of episode 19 played, followed by episode 20, the fourth part of the Evil Green Ranger miniseries!

Let us begin to view the fourth part of the evil Green Ranger miniseries! This is "Green With Evil, Part IV - Eclipsing Megazord".

In episode 20:
  • The previously-added effects to Scorpina's entrance last episode were added to the pre-episode recap segment in this one.
  • A comic-type panel and the words "POWER FAIL" were added the Rangers' failure to morph.
  • A window background with a Chinese dragon was added to Rita's explanation of what she'll do to defeat the Megazord.
  • A dim background with the words "POWER RANGERS" was added to the Rangers' battle stance right after they morph.
  • A red comic panel-type background and a yellow aura were placed on Scorpina's battle pose as she entered the fight.
  • Four smacking "BAM!"s with Japanese characters were added to the Rangers being hit by Scorpina's blade weapon.
  • A widescreen background and black lines were added to Rita yelling at the Rangers from her flying unicycle.
  • Black wavy lines were added to Rita calling Jason a fool.
  • A purple sky with black sun rays were added to Rita saying "It's time now to complete my evil plan."
  • A vertical white "Slice" was added to Goldar's sword coming down on the beach.
  • A comic panel-type background was added to the Megazord catching the bus.
  • Several comic panel-type backgrounds were added to Scorpina becoming the Scorpion Monster.
  • A comic panel-type background was added to the Green Ranger leaping into battle against the Megazord.
  • The word "OUTNUMbEREd!" (spelled with those caps) was palaced over the Megazord being surrounded by the three enemies.
  • The word "DEFEATED!" was paced over the Megazord being blasted by the combined attack of Goldar and the Green Ranger.
  • For some unknown reason, a commercial bumper played after the commercial break was already over and the show was back on.

Scorpina actually seems like a competent and capable warrior, easily wiping the floor with the Rangers.

The editing of Bulk and Skull inside the bus being grabbed by Goldar wasn't executed quite good. Before they are grabbed, they're driving through what looks to be a green grassy park area. But when Goldar grabs the bus in the Zyuranger footage, its by the sea. And Bulk said that they were driving away from Goldar, while the angle at which Goldar grabs the bus indicated that it was driving towards him.

When the Green Ranger shuts down Alpha, Zordon notices him and tries to tell Alpha to watch out behind him. But afterwards, Zordon is like "Alpha, is that you? What is happening?" as though he never saw the Green Ranger just a few minutes ago.

Instead of simply pushing buttons to send Zordon away, why didn't the Green Ranger just trash the Command Center controls again like he did last time? Doing so had a similar effect to what he was trying to do this time, and it would have done more damage to the Rangers' powers and systems.

Okay, even if the bus was caught by the Megazord, there's no way Bulk and Skull would have been uninjured in the fall and the sudden catch.

How did Rita and Goldar know that the Green Ranger had been trapped in a force field by Alpha? Are they omnipotent or something?

Another belated review. :-|

Two weekends ago, reruns of episodes 7 and 8 played. Last Saturday, a rerun of episode 20 played, followed by episode 21, the fifth and final part of the Evil Green Ranger miniseries!

The time has come. It all comes down to this. And now, the conclusion to the evil Green Ranger miniseries. This is "Green With Evil, Part V - Breaking the Spell".

In episode 21:
  • Another pointless "Dance Off" segment (this time, between Alpha and Zack) was added right before the first commercial break. Obviously, Alpha lost.
  • Because that segment was added, the commercial bumper that was supposed to lead into the break was played after the break.
  • (Not sure if this is new, but) a "fantasy cloud" effect was added to Bulk about to picture himself and Skull on TV.
  • Two comic panel-type backgrounds were added to the Dragonzord's emergence from the sea.
  • A green comic panel-type background was added to the Green Ranger first yelling "Dragonzord!"
  • Each Zord's identification logos appeared when they each made their return to the surface.
  • Another comic panel-type background was added to the Tyrannosaurus Zord about to engage the Dragonzord.
  • The picture was frozen as a red background was added to the Tyrannosaurus Zord leaping into the air.
  • The same sunshine background from the opening credits was used for the Megazord's midtransformation from Tank Mode to Battle Mode again.
  • A large black "VICTORY" was placed over the Megazord picking up the Dragonzord over its head.
  • Red and Green aura spheres were added to the Red and Green Rangers about to engage each other.
  • A gain, the new commercial bumper played after the break had ended. But this one seemed more like a "We're back" type of a bumper, as it led into the episode instead of out of it.
  • A green aura sphere, eleven S's (or one SSSSSSSSSSS), and a red "BOOM!" were all added to the Green Ranger's Earth attack with the Sword of Darkness on the Red Ranger.
  • A glowing yellow ring with a green and red aura glow was placed over Jason's and Tommy's handshake.
  • The single power coin logo featuring all five main Dinozords was added to the pose of the sixth rangers after morphing.
  • A background featuring each of the Rangers respective colors and zords were added to each and every pose made by the Rangers immediately after the previous edit. Though, the pose with just the Red and green Rangers had a black background with no zord, and the final pose with all six had the picture pushed upward with the 2010 series logo insert beneath and in front of it. So, a total of eight backgrounds were all crammed into 23 seconds of footage!
  • Dragonzord Battle Mode was given its own name logo like the other individual zords do. Only this one referred to it as "Dragonzord Fighting Mode". This is not entirely incorrect, as this form is called "Fighting Mode" by Zordon in this episode, but later episodes refer to it as "Battle Mode" more often. And, again, The Dragonzord's Battle Mode gets this edit, but still not the Megazord's Battle Mode?

The footage of Rita on TV is inside her palace. How did the Angel Grove news camera crews get that footage?

Also, the people at the Juice Bar are watching Goldar destroy their city without the slightest bit of concern for their own safety. :???:

Okay, evil Tommy speaking all "ominous" to Kimberly just cracks me up.

In the shots of the Dragonzord with the Green Ranger riding on it, it is too obvious to notice that some kind of model figure of the Green Ranger is used for the long shots of the costumed Dragonzord.

When Kim tells the guys about how Tommy knew who they were and how he's out to get them, they deduce that Rita has him under a spell. This would be alright... except for the fact that they made the very same deduction at the beginning of this same episode! Do these people have short-term memory problems or something?!! :BANG_HEAD:

Before, everyone was talking about how the zords were all destroyed in the previous episode, yet Alpha just said that they were instead "taken away".

Wait. Why is the Tyrannosaurus Zord the only one who gets to face the Dragonzord as an individual zord? All five have previously faced enemies before combining in the past. So, why are they left out of the pre-combination brawl this time?

What? The Megazord just pulled out its Power Sword without summoning it?

When Jason yells, "Give it up, Tommy!" Tommy responds with a "No way!" This line of dialogue was most certainly not spoken by Jason David Frank.

Why would Jason announce to Tommy his plan to destroy the Sword of Darkness? He just gave away his methods to his opponent!

The Green Ranger refers to Rita as his "Queen". Other times he calls her his "Empress". Which is it?

The switch from Zyuranger footage to America footage where Jason destroys the Sword of Darkness is a little too noticeable, as the scenery suddenly changes from a dark rocky terrain to a light sandy area (not to mention the Green Ranger's shield suddenly being made of cloth instead of the harder material seen in the Zyuranger footage).

Zack called the Sword of Darkness the "Power Sword".

As epic as this episode was, there were so many confusing bits and/or mistakes made in it.

Just happened to catch what I think was an episode of the series. It was one during the original green Ranger arc. The episode was a classic but the added effects and visuals were utterly pointless and out of place. Still, nostalgia kept me watching at least for that episode.

Like several others, this thread has renewed my interest in Power Rangers. Also like several others I decided to give RPM a whirl(thanks to youtube). Overall....

-It's not bad. The characters were pretty well developed, the story was good, and the cliffhangers and continuing plot lines did make me want to keep watching. But...

-Way too much action, or at least fluff action scenes. Sounds like an odd complaint, but when you see the Rangers engaging the Grinders for the eighteenth time and kicking their butts, it kind of loses it's impact. Plus, some of these segments went on for five or more minutes at a time, and like I said, with little to no drama built up, got kinda stale. However, this could be attributed to watching the series over the course of a week.

-The fight scenes were well choreographed though, but I must bring up one thing: early in the series(somewhere around episode 9), there was an opening fight where the Rangers saved a mother and her child. Fair enough, except they start fighting Grinders with the stroller THAT THE BABY WAS STILL IN!! Obviously the kid was fine, but if it really walked the line for me. That was a pretty dumb moment.

-Shifter and...whatever the other guy was named were decent, but didn't do a whole lot until near the end of the series. Tenaya was a good recurring villainess, and while her revelation as Dillon’s sister wasn't the biggest shocker, I didn't figure it out until a few episodes before. Venjix made for a good big bad too, and it was cool that he got several bodies throughout the series. That phone cord beard though... Kilobyte was just there though. Pretty decent, but if he’d been left out the story probably wouldn’t have gone any different.

-The "Monster of the Week" baddies were downright forgettable. Barely any of them talked, and only a few of them actually had relevance to moving that week’s plot along. The names were equally forgettable. Saw-Bot, Toxic-Bot…heck I can’t think of any others. Couple of them did feel like Mega Man villains though, so that’s a plus. They should made a few more of them like that satellite dish guy that made Dillon into a hybrid. He was killed off way too soon, though keeping him in a flashback later on was a good nod of continuity.

-The Zords didn’t get enough screen time. Yeah they’re kind of ugly and weird looking, but they do have a certain charm. However, they were barely ever focused on, and most of the fight scenes were pretty short. Heck, one episode the monster grew, the Zords assembled, shot their winning move, and killed the monster before he even moved. What was the point of even making him grow then?

-To end this short review on a high note, I enjoyed the humor, and the developing relationships. They weren’t forced on us, and most of them felt natural. Ziggy in particular I found to be enjoyable, and every so often they’d jab at Power Rangers in general, like when Dr. K. was answering they’re questions, “Why is there an explosion behind us every time we morph?”. Good stuff, good stuff :).

So overall, a pretty ok series. I think next I’ll check into Wild Force.

Duke of Luns wrote:-The "Monster of the Week" baddies were downright forgettable.

From what I've heard (I haven't seen the Sentai counterpart) this is for the better. MotW in Go-onger would sing and dance before and perhaps during a fight.

TVTropes knows more about it than I do:

While the show likely didn't have the budget to digitally recolor Go-Onger's silly looking zords, they do attempt to distract from the silly looking appliance-based monsters by having them not talk, but instead just be snarling beasts. Only a handful of MOTWs have had any lines, the rest either growled or made electronic noises. This required quite a bit of editing, as the Go-Onger monsters were extremely talkative and would often do a short monologue (or even a song!) before they exploded; in RPM, they simply cut straight from the finisher to the fall n' kaboom. As for the zords, whenever they have to talk, they just have the rangers inside talking instead.

-This has led to some extremely short zord battles; some Go-Onger battles have over half the fight being the monster dancing, delivering monologues or comically running around. Edit that out and it's not much more than "form the megazord and do the finisher."

After weeks and weeks of constant reruns after reruns, two new episodes have finally aired: episodes 22 and 23.

In episode 22:
  • A background with information about Squatt (strength, speed, intelligence) was added to Squatt spying on the Rangers near the beginning.
  • Several "Z"'s were added to Rita's snoring.
  • Several green "?"'s were added to Baboo showing Squatt the clay Shellshock.
  • A background with information about Shellshock(intelligence, strength, armor) was added to his debut.
  • sort of 'bubble' effect was added to the Putties teleporting near the Rangers to fight them.
  • A white "fOuL!" was added to Zack hitting a Putty with the basketball.
  • A white "PASS!" was added to Tommy hitting a Putty with the basketball.
  • A white "SCORE!" and a scoring sound effect were added Zack slam dunking the basketball into the hoop.
  • A hilarious green "EPIC FAIL!" was added to Bulk and Skull having to push the hot dog cart to pay back what they owe the vendor.
  • A background featuring the unified Power Coin symbol flashing red, black, blue, and pink was added to the Rangers jumping in to fight Shellshock.
  • A circling background with Zordon's face was added to the part where the Rangers land after the previously mentioned jump.
  • Two "BOOM"s and Japanese characters were added to the Red Ranger shooting at Shellshock, Squatt, and Baboo.
  • Green... 'I don't know what' was added to Tommy performing karate moves with a staff, making him look like a sorcerer or something.
  • The Saber-Toothed Tiger Power Coin was added to the Yellow Ranger getting the flowers.
  • A green background was added to the Dragonzord walking out of the sea.
Okay, Zack is a terrible rapper.

There was an awful lot of crotch-kicking in this Putty fight.

Is it just me, or did that hot dog vendor seem to come from nowhere?

You can see the Tokyo Tower in the background when the Rangers first fight Shellshock.

I think Goldar was voiced by Robert Axelrod instead of Kerrigan Mahan in this episode.

It just so happens that there exists a cure for something that never existed until now? And it happens to be on a mountain that's on Earth? AND Zordon happens to have sent Trini there off screen? Yeah, Zordon, that's a lot buy.

Shellshock, a giant turtle monster, calls the Power Rangers "teenage mutants". They just couldn't resist that pun, could they?

You can see the Pink Ranger moving ever-so-slightly inside the Command Center, when she should be frozen.

Zordon refers to the Saber-Toothed Tiger Zord as a male.

This is the first time since episode two that a giant monster was defeated without the need of the Megazord.

And it would seem that Billy is also a terrible rapper.

In episode 23:
  • A spider background was added to Zack freaking out over a spider crawling on his shoulder.
  • A brown "SLAM!" was added to Tommy smacking the spider off Zack's shoulder.
  • Some effect was added to the Putties' entrance. And it either had a rainbow effect to it, or there was a glare on the camera.
  • A big yellow "OOF!" was added to Trini hitting a Putty.
  • A red smacking "Snap!" was added to Jason striking a putty.
  • A strange square-like effect that dispersed into blue puffs, and a blue "YOINK!" were added to Billy spinning a Putty with his butterfly net.
  • Tons of Strange white, purple, yellow, and blue effects were added to Zack's dance-fighting.
  • Black spore-like effects were added to the kids dance-fighting without Zack right before they all pass out.
  • A stone wall background was added right after the Black Ranger morphed.
  • A zoomed-in look at the monster was added to his debut.
  • The same unified Power Coin background as the previous episode was added to the Rangers jumping into battle right after they morphed, only this time it flashed yellow instead of black.
  • A background featuring the Mastodon Power Coin and some glowing effects were added to the Black Ranger jumping up to shoot Goldar and the monster.
  • The word "DRAGONZORD!" was added to the Dragonzord walking to the battle. And it broke apart as the Dragonzord stepped through it as though the word were a physical object blocking its path.
  • A spider web background was added to Zack freaking out again over a spider on his shoulder.
Okay, Kim and Trini mention finding only three ants and a cockroach after Bulk and Skull tossed all the bugs around, and then they find the mouse that Billy's holding to be "cute". And then they go out gather bugs with their bare hands! If they're supposed to be the stereotypes that they represent, then they should be grossed out by such things (especially a cockroach).

Zack teaches a "Hip-Hop Kido" class? That's just... wow.

One of the kids in Zack's class looks kinda like one of the kids from the old Nickelodeon series You Can't Do That On Television.

Why didn't Rita make Goldar grow as well as the monster? That would have been to her advantage in today's Zord fight.

The Dragonzord Battle Mode was called the "MegaDragonzord" in this episode (and the title logo still called it "Dragonzord Fighting Mode").

When the Dragonzord Battle Mode was formed, why did the monster just stop using the same web attack it used before that gave all the zords a hard time earlier? That's why it lost. It wouldn't have lost so easily if it hadn't quit using the same web attack as before.

Wait, when did Trini and Billy get signatures for the petition to save the statue? Why would the main civilian plot of the episode be resolved off screen? Was Zack's class really that more important for the episode to focus on?

I just recently saw an episode yesterday, and I got to say, "Ouch." I remember watching the original episodes because they were on before the Batman Animated series. Truth be told I was kind of meh about the show in general. My only favorite parts were the Zord fights. I did, however, enjoyed the hell out of the Green Ranger episodes. I wanted to watch an episode to see how well the show aged, and compare it to the aging of original Transformers show but damn. This remastered crap is terrible. The quality of the film just god awful (think old school 8mm camera crica 1958). Whenever there's a new special effect on the screen, it completely turns me off due to the glaring difference in quality. I couldn't watch more than 5 minutes of it, but then again it was a Rita scene, and I think they were film else where.

I was watching a scene where this overgrown flying monkey from the Wizard of OZ and a blue fat hideous monster with the innocence of a child in its eyes made a monster while Rita was sleeping.

Can anyone tell me if the film quality of scenes with the Rangers in their civies holds up?

Also, the show in general?

And yeah, the mouse is a douche. I never liked the series all that much, but it's not like Transformers is perfect anyway. I give this remastered business a slap in you in face rating. Hopefully Saban can do a better job if they ever put to DVD. I figure standard DVD remastering should be really cheap by now.

Correct. The older-looking footage is the original Japanese Zyuranger footage. I don't know why it looks so much older, it aired only a year before MMPR.

I blame improper storage techniques, or maybe that's just what happens to film naturally. If I remember correctly the orginal Star Wars was in terrible shape when they dug up the original film prints. Thank god for the digital age.

This weekend, something weird happened.

Two new episodes debuted, but what's odd is that the first one that aired was episode 14 (which had been skipped earlier when episode 17 aired right after episode 13) and then episode 24. :???:

Well... let's see how they turned out.

In episode 14:
  • The Green Ranger opening credits (featuring both Jason David Frank's credit and the footage of the Dragonzord) was used in this episode, despite it taking place three episodes before the Green Ranger's debut.
  • A skull-and-crossbones was added to the tiny explosion in Baboo's experiment
  • A yellow "DANGER!" and a warning beacon sound effect were added to the Rangers' drinks being tainted by Baboo
  • (Not sure if this is new, but) Kim's and Billy's stomachs glowed after drinking the punked drinks and a red flash covers the screen for a second.
  • A flashy window background was added to Finster's description of the Terror Toad
  • Backgrounds of each Ranger's Power Coin were added to Red, Black, and Yellow Ranger's entrance to the battle.
  • (Not sure if this is new, but) the image of the Yellow Ranger's helmet on the Toad's stomach glowed yellow for a second after he swallowed her.
  • (Not sure if this is new, but) when the Red and Black Ranger's lasers bounced off the toad's belly, a large yellow bubble appeared during the laser bounce.
  • (Not sure if this is new, but) the image of the Black Ranger's helmet on the Toad's stomach glowed black for a second after he swallowed him.
  • (Not sure if this is new, but) Kim's and Billy's stomachs glowed again after drinking the Singing Squash juice and then their whole bodies glowed for a second.
  • (Not sure if this is new, but) the image of the Blue Ranger's helmet on the Toad's stomach glowed black for a second after he swallowed him.
  • An exploding green background was placed behind the five-Ranger pose
  • (Not sure if this is new, but) shockwaves were seen alongside the lightning bolts during the Terror Toad's defeat.
  • Man, it was really difficult to tell the new effects from the old ones in this episode. If most of the ones that I was unsure of are old effects, then I gotta say that this episode wasn't really all that different from the original version.
 Whoa! For once, not a single "Adam West Batman" sound effect word was added to the unmorphed Putty fight (well, aside from the "DANGER!" edit, but that wasn't really in the fight). That's a first.

Oh. My. Goodness. Punk Billy and Punk Kim are as lame as the bullies from the Garbage Pail Kids movie. and they first pick on (whose looks to be about their age) sounds like he still hasn't hit puberty yet.

Why is there always some ancient magical cure for every spell regardless of it how new or absurd it may be?

Hey, it's Barza again (or rather, Zordon's past self seen in Zyuranger footage).

The Terror Toad refers to the Yellow Ranger as "Bud", a male nickname (a possible hint at this Ranger's original gender?).

Because of how they aired this episode after episodes 17-21 and used the Green Ranger opening, new fans who had never seen the original run of this series may be confused as to why Zordon is sending out Alpha without bothering to contact Tommy for help (they may also be confused as to why Tommy is absent in this episode).

Why didn't Zordon tell Jason, Trini, and Zack about the Terror Toad's weak spot? That information could have been useful to them.

I think this is the first time that Baboo (not Goldar) has actually engaged the Rangers in battle.

Another rare instance of there being no Megazord fight in the episode.

In episode 24:
  • A green "KICK!" that switched to a green "DUCK!" was added to Tommy's kick to one Putty and ducking another
  • The unified Power Coin background that flashes each Ranger's color was added to the Rangers' leaping into the battle
  • A spiralling background was added to the five-Ranger pose following the above edit
  • A green plant background was added to the Spit Flower's growing sequence
  • A sky background wit the Rangers shooting up in their colors was added to the second five-Ranger pose right before the Pink Ranger attacks with her Power Bow.
  • A pink aura was added to the first arrow the Pink Ranger fired (but not to any of the other arrows she fired).
  • Spinning fire was added to the sky behind the Rangers after they use their Power Blaster on the monster.
Tommy: "Hey, those are cool flowers." - Unless this was Tommy's attempt at flirting wit Kim, this line really seemed to come out of nowhere.

Rita: "Finster! Start thinking flowers! I need a monster that will turn pretty blossoms into ferocious fighters!" - That sounded almost as lame as the time she said "I want a chunky chicken!"

Tommy: 'I got an idea... We'll deal with it later, though. I gotta go." - Um... at least say what you idea is first before you leave, Tommy. Don't leave the others in the dark.

Rita's whole plan in this episode is the equivalent of petty vandalism. Boy, she sure has sunk down a few levels in this one.

Is that Tommy's garage, or Billy's? Cuz it looks a bit too techy to be Tommy's.

Again, the Dragonzord Battle Mode is incorrectly called the "MegaDragonzord".

Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa whoa. Wait a sec. This episode has the Dragonzord Battle Mode (which is formed by the zords of just the Green, Black, Yellow, and Blue Rangers) being piloted by the five main Rangers, including Red and Pink--whose Zords are NOT involved in this combination--and excluding Green? And, since the Green Ranger isn't taking part in the Zord fight, why not summon the Dino Megazord instead?

If those flowers are supposed to be as deadly as they're made out to be, Bulk and Skull should be bleeding severely.

Rita: "How come I never get to win?!" - HELLO! You won several times during the "Green With Evil" miniseries. You won those few battles even though you won't win the war.

Skull makes a Crucifix with his fingers when Zack pulls out a bouquet of flowers near the end.
"When there's gold feathers, punch behind you!!"
