No.
That's not what a bazillion of people who saw the movie multiple times told me on tfw2005. Just look at Ironhide when he comes out of the swimming pool. Same design as Protoform Prime (at least for the feet and legs).

Try the Japanese version.
What's the difference?

But they're not.
The face is different.
Similar, maybe. The same, no.

I'm sorry, I'm bitter. I really was supportive of the movie designs and the toys and the whole 9. I gave it every chance, and just got burned over the weekend by 08 BB and Longarm, and I will not support the movie line any further in any size smaller than voyager. But I feel stupid for having supported this line for so long when all it really did was let me down. Even the Real Gear figures....some of them were cool, and the rest were total crap. I know the movie has caused a huge expansion in the fanbase, but man alive, if these figures are the first TFs you've collected you have no idea what you've missed.
Out of curiosity, how were you burned by 08 BB and Longarm (2 figures I've yet to acquire). Also what are your criteria for a good TF, and what series would you point to as a shining example?
Auto Bot wrote:Raymond101 wrote:megatroptimus wrote:Weren't all Autobot protoforms in the movie the same anyway?
No.
All of them were flaming squid balls falling out of the sky.
That's after you flash a Batman lightbeam into the sky, with the logo replaced by Autobot symbol.

Ultimately it's just my opinion, and I realize that, and I know that a lot of people 'round here have a lot of love for 08 BB and Longarm. I just feel personally that I've sunk a lot of money into this line of figures and have generally gotten, as far as the Deluxe class goes, a bunch of crap. Longarms' truck mode is fine, and his robot mode is cool as well, but I'm disappointed by the transformation and the lack of really being able to get him back into truck mode. Certainly people will say that I just stink at transforming Transformers, but whatever. 08 BB I was just very disappointed in. I am generally displeased by the transformations of the movie Deluxes, sure they are very nice looking, you know. They look like what they're supposed to be. Like when you look at Barracade you know it's a police car, not like a number of the Cybertron figures where you stare at alt modes for days wondering what it's supposed to be (Menasor...) I just don't like them, and I feel like I've fooled myself into thinking I did and thereby wasted my money. I don't really believe that though, becuase the first wave of Deluxes I really love. Brawl, Bonecrusher, Barracade, hell, even Scorpanok is fine by me. Silver Jazz doesn't do it for me, but the Target Jazz is wonderful. Geez, if you trace back movie figure talk long enough on Seibertron you'll find posts from me talking about how much I LIKED the protoforms, becuase I did! These newer Deluxes, I am disappointed by.
Shining examples? Like I'm an expert? Obviously, all this is just my opinion, but I can find something from every TF line that I really like. Shining example? Probably Classics, I grew up with G1s so my love for them is deep. I like the Armada figures like the size of MEgatron (voyager?), and the Energon Deluxes are very cool, And I like almost all the Cybertron figures except for the Jungle Planet ones although both versions of Scourge are radical. MY favorite TF figures are G1s, but that's just my opinion, something about nostalgia and just always having loved those figures. Whatever, just my opinions. Every line of TFs has its problems, but I just try to be positive and collect the toys becuase I like to do so. I just feel real let down by the movie Deluxe class.

First of all, I am surprised you were disappointed by Longarm and Bumblebee. That means, yeah, the 'flagships' of the newer deluxes is null and the rest of the toys aren't going to be so appealing. conversely, I'm surprised you like Deluxe Brawl and Scorponok. If you are disappointed by the lens heads then I agree with you 100%.
Have you tried arcee or Wreckage yet? They are very awesome figures. I'm personally more disappointed by the Voyager Class figures - specifically the Decepticons. Ironhide and Ratchet are fine, but Starscream I don't like, and I have a lot of problems with Blackout.
LEader Class I am very happy with. More new Leader molds please!

You are exactly correct with the Longarm. I thought i was the only one who noticed the problem.
He has nice alt mode and bot mode. But once you transform him to robot, it will be almost impossible to transform him back into truck mode.
I feel vindicated!![]()

I'm a also fan of Swindle, though a decent head would've added a lot to it. One of those figures where I know it has flaws, but I like it anyway.
The figures I'm most disappointed with are voyagers. With deluxes, I can probably forgive a lot, given the price.

I'll admit... I had one of these Go-Bots that basically transformed into a rock... wow. what an awesome alt-mode. a rock.
at least my rock was a gold nugget.
Auto Bot wrote:Since protoforms don't transform into vehicles. Just those metal balls that are easy to design. (Compare to fitting a bot into an established shape, such as car or airplane)
I'd consider them only as good as its robot mode. Virtually zero on transformation and alt mode.
Just like Scorponok. Very nice alt mode (or animal mode). But virtually zero on the transformation and robot mode.
That's just 1 out of 3, for the money we spend on it.
I'd say, protoforms should at least have as good a painting as Scorponok.

hmm yes. Protoform Optimus and Starscream didn't have the same colour. Because meteors or whatever are same in colour but prime was blue and Starscream was red and both should have been Blueish-Grey

Maybe Hasbro just wants to show Starscream's feminine side.

Actually, meteors can be many different colors. It just depends on what they are composed of. Sorry. Just had to say it.
I personally like the Protoforms. It shows, at least to me, just how alien the Transformers really are.
