Ho ho ho. And here I am...
Anyway... there's actually a movement, based on the net and probably in real life circles where women are encouraging self-abortion, which, well, I'm more concerned with the medical danger they're placing themselves in by doing this. On the web there are sites that talk about herbs and even physical methods which can result in all kinds of damage to the body.
Anyway, to the matter at hand.
Firstly, the comment that aborting a child is more merciful then to bring one into a world of hurt and neglect. News flash - there are thousands upon thousands of couples (basically enough to meet the abortion demand number) to adopt these so called "unwanted" children. There are people out there who are suffering big time from the inability to have children naturally and they end up langusihing on waiting lists. Children in foster care are in legal limbo and can't just be adopted at the drop of a hat. And seriously, its 2009, how much sex ed do you need? The Internet, TV, an [un]Planned Parenthood on every corner. To have an unwanted pregnancy is just evidence of stupidity.
As for miscarriage, dear God do these women grieve for their lost children. Its tragic. I'll throw in an amazing story that I witnessed at my place of employ.
The gynae ward was full. The ward I was on at this point was a "dumping ground" as it was a particular speciality that didn't bring in patients in droves. A woman due for an abortion had been admitted, sheduled for the procedure the next day. She was in a 6 bed room (yes, we have 6 bed rooms in NZL hospitals). Anyway, two women in that room were miscarrying (there were heaps of miscarriages that night - we ended up with 6 on our ward!!) THe woman in the bed next to her was having her 5th miscarriage and had been through 14 rounds of IVF, they had mortaged their house, business and sold their cars in an attempt to have a child, they had not been successful with waiting lists. The women got to talking as patients do. Long story short - the abortion minded woman after listening too and seeing the grief and despeartion of the MCing woman was so moved she asked me to make a referral to the social worker and guess what, an "unwanted baby" got a home!
My job has taught me to hate abortion even more, for the horror that it inflicts on women and their lives. God, I don't even work in a gynae or pscyh ward and every week I'm meeting women who tell me how much they regret their "choice".
Not to mention, abortion has dehumanised the unborn so much that a woman who miscarries is not acknowledge by society, and told she's foolish to grieve!
My mum miscarried and I'd have a 26 year old brother if she hadn't, yet, years on, my mum still grieves for the son that never breathed. You really have to meet these women to truely see the damage this so called "pro-woman" movement has done.
Interestingly, my thoughts on abortion have evolved to a point where I'm more interested in the care of women and getting them to see abortion is a man-made construct designed to control women and delude them into being at a man's beckon call for reproduction only when the man desires.
As it is, this woman could have used Mifepristone (RU486). Thanks to the pro-aborts this damnable dangerous drug allows women to "complete the process" at home, which is medically dangerous.
The "Pro-choice" movement stopped caring about women a long time ago.
