You can't go wrong with RID Optimus Prime and Ultra Magnus. Both are really great figures. Plus they combine together to form Omega Prime.
Just so you know, RID was a pretty much a filler line, with the Autobots having the most new molds and the Predacons and Decepticons were repaints of previous toys. If you like combiners, the trains that form Rail Racer are pretty cool, as are the Build Team that make up Landfill. If you don't have a G1 Bruticus, you can get a differently colored reissue named Ruination. If you like complex transformations, the car brothers Prowl, Sideburn and X-Brawn are pretty complex. Another complex figure is Megatron/Galvatron and is pretty much the only new Predacon mold. Although not released in the US, RID also saw the release of one of the Holy Grails of TF collecting, Fortress Maximus. Fort Max is the biggest TF ever created and if it didn't fail its drop tests, probably would have been released in the states. This one has to be imported. The other predacons, aren't bad either, especially Sky-Byte who is a superior repaint over his Beast Wars release, Cybershark. Another highly sought after baddy in this line is Scourge. A black repaint of G2 Laser Optimus Prime, is one that is really popular with collectors. The one thing to look out for with this line is the condition of the tires. Optimus, Magnus, The car brothers have a rubber like tire and there have been reports of the tires disintegrating. You are most likely to find these figures on eBay though a few online retailers may have some on clearance but it is highly unlikely. Just make sure you check out the condition of the tires on those figures and you should be ok. Hope this helps.

Most of this is going to come out Car Robots style as that is where all of the figures from this line that I bought came from. That being said, I would say the most important figures would be Prime, Magnus, the Car Robot brothers and Gigatron. After that, I would go with Black Convoy, Build King and JRX. Well, I guess I'm saying just get them all. That's what I did. I love the entire line, even the repaints.

The tire cracking is pretty hard to avoid, even my Cybertron-reissued Prime & Ultra Magnus are having that problem. However, it's fairly easily remedied with some superglue.

The ones I own are Prime & Magnus, TRU exclusive Scourge, Autobot Brothers (both paintjobs except for X-Brawn, just Rally version), and JRX (japanese Railracer), and Dreadwind/Smokescreen. They're all awesome figures. Since I'm not into beastformers, that's all I got from the line.

I suggest Prowl if you want a compact, sleek toy and a very articulated and detailed robot mode. If you want a big toy with lots of action features and an equal amount of detail and articulation, Optimus and Magnus are great from what I hear.

Oh, and the train guys look awesome. I'd get 'em.

I don't own either of them, but I believe Galvatron and Gigatron are identical aside from the paint job, even though one is touted as having more modes than the other. The instructions just don't show them all for one of them.

I've got to put a word in for Railracer/JRX as well. Probably one of my top ten figures and to my mind the greatest gestalt ever produced. The combined mode goes together in a really unexpected way (just try figuring out this sucker without instructions  :???:  ) and is sturdy as hell as well as nicely posable. Even the individual bot's weapons combine into a supergun. Plus he just looks sleek and integrated in a way that combiners usually struggle to acheive. The proportians on the individual bots are a little weird but depending on how much of a stickled you are for that sort of thing this just adds to the charm. Plus it's three trains, there just aren't enough trainformers. I've only got the one set at the moment but since my preference with gestalts is to have two and display the individual bots in front of the combined form a second set is definitely on my want list, although there's always that figure that I don't have yet that's just that touch higher in priority... One day.

I have Galvatron, and he is pretty cool. Quite articulated, and lots of modes.

IMO his best modes are Robot, Plane, Claw, and Griffin.

The rest don't look a thing like what they are supposed to be. Well Maybe the elephant looks like the skeleton of an elephant with the wings for ears, but that's about it.

He is a great figure. Looks really cool, with his red double edged sword. And I gave him Energon Rodimus's orange gun, as his Arm mounted gun ala G1 Galvatron, and he looks really snazzy.

Other must haves are Prime, and Magnus.
Scourge, which i sadly don't own, but am desperately looking for one at a normal price.

The Car brothers (Side Burn & Prowl) are very nice, a little hard to transform, but look pretty cool.

People say The Train team is pretty good, and makes a pretty good combiner.

I absolutely love Landfill. The individual Robot modes look very nice, and the combined form manages to look imposing.

If you want some G1 action, Ruination is a good buy and with so many deco's available you are sure to find one you like.

You should stay away from Skybite (terrible execution of transformer), and the Predacon trio: Gas Skunk, Slapper, and Dark Scream. Really not worth it IMHO.

I have RID Prime, Mangus, Prowl, and 2*Scourge (my first one is a Black Convoy, I like it a lot so I also bought an RID Scourge).

Oh, I have an RID Bruticus too. He's fun but the way I see it, there is too much bright orange/red color. Plus he got pink eyes...

You can't really go wrong on purchasing one of the RID figures, if you find one. Try not to pay more than regular retail though (if new in box).

well I think bruticus is pretty cool from looking at the gallery. I pretty much thought prime and magnus were essential.

thr railracer gesalt does look cool as well

I think scourge might be out of the question even if i find him due to cost.

anyone have Bludgeon? He looks good as well

I've often seen a loose, complete, good condition Scourges for $45-50, so I wouldn't consider it out of the question. Not sure what he's going for these days though. If you're not an MIB/MISB collector, loose is a good way to go for older figures, you can usually find some good deals.

now that you've hopefully regained consciousness Skywarp.

Do you like Omega Prime better with the hands that Magnus gives him. Or Super Prime's medium sized hands. Like you have in your second Picture.

I like the larger hands myself, and rarely do I combine Omega with Prime's Ladder. He's heavy enough as it is. I don't think his waist could take all that wait for very long.

Mine has the large hands, and the ladder attatched as some sort of back-mounted railgun. Similar to Skywarp-2's, but the red spare truck parts are arranged more wing-like, and the ladder is lower over his head.

You really can't go wrong with anything from RiD. I can't say that there is a bad figure in the line (well, Bruticus...).

Let's say there are no bad figures that were in the show. :)

If you do decide to get Megatron/Galvatron go for the US release in the color of your choice. THe Japanese Megatron (the black one) actually cannot do all of the alt modes that Galvatron can because Takara retooled the figure. THe US version uses the Galvatron mold for the US Megatron and Galvatron.

Wow, is that really true??? I've been thinking of getting the galvatron myself because he's like the Ultimate badass in the show, plus his color scheme is wonderful as well.. That is certainly nice to know...

I too think that you really can't go wrong with Robots in Disguise series of toys..

Plus you really can't go wrong with this guy!!!!

thats what I noticed when i got my megs back in 02, the "megatron" (purple) can do the same modes the white galvatron can.

As for the best Rid figures, got to go with scourge. I had prime, but taking the cab form the firetruck got so annoying.

Well with the R.I.D. line I own the Autobot brothers the smaller spy changers I believe theres 10 in all Optimus Prime and Ultramagnus, both Megatron and Galvatron Railracer and Landfill Gestalts.Own Ruination as well.

All are decent and would recommend them. Prime and Magnus are great especially if you merge them to form Omegaprime {though privately I really don't believe Prime should have to merge with any other TF.}

Megatron and Galvatron are great and very articulated and despite Megatron only having 6 official modes instead of Galvatrons 10 you actually can perform all ten modes with Megatron. My only grief is that Megatron's and Galvatron's colour scheme are opposite to what they should be and in my opinion should be switched. So yeah if you can find them get them.
