Nightmare on elm street (2010)

Postby Nathimus Prime » Wed Mar 17, 2010 11:48 am

Is any one else excited about the remake of A Nightmare On Elm Street.

I mean I know a lot of horrer remakes are bad. But I'm really Excited about this one. The Previews look really good. And I'm a big nightmare fan.

Although I can't believe Robert E. Wont be under the make up any more. But Hopefully it'll be good enough to make p for that.

I hope someone gets pulled into the bed and ripped to shreds :BOOM: :BOOM: :BOOM:

Last I heard it's from the same guys that made the Friday the 13th remake.
And based on what people said about that, I'm guessing people will hate this again.

Nobody should play Freddy except Englund.

Course... I've been wrong before. ("Nobody should play the Joker except Nicholson.")

IIRC it's the actor who played Rorschach in Watchmen (whose name escapes at moment) will be new Freddy Kruger.

I liked it too but I still hear that it's a poopy remake and is nothing like the original movies. Well I haven't seen any of the originals yet, but that has to do with the fact that you can no longer get the uncut versions over here, the only horror movie franchises I know of that can be get uncut over here are Alien, Saw and Hostel while the classic horror franchises can only be seen cut and edited but still rated R. :-|

I said the same thing. It turns out, it was Robert Englund's choice not to return as Freddy, he said he felt he was too old or something like that. This makes it easier to accept; studio executives didn't just say "No, we don't want you, go away" he actually left so someone else could try their hand at the role.

In general I've been pretty disappointed with the rash of horror remakes lately.

-Psycho was terrible
-Texas Chainsaw had none of the dirty gritty film quality that makes the original so shocking,
-The Amityville Horror was like swallowing barbed wire.
-Rob Zombie's Halloween....I'm half and half with this film...it showed moments of pure genius like the scenes after the original murders before Myers is an adult in the sanitarium....the rest of the film....not so good, especially the girl playing Laurie...she was like a blackhole of acting.
-Friday the 13th...the film was a mess of stuff that just essentially felt like a bad rehash of the other Friday films.

The two notable exceptions for recent Horror remakes are...
-Willard...the original was a good film....Crispin Glover made the remake AWESOME!
-My Bloody Valentine 3D...Fresh story that still paid homage to the original, and the kills were amazingly inventive...its hard to come up with fresh ways to kill characters but this film did.

*EDIT*
I forgot The Omen remake which was quiet good as well.

As for Elm St. I'm worried.

I like the guy playing Freddy, from Watchmen I can so see what made producers chose him, and while the preview looked like it hits all the Elm St points of interest....creepy girls skipping rope in slow motion doing the 1...2....rhyme...the thing that killed the preview for me was the Freddy makeup...it just looks aweful.

This is pretty much the same way I feel about it. Its like they tried to go with more realistic burnt face and I don't like it. The original Freddy's face was a high exaggeration of burnt face that fit with his characterization.

Some of the sequels get pretty silly, but, if you are a fan of good horror films, then I highly suggest you see the first film, the second film, Wes Craven's New Nightmare (the seventh film), and Freddy vs. Jason. Those four films are, in my opinion, a must-see for anyone who watches any horror films.

yeah, dream warriors got kinda campy. I still love Freddy's dead the "final" nightmare (6th film). with its crazy 3-d parts (most people don't realized when the characters put on the 3-d glasses, you're supposed to put some on too. not required, but nifty)

Yeah in order...
-A Nightmare on Elm St.
- Classic, great film a must see.

-A Nightmare on Elm St. 2: Freddy's Revenge - Fair sequel but honestly it had a parrot attack scene that ended up in a bird spontaniously combusting...its a decent flick but a step down from the original

-A Nightmare on Elm St. 3: Dream Warriors
- The camp really starts kicking itself up a notch but its about as good as part 2 if only for the facts that Freddy is funny, and cool, the effects are better ad the concept of Dream Warriors is pretty cool.

-A Nightmare on Elm St. 4: The Dream Master
- This is easily the beginning of the end of the series, as the level of camp just jumps off the scale. What was a horror series is now a comedy with undertones of horror. It's not completely aweful and even has some creepy scenes but you just know at this point the films are being written around the thought, "What can we do to give Freddy a funny line here.". I think this is the one that featured the sole head pizza. That really says it all.

-A Nightmare on Elm St. 5: The Dream Child
- I'm sorry easily the worst of the films Freddy skateboarding? It's watchable but barely.

-Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare
- The camp goes hog wild...Freddy uses the Nintendo Power Glove for a kill...I kid you not. But it gives us some interesting back round on Kruger and how he got this job of dream killer. BUT the weird idea of having a ghost town of Springwood with parents only (Freddy having killed all the children of Springwood) reads like a bad episode of the Nightmare on Elm St. series....actually there are no good episodes of The Series. Major props to Johnny Depp for coming back for a bit part.

-Wes Craven's New Nightmare
- Some people just don't care for this film. Me I think its very clever...The Freddy Franchise is over but what no one knew is it captured creature an idea demon of sorts...an idea that was okay living in the film franchise, but with no new Freddy films where does a displaced idea demon go? Well it breaks through to the real world of course to take out the actress that orginally defeated Freddy in the first film. Clever stuff.

-Freddy vs Jason
- The characters are secondary and not even remotely important their just there to be placed between these two manics. Basic plot people forgot Freddy...once he was forgotten he held no sway to get into their dreams...so Freddy drags Jason out of Hell and unleashes him on the teens of Elm St. to give them a good scare...the only problem is now Jason is killing Freddy's victims, which leads to the greatest match up since King Kong fought Godzilla. Honestly the two of them hacking away at each other is the centerpiece of this film...its a lot of fun.
