No Lips on Prime Part 2...

There is more to Transformers than movies, cartoons, comics and toys. Discuss anything else Transformers here.

It wasn't Bay that did it. Even in G1 they gave mouths to the many of the characters, ex Perceptor.

However, I fin OP Iconic with his faceplate. They are friggin' robots, why do any of them have mouths?!? They don't have an esophagus or a digestive track, the oral opening is for aesthetic purposes only.

I, for one, don't find it aesthetically pleasing for OP to have a mouth. But hey, that's my opinion.

I purchase based off of my opinion. That is why I have not bought any other incarnations of OP except the one(s) I like.

I choose not to support any of the movie line, or the new anime line. Neither did I buy any Armada, Energon, or Cybertron lines except the planets. I speak with my wallet.

Actually, according to More than Meets the Eye #8 they do indeed injest fuel through their mouths, AKA consumption oriface. It should also be noted that even in the G1 cartoons, we see Transformers eating or drinking Energon and other substances through their mouths, so, yes, they do indeed have an esophogus and digestive tract.

Regardless, as others have stated, this has been done to death, Prime has a mouth, which, honestly, he always did, we just never saw it because it was under his face plate. The fact that his face plate moves up and dpwn when he talks is evidence enough of a mouht and jaw underneath.

Weapon: Air Rifle
I just cannot see the big deal about it. As long as the mouth is done well, like it looks to be in animated, and as it is in the new movie, I really don't mind.

Some people are just so picky.

His faceplate was up, and whilst it looked awesome just magically moving up and down while he poske, it TOTALLY ruined the emotional aspect of the character. With a faceplate like that over your face you cant see any emotion, and thats why they got rid of it in the first place and only left it on during battle scenes which makes more sense to me anyway since bumblebee has his battle mask, so does megs and ratchet and i think ironhide has one too.

Keep the lips, stop the "geewun OMG BAY RUINED MY CHILDHOOD BY GIVING PRIME LIPS" whining.

Again, this is just another case of you bringing up old topics that have already been discussed to death a million times already, none of which ever had a happy ending.

Now you're just an annoyance. THIS THREAD IS NOT ABOUT THE MOVIE.

I'm terribly sorry you were unable to emotionally relate to Optimus Prime until they tacked some hideous lips onto him, and that you have such dis-taste for all the material that came before Bay's "masterpiece", but this is not the topic for that.

I disagree. It seems that this crew, unlike the Bay Administration, have some care for the fans. There are just too many G1 homages for it to be otherwise.

He still has the mask, just not ALL the time, I dont see what the big issue is.
Optimus Prime is a beautifully fleshed out character, his popularity over 25+ years attests to that. Not having the mask up 24/7 doesnt degrade the character.

Ghost of Starscream is correct, this horse has been beaten, buried and dug up more times than I can count. All the way back to Optimus Primal.

G1, G2, Beast Wars(when he was found in the Ark), Armada, Energon Primes all had just the faceplates. The only character that was originally intended to be Prime that has lips is the movie one. RiD prime I believe only had "lips" in his Super Mode, which isn't quite the same thing, and he was meant to be Fire Convoy anyway. Galaxy Convoy was meant to be, well, Galaxy Convoy. And Primal doesn't count since he's a different character, not a different version of the character.

I am once and for all going to say, flat out; No. The other continuities do not matter as much as G1. The G1 appearance of Optimus Prime is far more iconic, so that counts for a lot more than the variants. Listing all the "others" don't count for as much since they're not the iconic version of Prime. It's an annoying tactic many supporters of the movie have been using, treating all the continuities as if they're equal.

I have accused, in the past, vehement movie supporters of being drone like and are not terribly logical. Not only are you ignoring every counter argument to "THIS IS NOT G1", you are also posting it in completely the wrong topic, as if you're some spambot programmed to relay a dumb message.

Can we please keep this about animated Prime please?

And we shouldn't "Have" to get used to Lips on Prime. We shouldn't have to absorb every change because someone says so. The majority of the fanbase was against lips on Prime, and it does alter his iconic image in an unnecessary manner, either way.

I can't even get into to how much I hate the "dead horse" argument.

"Hey, we're starving, can't you give us some food?"
"Jesus! You've been at me for DAYS about this. Stop beating a dead horse!".
"Oh, that makes sense."

Extreme example, but "DEAD HORSE" is not a valid rebuttal to anything much at all. It's merely an indicator that you are unable to argue and can only relay your thoughts in the form of weighted terms and ideas.

Lol, being told that IM the annoyance here really amuses me considering who im talking to.

But anyway this IS about the movie as urm...well...this whole "prime with lips" BS has only been started because of the lips on the prime design FROM THE MOVIE. 8-|

Ive been able to emotionally relate to Prime long before the movie came out, so go screw yourself for saying such a thing to me of all people.

I just dont understand why you people have to keep on whining and moaning about this. Its over, its done with, it aint gonna ever change so get over it! Most of us did, i know i did even though i was initially shocked to see them on him at first but i got over it like any rational person would. Basically you need to move on, as this obsessive, constant argueing and bickering with everyone else who has a different opinion to you is not only unhealthy to you, but also idiotic at the same time.

heres the bottom line:

IT DOESNT MATTER THAT HE HAS LIPS, GET ON WITH WHATEVER LIFE YOU HAVE AND MOVE ON

You're a **** troll. Get the hell out of my topic and learn some respect for opposing viewpoints. You're the reason all this bickering exists.

Look at this:

"I disagree. It seems that this crew, unlike the Bay Administration, have some care for the fans. There are just too many G1 homages for it to be otherwise."

I disagreed with someone without being a twat. I stop disagreeing so kindly when people like you come along and low-braincell-count it up for the rest of us.

Again, this is a topic about Prime's lips in TF: Animated. If you want to bully people into changing their views, then go have make love with random members TFW2005, they share your hobbies. If you're not here to discuss the topic at hand, then please leave. That's how messageboards are supposed to work.

IMO. the lips don't really matter to much, IT'S STILL OPTIMUS PRIME. And he still has the faceplate, he just has at as optional device as opposed to a permanent feature. As long as optimus has some homage to his roots and is the nobel commander we know and love I'm all right.

Now G1 Prime had now mouth, the faceplate just moved to alow the voiceactores to do there bit.

Since animated nore the Movie are G1 it dosn't matter that he has a mouth.
I'de say that on those two Primes the mouth realy fits and looks good, unlike Cybertron's Prime.

Face it, they won't change it, cos unlike a 3D model they can't animore!
They would have to do the whole show (animated) again!

Face it that Prime mouth looks cool!

I'd prefer the mask...but if he has to have lips...then there's no problem with that either.

Wouldn't you want to see prime smile like this in the next movie>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

It seems to me people are losing the plot a bit. People are always going to whine and complain, and no amount of whining about people whining is going to stop people from whining. If people want to whine about prime having lips there's nothing anyone can do or say to stop that short of making sure they can never speak (or type) again. The logical course of action is to let those who wish to vent their feelings do so without stirring up a hornets nest of misplaced emotions. After all, nobody is being forced to read the threads.

Actually, there is comicbook evidence that showed G1 Prime did indeed have a mouth under his faceplate.

It's settled. Optimus Prime needs his facemask in the worst possible way.
The BW Primal -- originator of the problem -- mask came from a 2nd or 3rd season ReBoot comment. A mask-wearing Bob is forced to remove a cool-looking mask in order to show emotion while speaking. Or as he put it: "you just can't talk in these things." The remark was repeated when Bob returned from the 'Net wearing heavy armor, late in the 3rd season.

Looking at ijuintekka's sig picture, let me address another concern: Why are all the Skywarps trimmed in an inconsistent shade of purple/lavender/pink? Just go with the original lavender/pink color. You can't go wrong!!!

ijuintekka wrote:I would have thought it would be just as easy to convey emotion using the eyes as it would with the mouth. Considering the fluidity of the new art style it wouldn't be unreasonable to use widening/narrowed eyes or brow furrows to convey the emotions of characters people would prefer behind face plates.

Haha, not trying to go off topic but honestly, some of those colour choices are truly awful. Purple so light it's pretty much pink, and shockingly camp lilac, I wish so much they would use the dark purple that the robot heroes Skywarp has.

I wrote a huge long responce to everything in this thread and it didn't take.

Arrgh, I'm not writing it all again. I give up.

I like OP with a faceplate and I'm OK with that.

PM OP showed a mouth behind the faceplate. I credit that due to the Nebulan interaction. Songbird children's books and the UK Marvel comix sometimes showed OP with a mouth.

Meh... sometimes he has the faceplate, sometimes he drops it. I don't see what the fuss is about. I think the apparent reason for the mouth is more offensive (I'm not sure that's the word I'm going for) than the very fact of its existence.
Removing the plate because it's harder for the animators to show emotion while wearing it just sounds like a cop out; you can easily show emotion on a mouthless face using the eyes - even if the character has visor optics. Even more so since they're using the flexibility of hand drawing over rigid, unmoving computer models.

No, I'm fine with the mouth.
I'm surprised no-one's mention the chin, though; now that perturbs me...
