ORIGINAL or REISSUE?
Hey! Just wondered what everybody thought about reissues?
Is it better to get the original, pay more for it, maybe even get a loose or worn version, or...
Get a reissue, MISB, nice and clean for half the cost?
Some Re's that I don't regret:
GOD NEPTUNE
RUINATION
PREDAKING
FORT BRAVE MAX

I tend to get Hasbro reissues only becuase they are cheaper and easyer than gettign orignals. They are however generally not as nice as a mint origanal.
Takara's are normally spot on or better, so why waste the extra money getting something that is 20 odd years old?

It comes down to money and intention. How much do you have to spend and how many do you plan to get? If you plan on getting an entire line, then the orig's will cost a whole lot more then re-issues. If you are a freak completist and only want the origs, then you probably only want MISB and then you are already going spend Buco Bux anyway.

I only buy originals that are in really, really, really good condition.
I have waited like 4 years now for the Dinobots to be reissued in hopes that I won't have to deal with the vintage market.

I think I'm in the same boat there.
I loooves me some dinobots, but I want some nice, clean ones w/ no chromewear. Maybe stickers unapplied too much to ask?
Seems like a logical choice for reissues to me...

Repaints do not count as reissues (technically, only the mold is reissued, the original toy is just not replicated), just so you know

I too prefer reissues over originals: easier to find. I'm a lazy git...

I dig the re-issues. I wouldn't mind the original MISB/MOSC either but the re-issues - especially the Takara re-issues are fantastic and tend to come with a lot of cool stuff that the originals did not.
The Hasbro re-issues are nice too, especially the G1 Commemorative Series. The packaging made me feel like a kid again.

i also go for the re-issues more often than not. That is unless there hasn't been a re-issue of some particular figure i want. Like the Dinobots. In which case I'll try to find the figure in the best state possible even if it not in box.

Which one? Megs was re-released at various times. Sometimes with the firing mechanism working, sometimes not. Sometimes with sword, morning star, bullets, blue legs (inside).
I am not sure how many times he has been issued, but it is numerous.

I think what he meant was God Neptune and Ruination are not Re-issues but recolors. They needed to be Piranacon(Seacons) and Bruticus(Combaticons).
And as far a I know the Seacons have not been re-issued as such.

I prefer the re-issues mainly because they are cheaper.
In fact, with the exception of some Minibots and knock-offs, the only original G1 figures i have are ones that i had as a kid.

Overcracker says
They were re-issued and recoloured for Beast Wars Neo. They were called God Neptune or something like that. Also, there is a rumor that they have been recoloured and are being held hostage by Hasbro. They were going to be released under the Universe line, or so the rumor went.

I go for reissues where I can, but my collection has some originals, since the reissue versions were expensive or hard to find

I really don't collect much G1 stuff. What I have are my favorites or Nostalgia peices only. Two reissues Skywarp and Jazz. Only because they are my favorite characters. And two Originals Soundwave and Jetfire. Jetfire I had to have because I haven't held one since I was 7. Soundwave I just got a good deal on. If I could get a decent deal on Megatron that would be the only other figure I would get reissue or otherwise.
I love the G1 cartoons, but I didn't have many of the toys as a kid and don't have the great attachment that some others might. Thus for me reissues are great because I can play with toys that other than when my step uncle brought his over I never really did much with.

Depends on the type of collector you are.
When I collected Gen 1 it was before the re-issues were available so I was lucky to get hold of a few C8 boxed originals and a few MISB European Classics.
Move on to the release of the Takara and Hasbro re-issues and yes, I think that they're worth it. Of course if you want to complete a series you'll need to find originals of Wheeljack, Mirage and Reflector but most of the rest seem to have been re-issued.

No they weren't re-issued for Beastwars Neo as the G1 Seacons. They were Re-colors of the Seacons moulds into God Neptune add to that that the God Neptune re-color did not have a re-color of seacon Nautilator.
For a Re-issue to be a re-issue, it needs to be the same mould, with the same name, and the same color scheme only then is it a re-issue. Even the Soundblaster in Soundwave colours we got recently is not a real re-issue Soundwave, because its not a Soundwave mould.
Same goes for Ruination. all the Ruinations out ther are just recolors of the mould, not actual Re-issue Bruticus.. Bruticuses?? Brutici??.
In any case, We have yet to see an actual Re-issue of all 6 Seacons in Seacon colours and Seacon names. (including Nautilator).

...O Kay...
Lay off the caffeine, man.
Yes, you are correct, for a re-issue to be accurate, it must be the same thing (mould, colours, etc...)
However, I did state (and you quoted) that they recoloured.
I know, I know semantics, language is a B!tch.
Anyway, back on topic.
I like Re-issues, they are cheaper and come Mint(y fresh). You can get a toy in a box that's not trashed. However, with the Hasbro re-issues, we have the new safety laws thing going on and half the weapons don't fire and the rest at over 3" long (the missiles, silly). However, I bet I could still choke a child with one of those things.
So in summary re-issues good. But, for the ones with broken moulds, we will have to buy the origs.

Yeah, go with the reissues. Much cheaper, easier to find, and brand new! Takara or Hasbro, either version. Hasbro is usually a little cheaper, but Takara is usually a little better.
