hellkitty wrote:I'd also add that the storylines were fairly demanding--it's hard to tell a serious story with comedy. I mean, that last fight scene in the first PotC movie--Jack is having a serious fight, but he's also being funny and cheeky. Not a lot of actors can do that.
Orlando Bloom cannot do that. I'll come out and say I hate Orlando Bloom. He looks like a weasel. The only role I enjoyed him in was in _Troy_ where he was basically a snivelling, ummm, sniveller. He did his best to suck the enjoyment out of _Kingdom of Heaven_ (Ridley Scott + the Crusades should have been EPIC WIN). I suspect Mr Bloom doesn't have a sense of humor. He certainly can't act comedy. He doesn't, and this becomes almost palpable in the later PotC films, make a good straight man.
I thought PotC3 was kind of a stretch--parts of it seemed downright hallucinatory. Still, if anyone can pull of bizarre and hallucinatory, Johnny Depp's your man.
HK, (minor swoon for Johnny Depp.)

And seeing how Jack and Barbosa were planning on looking for the fountain of youth at the end of #3 I can see it now..
After all sorts of misadventures Jack and Barbosa find the fountain of youth and drink from it.
Fast forward to 2011.. Jack and Barbosa are still alive and both own large business conglomerates as "pirates" of the industry.
Man, after reading that article things have sure raised my interest..
