Pirates of the Carribean 4 On Stranger Tides set for 2011

Depp's back. Rush has expressed interest in returning as Barbossa. Bloom won't be back due to he circumstances of he ending to POTC 3. Knightly has said she wants to move on. Hopefully Gibbs and the other pirates will come back. I'm interested to what Jack will be up against this time.

Glad they will be making another one. The character is too good to pass up.

And the film should revolve more around Jack this time. That's what I felt was so wrong with 3 - it took a good half hour before he even made an appearance, when he does, it's like the most awkward 10 minutes in cinema history, and the rest of the film wasn't so entertaining either. Jack made the first one, he was pretty dang funny in the second one, but the writing failed him in the third one.

Let Depp really run with it this time, let him get weird, he does it so well. Recapture the zany fun of the first one.

Barbossa would work for me, he serves as an excellent foil for Jack. I'm glad Keira won't come back, she was getting very tiresome by #3. Bloom, had some interesting times, and I'm not sure I am glad he's gone, but considering how the last one ended, I can see it's probably best. And Gibbs has got to come back, he's just hilarious. And Jack, the monkey of course.

I'd like to see Calypso make an appearance. That should go well..

I like the fact that Bloom and Knightly aren't returning and it's not because of dislike of them or their character's roles. Basically, their stories diverge from Jack Sparrow's after PotC 3. William is attending his duties as the captain of the Dutchman and Elizabeth is raising their son. It would be too forced to make the characters somehow come back for the 4th movie. If PotC 4 is the last of the film series, I'd like to see it explore some new ground with Jack Sparrow and have the movie as a big final send off for the series.

One issue I have with PotC 3 is that it feels constantly tugged in two directions. The script wants to focus on William and Elizabeth yet the character of Jack Sparrow is inherently a show stealer and with Depp's performance, you can't help but want to see the movie be about Jack. William and Elizabeth are given the big scenes of the movie but we all know any time Sparrow is on screen he is the star.

Convotron is once again a gleaming mighty pillar of rightness. (Wow, that sounds kind of phallic, doesn't it?)

I'd also add that the storylines were fairly demanding--it's hard to tell a serious story with comedy. I mean, that last fight scene in the first PotC movie--Jack is having a serious fight, but he's also being funny and cheeky. Not a lot of actors can do that.

Orlando Bloom cannot do that. I'll come out and say I hate Orlando Bloom. He looks like a weasel. The only role I enjoyed him in was in _Troy_ where he was basically a snivelling, ummm, sniveller. He did his best to suck the enjoyment out of _Kingdom of Heaven_ (Ridley Scott + the Crusades should have been EPIC WIN). I suspect Mr Bloom doesn't have a sense of humor. He certainly can't act comedy. He doesn't, and this becomes almost palpable in the later PotC films, make a good straight man.

I thought PotC3 was kind of a stretch--parts of it seemed downright hallucinatory. Still, if anyone can pull of bizarre and hallucinatory, Johnny Depp's your man.

Seeing how the 3rd one ended I would not expect the Turners to show up again as it was pretty much their "farewell".

And seeing how Jack and Barbosa were planning on looking for the fountain of youth at the end of #3 I can see it now..

After all sorts of misadventures Jack and Barbosa find the fountain of youth and drink from it.
Fast forward to 2011.. Jack and Barbosa are still alive and both own large business conglomerates as "pirates" of the industry.

Man, after reading that article things have sure raised my interest..

Among other films unveiling never-before-seen footage were "Alice in Wonderland," "The Prince of Persia," "Tron: Legacy" and "Oceans," a 2010 sequel to the Disney nature flick "Earth." Cook briefly reiterated prior details on Jerry Bruckheimer's "Lone Ranger" reboot with Depp

Sounds like some interesting movies coming down the pike.

It could be a good or a bad thing...

I must agree. I can't imagine anyone off the top of my head that can bring what Depp brought to Sparrow. Unfortunately, Bloom is the polar opposite of acting ability. He seems to be a one note performer who thinks slightly breathless delivery of dialogue makes him sound more dignified. He's kind of like the British Keanu Reeves.

Oh, yes, he does look like a weasel.

But I don't have any animosity for Mr. Bloom. Just calling it like I see it.

That idea for seeing Sparrow and Barbosa in modern times is cool. I'd love to see that for an ending! :)

I'm a bit wary of John Carter of Mars...here's hoping the movie adaptation will do justice to the source material. I hope Gambit does a decent job at JC.

Speaking of upcoming films, I'm kind of looking forward to Solomon Kane as I'm a fan of the character and R.E. Howard. There are some deviations from the source material, not necessarily for the better, but I think James Purefoy could be a very interesting SK. One thing I hope that someday will come true is a proper adaptation of Conan the Cimmerian to the big screen. Arnie's version was cool but a truer version of the character would be very brutal, in a good way, in a film.

Personally, I felt PotC3 was enough, but if they decide that a fourth is necessary, they'd better make it good. I also agree that it's good that the Turners won't be added - doing so after their story basically ended in AWE would be stretching things a bit.

I'll be honest, I have thought of a sequel where the Black Pearl and crew is on the run from the "new" American "superfrigates" (think USS Constitution) and maybe even be involved the First Barbary War. However, considering the timeframe and supernatural themes of the first three, that thought is wishful thinking at best.

A new Muppet movie? I hope it does well.

Among other films unveiling never-before-seen footage were "Alice in Wonderland," "The Prince of Persia," "Tron: Legacy" and "Oceans," a 2010 sequel to the Disney nature flick "Earth."

Considering "Earth" was basically, from what I've heard, a cut-down, re-ordered version of the BBCs/Discovery Channel's "Planet Earth" mini-series, Oceans sounds like it will be a re-cut, re-ordered version of the mini-series "Blue Planet."

I can't believe I didn't stay for the scene after the credit in PotC3 and missed Bloom coming back and w/e. I think the shift of important role happened basically in PotC2 where Bloom is starting to become a hero (more scenes) and Depp just kinda became a comic relief. :-x

I'm with Blurrz. The first one was quite different and, while I'm not big into the genre, really entertaining. The second one felt like a second movie. And the third one just didn't draw me in at all. I was bored. I was kind of hoping the third would be the last.

I really don't see the point of having a number 4 to this series. Number 3 wrapped things up quite nicely (in that the characters ended up where they should be if not at the end of their stories). Moving to a number 4 is just milking the franchise.
Next up on Pimp My Jeager.
