Question about new metroplex...

Postby DavidDraper » Sat Aug 13, 2016 9:07 pm

Hey- do the red posts that rotate out from the new Metroplex's helicopter landing pad have a purpose? I can't tell if they are meant to interact with a specific figure or are a reference to a scene or if they are just a random addition, and its kind of driving me nuts. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

I assume you mean this guy, yes?

Just asking, as, since he came out in 2013, I'd not exactly call him "new." But he is, to my knowledge, the newest Metroplex there is, so I'll assume you do mean him.

If that is who you mean, then the red posts in question, as far as I am aware, are purely decorative.

Although, with the right third party add-on, the 5mm port on them (when they are in the down position) can be handy for attaching a new tower.

Titan Returns Fort Max upgrade request...

Postby DavidDraper » Sun Aug 14, 2016 1:22 pm

It drives me nuts that the current fortress maximus's runways do not have ramps at their ends that go down to the floor level. Does anyone know of any upgrades/replacements out there that can be swapped in to make the current fort max more like the previous versions in this regard?

So far, the only upgrades I've seen for Fort Max, both from Perfect Effect, are a sword:

...which, of course, is a bit unnecessary for anyone who went SDCC or Takara, or people who just don't care for a sword since it never came with the domestic release of the G1 toy, anyway, and a gun:

...which I personally plan on getting myself. Some ramps could be cool, and if done well and not too expensive, I could see myself going for them. But really, the only other thing I desperately hope someone will do at some point is Gasket and Grommet, so Fort Max can have all of his little buddies to go with him.

Need to piggyback off this post. I finally found a Generations Metroplex at an acceptable price. The only thing is it's missing the big red gun, the 2 shoulder guns, and Scamper's gun.

Based on some research, it looks like my best options at a reasonable price are TFC-009 (but shoulder guns supposedly don't peg well) and the 3P standalone big red gun (but I'd still need shoulder guns). I noticed the B&A Sixgun as well, but that isn't as easily obtainable now. And I didn't see anything used on ebay.

Are those my best options or am I missing something? What would you guys recommend? Thanks.

The thing that vexes me slightly about the two gun versions of Generations Metroplex is that I can't seem to see anyway to attach the large red guns to the deck like you can with the original toy - and also the ankle parts or knee parts are not seemingly designed to "parts form" to make the armour for the attack vehicle mode either.

So instead of the 2 main vehicle modes the original has - carrier mode and attack mode - this one is stuck in carrier mode all the time.

Also speaking of third party accessories - I'm a little surprised that a high priority on their list wouldn't have been a ramp extender so the ram can reach the ground - or even new knees (the interior grey pieces need a stiffer joint and a rotator cuff added to them) so he can form better base mode positions like the original. the exact same knee joint would also be a huge benefit to Fort Max too as the same lack of a lower leg swivel also stops him from forming more elaborate base modes or making proper use of his legacy repair bays left over from Metroplex..

The other thing I hope some are considering label wise is interior stickers for the repair bays that he completely lacks.

Those repair bays are the ideal size to use with the mini-figures yet they don't even really acknowledge them as a feature at all on Fort Max.

I'm beginning to think my ideal Metroplex may end up being the Overscale 3rd party KO if that thing ever comes out.

I don't know why people assume Metroplex always stays in Robot mode and don't do a bit more to flesh the bases out too.

Though someone missed a trick by not making an adaptor kit to allow Metroplex to be decorated with Combiner wars characters using their ports - as that was a feature of the original version after all his ability to combine with the Aerialbots - heck some might even argue that Metroplex is a giant accessory for the Aerialbots or Protectobots.

---

Back to Fort Max though - I hope he gets his double barrelled gun sometime - I still am kicking myself for not buying the 3rd party guns for 2000/2001's Brave Max I just forgot.

Perhaps Hasbro can repaint Fort Max and give him his guns and then offer the guns in blue for Fort Max as a convention exclusive item.

------

Some nice TR connection ramps would be good too.

I myself am a fan of the Before & After Sixgun. Here's my Metroplex with him:

Alas, as you mentioned, this may not work for you. One, it is harder to find these days. Two, this option uses the stock black shoulder guns from Metroplex. So while it will get you a pair of large red guns, it won't help with the black shoulder ones.

I wasn't a fan of what I saw of TFC's Gear of War 3 package (TFC-009), but if you can find that for a reasonable price, perhaps that would work for you, after all. It will get you new black shoulder guns, two matching large red guns, and a third large red and white gun that looks similar to Metroplex's stock large red gun. So really, all the weapons one might need other than a gun for Scamper. Scamper uses a 5mm hole, though, so really any small black or red gun you can find with a 5mm peg could probably work in a pinch.

Only downside may be that the TFC set won't get you a Slammer (the little tank that came with G1 Metroplex), while the Before & After set will. If that is actually important to you or not is up to you.

There was another set that had Sixgun and Slammer as legends class figures, but that won't really help you if you are looking for large weapons big enough for Metroplex to wield. Finally, there was a company, X2 Toys, that put out a close replica of Metroplex's stock large red gun that could also transform into a tank. One by itself was close to $40, though, so it didn't seem that cost effective to me when either Before & After or TFC offered a ton more for only a bit more than twice the price.

Thanks Yotsuyasan for confirming. I think general consensus from what I saw from youtube reviews and the forums was that B&A's Sixgun is better. But I was leaning toward TFC since it basically gives me all the guns I need and it's much more affordable at this point. In fact, I was able to grab it just earlier off of ebay at a decent price. The X2 gun looks sweet. But I agree with you that it doesn't make sense at $40 when the other options can be had for a little more than that.
