Does anybody know why certain transformers for example, Roadbuster, Whirl, Top Spin, Twin Twist, Chopshop, Ransack, Venom and Barrage, were never ever animated in the origonal G1 cartoon series?
The only thing I could think of, is that most were not original Takara/Hasbro design products so maybe it was down to some Trademark issue. However other characters such as Jetfire and Shockwave were animated and they again were not origonal products so I'm not entirely sure.
So, has anyone got anything more substantial?
Thanks
Quick question..

You've basically nailed it. There's a few exceptions (Shockwave, Omega Supreme, Sky Lynx), but pretty much all the the others were licensed from Takra's competitors by Hasbro for the American market but weren't included in the show or the US comic.

Thanks Skyfire, I thought it might be something like that.
I guess that also means that we're unlikely to be seeing any official reissues any time soon. Shame I never looked after them better when I was a kid. I guess it's true what they say, you don't know what you've got til it's gone!
Anyway thanks again Skyfire.

You never know, Sky Lynx and Omega Supreme both got re-released, after all.

Here we go, yet again...
The majority of the "borrowed molds" came from Bandai, a direct competitor to TakaraTomy. So no chance of a reissue unless hell somehow freezes over. Sky Lynx and Omega Supreme however were property of Tomy: after the Takara-Tomy merger those two became accessible for Takara to use.
The resident Rewind... well, half of one

see it as a gift, that way LOADS of unseen TF's are more exciting when we see them appear in comics
