Hi,
Does any one have a recommendation for a book or book series to read, preferably fantasy?
Note: There is a difference between preference and quality. Shannara is good quality, I just found it a little boring. I am not looking for a book that is all dark and serious. Like Artemis Fowl, Star Wars, Ender's Game, Xanth, Split Infinity, Brust, Ready Player One, all have parts that are funny, entertaining, and light hearted.
Here is a list of some books that I have enjoyed:
Excellent, Superb, A
Coelho - Alchemist
Tolkien - Lord of the Rings
Card - Ender’s Game
Brust - Vlad Taltos
Anthony – Xanth, Split Infinity
Hess – Siddhartha
Cline – Ready Player One
Artemis Fowl - Eoin Colfer

Enjoyable, Good, B
Harry Potter
Asprin – Myth Adventures

Decent, Average C
Sword of Shannara

There are some other books that I tried and didn’t like. I may like them if I tried them again, but at the time I didn’t like them and I might still not like them.
Pratchett
Salvatore
Thanks if you can help.

I can give you two series I've read:
The Death Gate Cycle by Margaret Weiss & Tracy Hickman
A series of seven books, detailing the war between two races of magicians, set in a world split into four elemental realms, and a fifth world called the Labyrinth. The first four books are set in one realm each, mainly for building purposes, while the final three build up towards the climax. Each book has an appendix detailing some aspects of the world, and if you're musically inclined, you can the songs at the end as well.
Riftwar Cycle by Raymond E. Feist
More like a meta-series of books, with several mini-series so the chronology can be a bit wonky. Each series can be read standalone, but I'd advise you to start with the Riftwar Saga containing Magician (a rather thick book, better put some time aside), Silverthorn and A Darkness at Sethanon to get acquainted with the world the series takes place in.

I'd give a try to the magnificent, and recent, N.K. Jemisin - The Fifth Season, The Obelisk Gate, and The Stone Sky.
For a younger style of writing, but incredibly bleak at its core: Patrick Ness' Walking Chaos Trilogy.
And as I don't see it on your lists: Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials (which is due a re-read from me too).

I messed up the title, it's A Chaos Walking! Sorry.
The three books are The Knife of Never Letting Go, The Ask and the Answer, Monsters of Men.

Its old, but the Ravenloft books were a nice grimdark fantasy. its definitely an interesting setting since its dark, like gothic dark, with the Dark Powers of Ravenloft tormenting these dark lords who rule the misty lands of Ravenloft with ironic torment. Lord Soth is a personal favorite of mine, an undead knight who has three banshees who shriek constantly about his failures.
The Horus Heresy novels are always good, if you like grimdark sci-fantasy.
The Dark Elf trilogy was a great set if you again, like older fantasy. Can't go wrong with R.A.Salvatore or Elaine Cunningham.
