Scifi Wire wrote:The big frakkin' robots appear to have won out over the wooly mammoths after all. Updated studio estimates released today show that Paramount's Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen was No. 1 in the photo-finish race for box-office supremacy this weekend, topping the domestic pack with $42.4 million, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
We reported yesterday that Transformers and Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs were tied for the top spot when preliminary box-office estimates for the July 4 weekend were released.
But morning updates from various studios consistently showed Ice Age in second place with less than $42 million in Friday-Sunday boxoffice. On Sunday, both Paramount and Fox estimated their pictures had taken in a chart-topping $42.5 million in boxoffice over the three-day Fourth of July weekend. Final official data from Nielsen EDI will be released midday today.
Sunday estimates showed Transformers with a cumulative $293.5 million for its first 12 days in domestic release. The Ice Age three-quel boasted a $67.5 million since opening Wednesday.

http://www.boxofficemojo.com/alltime/domestic.htm
Titanic is still the top at $600,788,188
Dark Knight is already no#2 with an unbelievable $533,345,358 in just a year.
The original TF is currently 20th at $319,246,193.
Iron Man is 21st at $318,412,101
Josh you might not see it doing as well as TDK and lets face it, it will be hard for any movie nowdays to copy those earning but as far as doing well against TF and IM...
TF2: ROTF is currently already 31st with $293,355,885. And there are still huge numbers of people who have yet to go see it.
Even if the numbers it takes halves by next week and again the week after, it will have beaten Iron Man and likely TF.

Best way to see the movie, I've discovered, is in IMAX and with a bunch of my coworker's kids. (WHY do people trust me with their children!?) Nine year olds + IMAX = awesome.
HK, now, Starscream fangirls...totally makes sense.
tfphatty wrote:As it stands now 12 days in, ROTF is roughly $100 million dollars ahead of the first TF movie at 12 days in. Unequivocally and without a doubt it will surpass it's predecessor. The $400 million that some were saying after it's opening weekend seems like a long shot, but I could see it "limping" to $350 million. And by the way, all films limp to their final total gross. And in regards to all the non-transformer fans I'VE talked to (which in the scheme of things really means nothing) most that have seen it, want to see it again in IMAX, and those who haven't seen it yet are looking forward to disregarding what so many of those out of touch movie reviewers have said, and are excited to see it! - IMHO
