Rumble/Frenzy

There is more to Transformers than movies, cartoons, comics and toys. Discuss anything else Transformers here.

Rumble/Frenzy

Postby Scorpulator » Wed Aug 19, 2009 9:18 pm

Okay, I'm sure this has been asked a gazillion times before, but I am new here so please forgive me. In the original show, Rumble was the blue cassette robot. But when it came to the actual toys, Frenzy was the blue robot. Which one is which? Is the show right, or the toys? I have always wondered about this.

Also, Rumble always used to transform his arms into ground pounders in the show. Anyone else ever thought those pounders should've been included with his action figure?

Seriously though, I've been toying with making pile drivers for Rumble for a while. Maybe once I'm done with my ROTF repaints...

Technically the toy is right.

Remember all forms of Transformer media, toon comic or what ever, is just a tool to sell the toys.

Also the cartoons pre-production bible lists the red one as Rummble.

The animators made a mistake.

Actually the answer is given in this comic :P

Seriously though, the toy is correct: Rumble is red, Frenzy is blue. Anyone who says otherwise faces my Bunny Mallot of Extreme Squishiness.

the toy is no more correct than the cartoon. its based of continuity.
rumble was blue in the cartoon. fact.
his toy was red. fact.
if 1 was a "miscolor" then it would have been fixed in a rerelease.

I completely disagree.........

The toys came first so the toys are "more correct".
rumble was blue in the cartoon. fact.

Yes Rumble was blue in the toon...that is a fact. But whats also a "FACT" is that the shows pre-production bible has Rumble listed as the "RED ONE".

if 1 was a "miscolor" then it would have been fixed in a rerelease.

So the cartoon character was "miscolored".And I dont see how you expect that the cartoon would have been fixed in a re-release.

The simple way to look at it is the form of the arguments you'll see for the characters.

The RIBFIR side is more or less that the show had then 'incorrectly' in those colors and everything should stand that way. This is backed up by comics by a company with GIJoe licence, and Diamond select statues that easily could be messed up due to a Diamond employee who only knows the characters from the cartoon.

The FIBRIR arguement however is backed up by the Toys, and not just the original ones, but the newer Japanese releases and the alternator Rumble release.

Not to say either side is completely right or wrong, but that one is backed up by physical objects, and the other off a production error that has been discussed and addressed by the involved parties as just that, years ago.

luckily the beauty of the Ribfir/firrib argument is inherantly people have to disagree with each other. otherwise it would be one or the other.

and dont tell George lucas things can't be edited in rereleases :P idk i thought i heard that some of the miscolored scenes were fixed in the rerelase. if its a error the easiest way to fix it would be just dub out the name rumble with frenzy, but yeah not worth fixing.

personally i stick by what you see is what you get. i see a bluish purple cartoon Rumble, thats g1 cartoon rumble. i see a blue g1 comic frenzy, thats g1 comic frenzy.

like in beast wars, we never see g1 megs spark returned. a comment kinda alludes to it, but thats it. the authors say they intended the spark to get put back, but the scene was cut. authorial intent, but does that mean it happened?

but like i said the fact this debate exists is because people insist on their own answers, and there is no 1 right answer. Besides, I know better than to get snarky with Sto :P

This is good enough for me.

On the subject at hand: Whatever may have been in the pre-production notes is immaterial, the blue one was called Rumble and the red one was called Frenzy in the actual cartoon.

Far as I'm concerned, RIBFIR.

End of line

On a serious note, Dropping and replaceing the name would have been far more effort then they would have been willing to do.

Apparently George Lucas can do what ever he wants to do with Starwars.

"If" a comment alludes to the return og G1 Meg's spark....then it happened.

Its hardly "immaterial", its evidence that the animators either made a mistake or deliberately chose to change things.

And its evidence of what was intended.

But it doesnt change what was seen in the final product.

If you are more into the cartoon, then, in your eyes, RibFir. If you are more into the comics, then, in your eyes, FibRir.

Does it really matter enough to argue about? Imo, it is not.
