If thee's one thing that I've noticed the most about this movie's hate or main dislike by some who actually enjoyed it, it's that the robots were overhsadowed by the human characters. Even director Michael Bay and writers Orci & Kurtzman were dissapointed at that fact, but reality came crashing for them because as Bay said on one of the DVD features he wanted to go higher with the budget so more robots would be in it but his people thought it would be a bad idea and he decided to stick to what he had. Should he have gone higher? As much as I would've loved to have seen more of the robots, an overbudgetd film could end up being a bit of a mess for financial sakes, I think.

Should Bay have raised the budget for the first?

Absolutely true.
A huge budget on the very first try might not have been a good idea. The movie was a big success anyway though, and now we get a bigger budget for the sequel.

Re: Should Bay have raised the budget for the first?
Bay could have asked for 300 million and even if his status in hollywood was widely renowned as one of the greatest directors ever it doesn't mean he's going to get the money because it's not his money it's the studios.
Bay cut his directing fees by quite a bit to keep the film made in america and to use the crews he wanted to.
I don't really see the point in all of these hind sight is 20/20 threads being created about this movie ?
