So what? It's Hairspray's opening week, so it's to be expected that it'll make some money.

However, have you actually looked at the total box office? Harry Potter's at $398 million and some chump change. TransFormers is close to $401 millon. Still beating out Potter so far, I have a feeling it'll beat the sh*t out of Hairspray and Larry as well.

Right, i was only speaking in terms of opening-week totals. Yahoo does tend to skew those, or so i heard from other seibertronians.

I don't see what the big deal is. The box office gross totals shouldn't decide the opinions of the TF movie for anybody.

Well said. Alot of ucky movies get MASSIVE moola' raked in.
And similarly, brilliant movies sometimes get lost under the landslide advertising of someone else's movie.

For some it might help make the decision (which isn't the best way to look at it.)

For others, it's a way of continually validating their point.

I mean, when you have 10,000 maniacs wanting to tear down your opinion and do it with hatred, you get a little tired of it all, and it's nice to be reassured that you weren't wrong to begin with as some would believe and have you do as well.

Then when they realize they're losing the hatred battle, which at this point has become pointless bickering because their opinion, while entitled, is not correct. (It doesn't go with the facts.)

So then they pull a rabbit out of their hat with bald faced lies, ridiculous accusations, facts and figures pulled out of their asses (or miscommunications) etc...and then they attack personally because someone happens to like the film.

It's a little cringe worthy, I mean, what can you expect when you click the next thread? "You idiot! How can you like that Hasblo Bayformers crap? You're not a true fan, you're a true piece of sh*t!" A lot of people, including myself, are just flat out sick and tired of this ridiculous tactic.

So yeah, while it shouldn't help you make a decision by using box office tallies, it does help you prove to those idiots with blinders on, that no matter how much they wish it or want it, this movie is nowhere near a failure, and they can't deal with being wrong.

Even if I didn't like the movie (which I did, oh it was eye candy of the diabetic kind...YES!) I'd not sit here and say "Oh no. Those figures are wrong. It didn't make $400 million, it made $400.00 and you can't change my mind. Okay, fine. It did make that kind of money, and it's all your fault because you're untrue Bayformer fans, who continue to feed the sh*t machine. F*ck you all." <--now isn't that just insanely ridiculous?

Facts vs Opinions people....facts win out every time. When that happens, it's time to embrace reality and come to terms with it, then move on. That's all you've got to do.

Well, it is insanely ridiculous... but who's saying that?

Anyone who saw the marketing blitz would have to have been moronic to not think it'd rake in the bucks.
All I do see is people saying, "Even though it made a ton of money, it doesn't mean it was GOOD".

Think how many things get shot into the spotlight of pop culture for awhile, but are pure ass.
There's a good deal of such things, yes?

Marketing can explain a good opening weekend.

Marketing doesn't explain strong word of mouth and the lowest weekly drops of any summer blockbuster.

The film being good or bad is more of a personal opinion that fact. As of right now, the opinion seems to be a lot more positive than negative.

I do find it amusing that first the movie was going to bomb, the general public would never accept it, etc. and now it's "Oh, people are dumb and of course it was going to make money!"

Uhhh... I think some folks are misunderstanding my point. I was talking about personal opinions. Some people are angry and saying that "Harry Potter made more $$$ in the first weekend that TF. OMFG, how can this be, etc."

My point is that you don't see me deciding now that TF was bad because Harry Potter beat them in the box office. That's what I meant when I said that box office gross totals shouldn't decide people's opinions about what they think of the movie. If some didn't like it? Fine. Others loved it? Awesome.
