I've thought about it and I think it might have been a way to foreshadow more combinations.

Re: So, What was the Ice Cream Trucks "Key Plot Point"?
After having heard Orci's little heartrending story at Botcon of being locked in a hotel room with occasional drive-by floggings by Michael Bay, I'm not sure the writers weren't hallucinating by the time they finished the script. It would explain a lot.
And it would also account for the fact that I don't think they'd recognize a plot point if it bit them on the ass.
Still, I thought the twins were...less annoying than I'd feared. Of course, compared to Leo.....
And as someone else here already said, they did give Bumblebee a good foil to work against. I love the scene in Petra where he separates them.
HK, I am the evil twin.

I'm at the point where I'm thinking that the writers and Bay just said things to pique our interests, but knew full well that what they were promising would not be in the movie.

Yup. Saying they were a key plot point was just fueling the disinformation machine that Bay told us would be even more present for this film than the last. Think about how much we were racking our brains trying to figure out what the hell that thing was doing on those leaked Set pictures. The Ice Cream Truck was nothing but bait and tons of us bit on the line and ran with it.
I mentioned this possibility long before the movie came out and said that I thought the idea of it was brilliant. Lo and behold we have a thread where folks are wondering "What was the point?" I'd say it worked pretty damn good.

It had a Dicepticon symbol on it...explaining the twins possible Decepticon past. Key point?

The assumption that those two would have actully SURVIVED in the Decpticon ranks is a huge one. If Frenzy had survived the first movie even HE would have taken a shot at killing those two.

Yeah, it's probably been debated already, but I missed it.
I almost believed that I must've imagined it, because I hadn't seen anyone talking about it.
Why DID the twins sport a Decepticon insignia in their ice cream truck form?
A disguise makes sense to me. I'd believe that, but it wasn't explained during the film.
There wasn't even an attempt at a hint of a reason why they had a D-con logo.
Because they were TAUNTING Decepticons. That's not really lying-low.
I know that a LOT of things did not get clearly explained or whatever during the movie, but if they're goint to take the time to do that shot where they wanted the Decepticon insignia to be REALLY obvious, wouldn't it be explained?

Yes, it did.
It did? Really? When did this happen in the 2 1/2 hours I sat through it?

Ohhh... don't get me started.... but they give us a CLEAR shot of this D-logo, it wasn't some little thing that we caught while REALLY paying attention, something Bay thought we would miss. No, it was in our face, which means they wanted us to see it (yahhh i know.... they were prob more interested in us seeing the "suck my Popsicle" bit). So was it a mistake while painting the truck? Or did it mean something? I mean it's always possible they were Decepticons.... but because there personality, gave it up FAST.

EXACTLY!! What heck?

I think it woas just their way of saying
"Hey Decepticons! Suck my popsicle"
Which would of been too long for the side of the little truck - so they used the logo instead

Herp and Derp's decepticon logo is not painted onto the truck, but, if you look closely, is part of the bumper sticker because you are able to see the sticker's outline. The decpticon logo is there just to abbreviate a taunting.
Optimus Prime wanted to go on a Rampage after Sideways tried to Sideswipe him, which caused his Mudflap to come loose and get Skids all over his Ironhide.

T-Mack said it best-the Ice Cream truck was an amazing way to get people wondering what was going on. Then we go to the movie and quickly realize it's main purpose was simply a way of getting us to shell out the cash to watch the movie at the theatre.
As far as the decepticon logo.......I thought it was actually pretty clear that it was to taught decepticons. No need to read too much into that idea. However, why was the name Mudflap used for an Autobot? Skids is appropriate, but Mudflap is a name that has been used by a Decepticon character for a long time(more than one figure also). Maybe there is something to it. Heck, they probably just messed up. IDK!

Movie reason: disguise to hide, surveillance
Hasbro reason: guess (really too blatant when you think about it even though I think the truck is cool & thus far we haven't had a autobot ice cream truck)
but silly when u think about it -why would an ice cream truck be selling at night in a Chinese industrial area?? Conclusion --don't think about it too hard, it's just a movie!!!!!

Honestly, I didn't notice the Decepticon logo at first. I just found it out when my friend told me about it. By the way, how can they become twins if one is an Autobot while the other is a Decepticon?

Selling an Ice Cream truck to not only kids, but to the many adult collectors as well. The movie had no plot, so I fail to see how it played a role at all. The deluxe Skids and Mudflap ice cream truck is going for a lot of money on some sites, and its the only one I can never find at stores. It was just another excuse to add to the toy line.
