Again, you can't argue with Aliens. I wouldn't say *every* time. Just most times.

I'm still holding out on a press release saying that Raimi and Sony kissed and made up. Probably won't happen, but I can hope.

That's not what I meant. I meant movies where the director is replaced during production. I can't exactly name anything off the top of my head, but it's usually much worse. What Fanboys almost became is a good example.

The Mummy went through 3 directors during filming as I recall.

When you're dealing with an established franchise, like Spider-man or Batman, getting a director who's passionate about the franchise is always better than getting someone who doesn't care about the franchise. Since people keep batting around Tim Burton (which would be horrible for Spider-man, Burton makes good movies, but he doesn't fit the genre of Spider-man) and his Batman movies... They were good movies, and I liked them, but to the fanboys (not hardcore, just fanboys) they're like the Bayformers movies to the Transformers franchise. Sure, they're good movies (Batman ones), but compared to the rest of the franchise, they're pretty far off.

Casting also goes a long way. The new Trek film was awesome, in my opinion, but less for the story and more for the casting. For the most part, you can look at the cast and go "Hey... I'd buy that's a younger version of that character."

Another thing that tends to be annoying is when people do "This guy would be awesome as this role, because he's popular." That almost never works when casting for roles. You're almost always better off casting someone who's virtually unknown rather than going with an established talent, unless the role is written with that talent in mind, which usually makes the character come across as being out of character.

You recall wrong. The Mummy went though several directors, sure, but filming didn't begin until Stephen Sommers was hired to direct.

Interesting. Honestly, my knowledge of it was only from news reports at the time. Heavily delayed and many directors.

I gather that. I wonder why the news reports at the time said it was delayed, over budget, and went through a bunch of directors. :-?

Oh well, I don't mind being wrong as long as I get corrected. :D

If you read TVtropes (And if you don't, why not?) this kind of thing happens very often. The article is titled "Did Not Do the Research" or "Critical Research Failure."

Vulture can report that Sony will imminently announce a deal with (500) Days of Summer director Marc Webb to direct not one, but three Spider-Man movies in a rebooted franchise that will focus far more on the private life of Peter Parker.

How did the Sam Raimi movies NOT focus on his private life? That's actually one of the major points in Spider-Man, his attempts to juggle work, private life, and being a superhero. The Sam Raimi movies showed a lot of how his superhero life effected his private life, and vice versa.

EDIT: And also his name is Marc Webb. Webb? In a Spider-Man Movie? Really? I think they picked him just for the name.

More focus on his private life? If they focus any more on that Spider-Man won't be in the movie at all. Is it too much to ask for a Spider-Man movie that focuses on Spider-Man?

There was some idiotic wishful thinking that he'd be called to play Spider-Man. People are so vehemently against even just the thought of that that they posted an anti-Pattinson campaign.

Sad thing is, the poor guy hasn't even been asked, nor has anyone ever said he was being considered, and he's already being vilified.

He's got too much on his plate with the Twilight sage, plus any British productions he might be in, or about to be in.

Would he even accept Spider-Man if it was offered to him? I doubt it. Twilight put him on the map and made him famous with people of all ages, whereas a superhero movie could seriously damage his career like it did Tobey Maguire's. (Do you honestly think we'll see Maguire do anything that'll even be noticed now that he's not Spidey? Of course not.)

It's nothing to worry about. Just a few idgits wanting their dreamboat to be something he most likely will never be.

The thing is he might actually want to play Spider-Man if they offered it to him, he hates everything about Twilight and especially Edward and the fans and will try everything to get away from his gay Vampire image.

That's what makes him cool. He only signed on so he could hit on Kristen Stewart (Admit it, despite the fact that her mouth doesn't close, you'd do stupid things to hit on her too), but then realized that everything that came with his contract (fangirls included) wasn't worth it.

That said, no I can't see him playing Peter Parker. Robert Pattinson seems way too much like the rich cool kid, the exact opposite of Peter, who is supposed to be the nerdy outcast, someone comic book readers can really relate to.

I would say he looks like he could be a near perfect "young" Cletus Kasady, he would just have to smile permanently and maybe colour his hair orange and he'd be every-bodies favourite meaningless psycho.

I really just hope they don't use the 'Green Goblin' again, or any of the other villains from the previous. Maybe Venom... but just not the same villains or I'm going to lose it.

They will prolly wait awhile to release a new spiderman movie. People sometimes take awhile to not feel attached to characters and story line especially after 3 successful installments. What if they decided to make the star trek reboot 2 years after the original series movie? Outrage im sure.

I don't know if there could be a better JJJ than in the old movies...

I've just re-watched Spiderman 3, and... while 2/3 of the movie is awesome, the New Goblin, the "who-shot-the-uncle" and Venom lines of the story make the rest wasted.

They used Alfred in the first 4 batman movies. They could still use the same actor for Jameson.

Its obviouse why they did the who shot the uncle and the death of harry. They left an opening for a new story arc by ending the old one. Alas, it will never happen. Even if people outrage like im sure they have been.

Hmmmm so out of the three movies, who was everyone's favourite villain?

Personally I know that 3 was awful, I kind of hated it when I was watching it (ugh emo Spiderman fail), but I thought Venom had a great portrayal in Topher Grace. I'm just a casual Spiderman fan so i don't know 'everything' or 'anything' really, but I think I'll be happy as long as we get different villains.

I'm not really sure myself. From the comics, it was Sandman. But one of my beefs with the movie was that they made you sympathize with him by making him a "not such a bad guy after all" type of character. Green Goblin was not such a bad guy until his serum changed him, Doc Ock was not such a bad guy until his arms took him over, and Sandman was not such a bad guy because he was doing it all for his daughter. Someone should tell Raimi that there ARE bad people out there.

Other than that, I thought Sandman wasn't bad.

IF they had decided not to reboot and keep the original cast and director we could have got Carnage. But he is a serial killer so im not sure how they would go about the character.

Carnage should star in a r rated movie, especially when they utilise his cannibalism. Damn I want to see Venom and Carnage done Live action justice.

If they did Carnage, they would either have to "violate" the tone of the Spidey movies by making an R-rated massacre in the fourth, or we'd have a watered-down, puppy version of Carnage. Either way, something is getting messed up.
