Laugh at me all you want, but i did NOT know Spike's last name was Witwicky!

Now that I do, can someone please explain to me what i missed from the movie in relation to the G1 series? (as you might have guessed, i wasnt old enough to appreciate the G1 series as most of you have)

Most of the movie did not relate to the G1 series, even though we were told, at least early on, that it would.

Each autobot is a poor translation of a G1 autobot, except Prime and Bumblebee, who were good translations.

Each decepticon likewise was in G1, except for Blackout and Barricade who were in Energon, but Barricade was only called Barricade in Japan, he was Onslaught in the US.

The dad, Ron Witwicky, should have been a machanic called Sparkplug. There was never a mom, let alone an alchoholic one, Mikaela should have been a blonde genius named Carly, a teenager going to MIT no less. The Autobots lived in a crashed spaceship called the Ark in the side of Mt. Saint Hilary (Helens), the Decepticons lived in a crashed spaceship called the Nemesis on the ocean floor, and Cybertron was not destroyed, and was significantly more blue looking. Aside from the looks and transformation differences which are understandable, that's about it.

Oh, and in the comics the entire US military hated the Aubobots because they couldn't tell the difference between them and the Decepticons, and in the show it was obvious to all of humanity except the Middle East that the Autobots were the good guys.

I always liked the thought. The more I think about it, the more I laugh at how much sucky a G1 Live Action movie would be. Yep, a strange world we live in.

I liked G1 for what it was. A Cartoon.

Hey, who knows? Mabey in TF 2 Mikaela will move away, cheat on Spike, or get ripped in half by megs. Either way I have a feeling Megan Fox is a one time "wam bam thank ya ma'am" and they'll make way for Carly

sam IS spike

Spike was Sam's nickname in the G1 comic. I think.

Similarities? Oh, don't get me started:

All of these happened in the first three episodes of the cartoon, and the movie:

1. Prime has a glowy orange melee weapon, and Megatron has a mace.

2. A fight at a dam.

3. Decepticons raid a military base.

4. Boombox Transformer infiltrates the enemy, and extracts data.

And trust me, there's more.

I can understand that they changed Spike to Sam. (Samuël James). I'm sure that if they had added Buster, his name would have been changed into Benjamin or Brad or something. But why change Sparkplug's name into Ron? The real fans have know for years that (at least according to the Marvel comics) Sparkplug's real name is William Irving Witwicky!

Maybe we will see Chip Chase in a future movie

Ok so I think they can pull it off by using their nicknames in the next movie. And that Blonde chick could easily be called Carly for some reason or another. She even acts like Carly. I for one found tons of other similarities. Someone said jazz was not a likeness? Yeah right Jazz was perfect. Ironhide was good to but needed a better voice and Ratchet didn't do or say enough to even compare. I was personally not looking forward to the movie and waited until the hype died down a bit I didn't go until last night. I'm very pleased with the way the movie turned out. Here's my comparisons.

Sam and his dad - great
Autobots - Great (coulda done some things better)
Decepticons - Perfect I loved starscream's voice, little upset about megs but it worked. Frenzy is what I would expect of one of the g1 tapes.
Banter between megs and starscream was perfect.
There was even some talk of too much human but I think it worked out for the first movie. I mean this is the meeting point between the humans and bots and how we would deal with them with current technology. Overall I liked this alot
