Starscream's Backstab (Spoilers)

Postby Dr. Caelus » Sat Jul 07, 2007 12:01 pm

I just saw the movie last night, and I'd avoided this forum until now so I'm not sure someone else hasn't already posted this, but did anyone else see Starscream betray Megatron?

I sort of had to piece it back together and replay it in my mind to see if I saw what I thought I saw, but Starscream was the reason they beat Megatron!

Josh Duhammel's troops manage to guide the F-22s in on Blackout, but not on Megatron.
Starscream attacks the F-22 squadron, sowing confusion very effectively. Every time he kills one of the fighters and returns to jet mode he moves up in the formation.
Finally he gets to the front of the formation, with the pilots confused as to how many of them are still up there and who is who, and leads them straight to Megatron, even firing the first shot that cripples him!

Starscream got dick for lines, but you know how they say actions speak louder than words? That was near to being the slickest, smartest, most cutthroat thing I've ever seen any incarnation of Starscream do.

Oh, and additionally, I got nothing but love for Frenzy. Ugly, yes, but also hilarious.
Check out my books, Titanomachies and Divine Retribution, on my blog!

hey i dont blame you for waiting to come back here till after seeing the movie, but yea this has been brought up, its still under debate on whether or not this was infact an intentional scene the writers thought up, or if its fans looking to deep into it....in either case, the writers would be fools to not include this bit of treachery in any future films...even if they never intended for it..its a great accident, and they should work with it..especially to build up starscreams legendary character.

come to think of it starscream did fire on megatron. This movie was really set up good intentionally or unintentionally. I have to see it again now.

Starscream was never at the front of the formation, he was second at the end of that scene.

even if he wasn't at the front, he was still in the formation. plus they never used infra red lighting to key in on megatron like they did with blackout, they just shot on him when they saw him. why not prime? because starscream did lead the attack in that scene. i might be looking too deep but this will all be cleared between the commentary track and multiple viewings hopefully.

It was Starscream, he lead the attack on Megatron and was one of the first to unload on him. How do we know this was Starscream? Well after dealing identical damage to an F22 in front of him, he transforms and falls back into formation. Not long thereafter he and the other F22s unload on Megatron. Plus at the very end during the credits we see that Starscream did in fact live as he rockets thru the upper atmosphere.

How the hell could Starscream have 'led' the attack, if he wasn't at the front of the formation, and didn't even fire at Megs himself?

And it's not like he was blending in, he was giving chase to the jet at the front after he missed clawing at it. One of the pilots even says "Stay on him, keep him in your sights." in reference to scream right before the scene changes.

I just saw it again and I have to agree with you 100%. I found it very strange that he kept trying to go into jet mode instead of just wasting them all and you have just solved that. Starscream rules.

Wow, I never thought of that, Caelus. If that were the case, Movie Starscream is one of the smartest (and most ruthless) incarnations of the character I've seen!

On another note, I agree with you on Frenzy. Out of all of the Decepticons, he, Megatron, and Barricade are my favorites.

You know, maybe there ought to be a penalty for double-posting, with a penalty like a temporary banning to prevent idiots like me from doing this. :-?

Wow, I never thought of that Caelus. Ha Ha just kidding! I think this is a reasonable conclusion from the setup given us. Intentional or not I choose to see it that way!

Why is it such a surprise to people? Of course Starscream would do that. He's done it before and he'll do it again. Whether it was intentionally put in the film, it hasn't been confirmed, but I am not the least bit surprised by it.

well just to note the transforming and undoing it over again with starscream maybe he was just trying to be sneaky and blend in and out of his attack. but yea i believe he helped blow the crap outa megs.

This is right. I have watched it 4 times now at the theater. There are seven F22 jets NOT including Screamer. He Ks 3 of them. Then, after what Gamma Ray decribed, he dives in second behind megatron still in chase of the same jet. Two missles hit megs at this point but you cant see if they both came from the first jet or if Screamer hits him with one. Megs then gets hit with a volley of other missles but these came after the first jet and SS would have blown by Megs. The rest of the missles after the first two must have came from the remaining 3 F22s chasing Jet 1 and SS. Whew!!
Unless something was intended but not shown with footage then the SS conspiracy doesnt hold water.

Athough it would be an awsome thing to have had happen..

I'm under the belief he did shoot Megatron as I was casually watching the scene at that was the conclusion I came to.

They captured Starscream's character perfectly with just this one single scene! Gotta love that sneaky little jerk... he's playing both sides!
Life can be pretty sweet when your alt-mode is a B-2 Stealth Bomber.

When Starscream did his attack run, he first jumped off a F-22, gunned down 2, then tore the wing off of another one, sending him into a building. Then Starscream gets hit with a missles, lets am F-22 pass him and then take off after him. I think he bails out afterwords and heads towards the atmosphere

i'm with this guy here....there is no way starscream was involved in the attack....until yall can tell me how the scene didnt go exactly as he just desribed it then all that screamer got over on megs talk is just plain retarded....trained fighter pilots would never break off chase/attack and go on a bombing run after he just tore apart 3 jets from their own ranks....get real guys stop reaching for thin air.

That just means the bombing run had to have happened first!

There were other teams of planes in the sky, other than the one that Starscream managed to take out. There were 3 Planes chasing after Starscream, while at least another 2 were flying nearby, arching into the city, rather than away, as Starscream was doing.

At no point is it ever shown that Starscream fired upon Megatron at any time. I know that there is no evidence that shows that he didnt fire upon Megatron either. I made sure to keep my eyes focused on this when I saw it for the third time. It's a nice theory, but that is all it is for now, a theory.

If they had Starscream shoot at Megatron in the film, it would have caused confusion for the majority of viewers who have no, or very little knowledge of Starscream's personality.
If there had have been some character development for Starscream in the actual film, then having Starscream fire upon Megatron would have made sense, and been quite clever too.

Perhaps in a version of the film that was never made, and where the Decepticons may have had a scene or two to show their characters, Starscream was meant to fire upon Megatron, but it did not happen in the film that was released.
Awesomesauce; Use it, you know you want to.
