I think we have Dreamwave to blame for the "unarmored Magnus" thing going on right now. We also have RiD Scourge to blame for the "Evil Prime" repaints as well.

I've gotta say that I love the two-pack, although my Skywarp had a smudge of silver paint on the back of his leg... It's nothing that's noticeable in 'bot mode, but is OBVIOUS in jet-mode...

But, really, I might pick up another set just for repainting... With the two figures being sold for $20... That's like buying Prime, and getting the jet for free! Plus, I think the white & black colors make them easy fodder for repainting/kitbashing...

prime

Postby Jestermon » Sat Jan 27, 2007 11:10 pm

I think that we have the original toy to blame for the white prime repaints personally, I like the Magnus alot I do plan to paint the face as the original test shot/ concept on the box.

Skywarp also looks drastically better then the Starscream, also just the value of getting the 2 toys for the price of Prime alone is a great reward for waiting to buy this instead of Prime and Screamer.

I also find that the arm guns look a lot better in his hands instead of on the arms as usual, also this way I do not have to mod the guns to make him be able to hold them straight in robot mode, it was one of the reasons I had to return Starscream when I got him.

This is the first time I have ran into some guys that tried to jerk me around and not sell me the item, the guy was smart enough to know about street dates but could not read the gun( I was armed with the DCPI # and used the scanners to tye it in to see if it was in stock) since he was incompetent he did not know the difference between their reset date and the street date, obviously in the gun it should differentiate the 2 dates, of course this Target is where my gf found Full House Season % like 2 weeks early, and he was in that section stocking so he must have got in trouble since that did have a street date.

I work at Traget, DVD's are alot different than toys.

DVD street dates are set by the makers of the DVD, and since a Walmart screw up years back with selling an early release of a DVD caused other stores to lose money on the sale of the DVD, so they decided to add stiff penalties to all stores.

As for this, it's an Target exclusive, so more than likely a sales planner with a date was set, possibly due to limited quantities.

As far as this toy goes the set dates and street dates are the same. The only thing is the product arrives early and held until a street date. The dvd boxes have a warning on them, and if you're blind you can still see it. These toys are tied to just a sales planner. More than likely an encap will be made for these items. 6 items come to a case, so maybe 3 to 6 cases per store. Hopefully Ramjet and Cliffjumper will round out in the new case assortments...so it will be soon.

Also note, depending on the store, if the item is dated, they may not sell it to you, I know because if the sales planner has specifics on the item, it will be a no go.

Also to break open a case for one item, means the remaining will have to be backstocked or flexxed out on the sales floor. Which means if all get sold, the remaining stock will be replenished the next day, or more than likely that night.

Which could mean the stock could run out before the street date, so some stores will probaly not sell. And guess what, they don't have to.

You need to be careful getting a hold of too many DCPI numbers. Go easy with them folks. Just giving you a heads up!!
I spoke with the toy team leader, and he said it was fine for me to buy it. Since I work on store resets, I kinda waited until today to get one...although, I could have just did a subtraction myself a week ago.

I would have given UM a 10/10 had they stuck to the paint job on the back of the box. They only deveated a little from Skywarp (brighter purple) but they fixed one of the two main probs I had with starscream. Screamers face is so bland you really cant see any detail (the other is the color red they chose... looks almost orange). WELL WORTH THE 20 I SHELLED OUT.

I for one have always been impressed with Classics Prime. Although a repaint, I think Magnus is pretty cool too. It would'vre been nice to get the exact same paint apps as the back of the box but I don't like my Autobots with red eyes. So I'll gladly take the blue eyes grey mouthplate.

As for Skywarp, :APPLAUSE: , , ;)^

His color scheme just kicks ass pure and simple. An absolute redemption for Starscrem.

I finally got two of these 2-packs this weekend. They are fantastic.

I forsee this set becoming quite collectable due to popularity of the Classics and the importance of the characters.

I am indifferent to Classics Prime really, and have found a total love of the Ultra Magnus repaint. Odd really, but UM makes me like Prime a little more.

When I finally got mind out of the package and put them on display together with Prime in a leading pose and Magnus dual gunning it really made me appreciate the already liked mold.

As cool as a Nemesis Prime would be in that mold I really don't want to see it as it seems way over done as of late and if they are going to produce more classics I'd really want to see other G1 characters.

Am i the only person who doesn't mind the constant prime being repainted into magnus thing going on as well as nemesis prime repaints?

I for one absolutely love repaints (when they're done well.) of good figures, and to be honest both figures here are great.

don't mind repaints when they represent other characters so in this case its great.

Only time I get really miffed about repaints is like when the Armada line recolored all the figures for the powerlinx portion.

this is my favorite ultra magnus repaint striaght from prime

Sorry that my earlier post made it sound like I hated all repaints.

If you're up for a road trip to Madison, WI, our East Target has about 24 sets of Magnus v. Skywarp.

What I'm really surprised about is the paint app's. They're horrible! I had to look through over half of them to find a set that wasn't too terribly flawed. :?

Maybe I expected too much

Postby Bonger » Tue Jan 30, 2007 6:34 am

I bought this last week. I agree that Skywarp is fantastic. However, I felt the black paint used was a little dull. They could have done beter there. And I'm not just nit picking. I LOVE this skywarp, but I definately Notice the black everytime I pick it up. A little annoying.

As for Ultra Magnus. Well, I would not have bought him seperately. I HATE the classics Megatron, and do not like the vehicle mode or the guns of the Prime which I did not buy either. That being said, having handled Magnus, he is extremely poseable and has made me reconsider Prime. Too bad he DOES NOT look like Magnus. WTF.

How hard would it be to color him corrrectly, use the correct face, add some missiles on the arms and redo the chest to portray him accurately. I have no issues with repaintsd as long as they represent the character correctly. As nice as this Magnus is, (the toy IS nice), it is also not Ultra Magnus imho. I call him Ghost of Prime. Maybe I'll set up a little scene where he lies on a table, and then pose my G 1 Magnus, Hot Rod, Arcee, Kup and Perceptor next to him to recreate Prime's death in the movie. :-?

Maybe I am just too set in my ways. Keep in mind that this is the opinion of someone who never has, and never will buy any model that did not make an appearance in the G1 show.

Oh and for gthose who do not have Ramjet, Skyfire and Cliffjumper, I got mine at Walmart and they were bursting at the the seams with them. This was in Framingham MA fyi

Hrm...Apparently there's still issues logging in? I tried to record my sightings in the sightings section but I kep going in a loop of needing to log in.

Anyway, I got mine!!! I had to ask using the DCPI#. I hope I didn't get the nice lady helping me in trouble. She was able to bring it to me from in back. I love customer service at Target!!

That's odd.

I had the exact opposite experience. The paint apps were really quite good. It was down to deciding which of the very small imperfections I was going to accept on Magnus. As far as I can tell, Skywarp is perfect. (well, mine is).
