Don't feel bad. I bet they'll be having seizures deciding wether or not to give Transformers an Oscar award. Granted it did have special effects but the story was sub-par.

Apparently Whatever the imaginary mechanics of it are (these are super advanced alien tobots after all) it's not beyond the realms of comprehention that a robot would be able to smell.
