TF2 for Christmas '08?
I've been thinking about this and it could be a reality. Hasbro made a lot of money from TF movie merchandise, but not necessarily the kind of merchandise they wanted to ship - such is the case for Starscream and a few other designs for the bots.
The summer as a release date is bad for Hasbro as they want to shift toys - which is by far best done at Christmas.
A year and a half is ample time to make another, better Transformers movie. Why? Because we've seen many different designs for the robots already - they probably have enough CG material to make a sequel as it is. But they've also nail down the methods for created CG robots.
And, it's likely, at least I hope so, that the designs will be simplified, more resembling Alternators/Citreonformers. Less pieces makes them easier to work with visually.
At Christmas, Transformers is unlikely to have to compete with anything else of note. Most blockbuster movies nowadays are concentrated in the summer. Merchandise-wise, they'll have wrapped it up. Hasbro are going to have a rather stale Christmas this year as the kids that wanted the toys and had the money will have bought them, those that didn't will probably have forgotten about them by then.
I'm hoping it will be more G1 based to better with in with the new animated cartoon. I'm hoping they work with Marvel to get characters like Circuit breaker back into it, too, and keep Simon Furman and Bob Budiansky close by.
So my guess is TF2 worldwide release by December '08. Hasbro will push for this too as it's more likely Bay won't be ready to do another Transformers film, here's hoping.

I highly doubt that they will revert to simpler designs for the sequel, and I really hope they don't. Changing the aesthetic of the movie universe would throw the common movie-goer off, and throw off the feel of continuity within the series. As for a Christmas 2008 release? I'd like to see it happen, but Bay's movies are better suited for Summer releases, so I think it will be more around Summer of 2009.

If they redesign the characters then that will mean more toys, and I think we have enough movie toys, I only think they should release new characters that appeared in the sequal.

YOU STOLE MY THUNDER!!! How UNCRAZAMATIC!!!
I agree with Sentinel Pax...changing the design is bad idea for anything connected to TF1. Continuity is important. We all saw what happen to the Batman's of the 90s. Putting the movie after Thankgiving is PERFECT!! Man would Hasbro rake in the doe!!! That was actually a good idea Sparky. It would be murder at the box office. I don't know if a Bay movie is better suited for a certain season or not. Once its out...its out. Xmas of 08 is too soon but Xmas of 09 is Perfert...Then they could release TF2 DVD in the summer and keep everyone from going to the movies that summer ha ha ha ha ha WOW!!! Blockbuster and Net flix would Pwn that summer!!
There is no excuse for TF3 to not be done properly!!!

They are NOT going to redesign them. That's just Sparky's lil thing. But can you imaging going to see TF2 with your cousins thats you only see in the holidays!!! Man that would be so throwback!!

I don't see why visual continuity is so much more important than overall visual appeal. The bots would be much more memorable if their designs were less messy. I even heard a guy on the radio who thought the Citreon Transformer "does a much better job of it".
Hasbro will push for more traditional designs because it's easier to make toys of them. Trying to capture the complex aesthetic into a toy ruined a lot of the figures(Jazz comes to mind), instead of concentrating on making them look good they had to make them look accurate, and failed even there on a few levels.
If it's directed by Bay and features the same designs as before, I won't be terribly interested in seeing it. I'll tolerate the same designs for Prime, BB and Jazz with some cleaning up, but not Ironhide or any of the Deceps.
There is no way in hell that Starscream and Megatron will turn up looking like they did in the first movie, that's for sure. They will probably make minor alternations to the other bots, too, and I can imagine they'll release deluxe Ironhide and Ratchet for those that can't afford the Voyagers(I know there's the FABs but Ratchet's sucked).

No way could they make a movie of this scale and have it released by xmas 2008. Besides that is a crappy time of the year to release a movie, and it just wouldnt make financial sense to release a movie of this kind during the holidays, not that its even possible to make such a large movie in such a small period of time anyway.
We are looking at a summer 2009 release at the earliest, but i wouldnt be surprised if we had to wait till 2010.
As for the designs they are perfect the way they are, so i hope they dont change them to be more G1-ish. You need to get over the fact that they arent going to make a G1 movie, and that those types of designs wont work on the big screen. More G1 inspired would be nice but the overall alien look of the bots will remain for realism's sake, and for visual appeal as well.

thoug that would be nice it's really pushing it. I doubt the studios could put a real quality product out till about 2009.

SO WHAT SPARKY. YOU DON'T HAVE TO SEE IT. THATS YOUR CHOICE. I REMEMBER ALL THE TRANSFORMERS OF TF1. THE DESIGNS WILL NOT CHANGE.

I second that it would be stupid to release new molds and wouldn't make ant sence. The only bots i can think of that might get a new bod are megs and jazz if he come back that's it.

I would hate it if they released it at Xmas time
I need every bit of money for presents and I have no time for movies
The smart bet is the summer movie season

That would be cool if they make another one however I really hope that they introduce some of the characters they left out probably for a reason etc.. Jetfire (He was my fav
) and also another thing is that I hope they turn down the special effects just a little bit as I couldn't really see much in the fight Battles with all the smoke, dust and Debris. All maybe I just need to invest in a HDTV. Transformers 1 got me on the edge of my seat so yea bring on Number 2.

I believe it will be released in the summer of 2009 for the 25th anniversary of the Transformers. It's also when BotCon is tentatively scheduled for 2009.

Summer 2009
I personally think the movie will be released in Summer 2009 as most filsm these days have sequels every 2 years. I just hope they have loads more robots in the next movie, and actually have some g1 style of robots having convo with each other as opposed to them all speaking with humans.
I wonder is they gonna do some headmaster/powermaster type stuff.
I mean they could do a whole thing with fig if he didn't die, as that scene was cut. and have him be a pair with a rebuilt Jazz or something. Kinda like symbiotic relationship where somehow the fragment of the all spark fuses with the life support machines and the remains of Jazz.
Both have independant personalities would be fun.

Eh.. I really think this series is better for the summer. It just suits it more. With everything else going on during the Xmas season I don't think it would work as well. But don't forget, the DVD is coming out in the Christmas season
