The Guitar Thread (again!): got my new guitar

Postby Sherade » Sun Nov 16, 2008 3:26 pm

So...is there much to say?
Let us know what you have, want, etc, just talk on the stuff.

Here's what I have, and the details:
First Guitar: 2003 Fender Starcaster "S2". Basically a Squier Strat. Infamously brittle whammy bar.

Second guitar: 1980 Electra Phoenix X-140S. Paid 20 bucks for it, woth at least 300. Lowest known serial number of it's kind.
My favorite.

Third: 2005 Mexi-Merican Fender Precision bass, weird purple/blue color shifting finish. Paid $225.

Fourth: 1940's Kamico "Jumbo Jazz" Archtop Acoustic. Paid 55, need to get rid of it, not really my thing. Though it'd be cool....but cannot afford to steam neck every month. Worth quite a bit.

Fifth: 1989 Mattell Synsonics Terminator. Built in amp, very fun little guy. 3/4 scale. Paid 30 bucks.

Amps: Fender SP-10 10 watt (came with Starcaster) and Marshall 15 Watt with long name. Getting Peavy bass amp for Christmas.

Pedals: Morlet "Bad Horsie" Wah, Boss Flanger BF-2, Ibanez Phaser PH-7, and Digitech Death Metal distortion.

So yeah.

How about bass guitars?

first one was stolen, but it was a johnson. I don't know much more than that.

My latest one is a Hamer Standard (looks like a Gibson explorer) and a Peavy TKO 300 amp

I've seen a Jhonson up at a local pawn shop. Forgot who owns them, although I want to say Ibanez(?). Either way, it's sad you lost your first one, but at least you got a better one!
It'd kill Me if someone took my P-bass. I really can't afford to go bigger than that..... :P
Got pics of the Hamer? Hear about them a lot, but never really seen them much around here.

I actually sold off my electrics to get through some financial tight spots.

so now i'm left with my Ibanez from a starter pack, an epiphone acoustic that was my grandfathers, and an Oscar Schmidt electric acoustic that was my fathers. The action on the last is so high it is damn near impossible to play-but i kept it for sentimental value.

Now that i'm through that financial crisis, i'm debating wheter i want to drop the cash to get a Gibson lp. I've been drooling over a silverburst lp down at my local guitar center for the better part of 3 years...but $2500 is quite a bit considering i'm no rockstar.

I've had over 30 different electrics and at least 15 $300 amps in all from back when I played and recorded. Now I'm down to one guitar and my main amp went kaput so I just have a practice amp. I miss my Mesa's and other stuff. Life happens. :-(

But I still have my Music Man John Petrucci signature model with customized silver autobot logo. (yeah, tossing vinyl decals on a $2200 guitar kills resale value, but that one was always my keeper) Someday I'd like to upgrade to the piezo model in olympic white and add some Jazz stripes with a red 'bot logo. Someday!

The one I really regret not having now is my reissue Japanese Fender Jazzmaster. That with the amp I currently have (when it's working anyway)would be killer blues/rock tone. There have been a few American reissues through the years, but the quality price ration on the Japanese ones was awesome. Tried the Mustang, Jaguar, and Jagstang but they just don't hold the same magic for me.

The sweetest axe I ever had was my 1959 Les Paul. Two original P90's. Best blues tone ever. I was given it by a teacher and I passed it along to someone I taught. Don't regret giving as it was given to me and it's being used for awesome now, but I do miss that tone.

My main effects now are a Boss Super Feedbacker and Crybaby 95Q, and my broken amp is a Music Man 50 watt tube amp, circa early to mid 70's. I still have a few Rockman half rack units for when I'm in a Boston style mood, but I like to keep my rig simple now. Back in the day I hauled a Mesa Road King with a 4x12 Marshall cab. Way more power than I needed, but man did it look cool. And 4 separate tube channels was heavenly.

Ah, Les Pauls....
I really, honestly, do not ever want one. EVER.
Honestly, the only Gibson's I like to the point of "I want them" are the T-Bird and Corvus.
Yeah, I said the Corvus. I'm that weird.

What I really want is an old P-Bass (slab body) and Telecaster.
Notl ike that will ever happen though. :P

You know what else is nice? PRS, not to mention non-SE models are made near me, here in Maryland.

I suppose this is yet another topic that you and i will be forced to disagree on

Unlike you, I really, honestly, do not ever want a Tele. Ever

I don't know why but they just do not appeal to me.

and the Corvus? Yes, yes you are weird for that.

lol, if all guitarists had a nickel for the les paul vs. tele/strat debate, we could all afford the gear we wanted!

I always liked G&L's over newer Fenders, since they were "real" Fenders. I wish I'd kept my Commanche with the z-coils longer though, since it was the last design Leo came up with. I probably didn't give it enough to time to get used to them.

I love G&L stuff. fender did great tihngs, didn't he?
Z-coils are just the coolest thing ever, if not for practicality than for looks. Just fun.

I understand why people may dislike the Tele, the slab body, "wiry" tone, and simple looks, but I adore it for all those reasons. It's the epitome of the electric guitar, in my eyes. Epitome, meaning, what is the core of all electrics. Not super fancy, not a peice o' crap, just that guitar.
Anyhow, I seem to be attracted to weird guitars.
I bought an old (really rare) Moridira Hurricane EXB-03 Bass Saturday, and I'm getting a 1979 Cort doubleneck (part bass, part 6-string guitar) tomorrow.
All this from, the guy who often falls asleep to Metallica.
(my favorite local station does a Mandatory Metallica block)

Now, how 'bout that fender Katana? :P

This thread is becoming useless without pics :P

seriously sherade, you seem to be getting quite the collection going and I would love to see some pics.

Not my style, but i've never been a fan of the flying V either.

If I had to go with an odd styled guitar, i do like the gibson zv. Combining the sg with the v really added what, IMHO, the v was missing.

I also like the looks of some of the B.C. Rich guitars, but i've never sat down and played one so i'm not sure if I would be interested in owning one.

I have a Silvertone by Samick.

Its a beginner's guitar. I got it a long time ago and just don't have the patience to learn.

I know BC Rich get a bad rap and everything, but my goal is to eventually have a Warlock and a Virgo. They are just gorgeous!

My friend has a Apocalypse guitar. Its a Paul Stanley signature model. Its so bad ass!

Every guitarist I've ever met says they're terrible and unreliable. Mick from Slipknot said that as well when he stopped using Warlocks. Then again, he had just signed a sponsorship deal with Ibanez so he could have been just saying that to get in their good graces.

I'm not going to list the guitarists I've met over the years. It would take to much time :P

For what its worth, I have never heard anything good about bcrich guitars.

They look good(speaking in terms of appearance alone), but i'm reserving final judgment until i actually sit down to play one.

Just make sure the one you try is not a Bronze Series: as in, starter guitar.
