The origin of Alice the "Pretender"
I LOVED Transformers ROTF. Seen it twice and liked it better the second time. Really the only character I had a problem with was Alice. She was hot, no doubt, but whats the deal with a Transformer being in human form? I thought they were supposed to be mechanical?
Is there a back story to this character or type of transformer?

Re: The origin of Alice the "Pretender"
Ok, I did a wiki search on this and evidently the Decepticon Pretender has a backstory that actually is rather interesting. They use a "synthetic organic outer shell". So this isn't a thing that Bay just inserted randomly, this is actually a part of the Transformers universe. Appears Bay really did some digging and research in the world of Transformers! I have no problem with this character now, although I do hope the Pretenders don't become very common in future Transformers movies as it might confuse people who don't do their research. They're initial reaction might be of confusion like mine was because these are supposed to be mechanical beings.

LOL, yah yah - I know. I just didn't want it to be a cheap gimmick to put a hot chic in the movie.
I will say this - I actually thought she was hotter than Megan Fox.

I'm just glad that, of all the various portrayals of the Pretenders in fiction, the ones she's closest in resemblence to are the Autobot Pretenders from Masterforce. The only differences are that she's a Decepticon and she's already human-sized.

Re: The origin of Alice the "Pretender"
I understood the literal, external origin of Pretenders in the TF Universe (I had a bunch of them as a kid)...But that was one of my major complaints with ROTF is that in the MOVIE there was NO explanation given for Alice's existence...She just shows up and does her thing and then everyone gets over it pretty quick and it's never mentioned again...
Seems like that is something the humans and autobots would have been WAY more interested in learning more about since she seems to have been th only one...

I like the origin for her they presented in the novelization. Basically, she scanned a Disney animatronic character...Alice =D

As already stated, there's a scene in the novelization and comic adaptation that shoes Leo watching a commercial for an Alice in Wonderland attraction, and he reconizes that Alice in the commercial as looking exactly like Alice the robot. I think he kinda mentions this when walking in on the three of them, leading me to suspect that this might be a deleted scene.

That should have been in the movie...But that STILL doesn't in ANY way explain how a transformer could have generated realistic organic skin...There's a far cry of difference between an animatronic mannequin and a human being...Enough that Sam would have probably noticed the moment he touched her...

Didn't she seem a little old to be Alice in Wonderland robot?
And dosn't the whole idea seem like something from Terminator? (Just my thoughts)

even though the girl was hot, this is one part of the story i would throw out. Just don't fit in properly -too terminator-esque. Too much of a stretch - just Bay's way of throwin in more gratuitous sex/chicks.

I liked Alice because of the nod to G1 Pretenders. And if that backstory doesn't fly with you, just think of her like BW characters, able to scan organic alt modes.

It was kinda weird seeing Isabel Lucas in a big movie like Revenge of the Fallen, given I was used to seeing her in Home & Away.
Still hawt though!

I was happy they added in that element...But as with half the other stuff in the movie, some form of explanation or depth would have been nice...

alright -it has it's origin. Nuff said. The real issue at hand with the whole movie, and I'm sure this has been discussed in many threads is that the movie was rushed. How much better would it have been if they took another year? at least 3-5x better I'd say. Damn greedy studios don't care about quality or 'doing it right' at all. They knew no matter how bad it was it'd make boatloads of money & it is doing just that. They really shouldn't have rushed it at all. SW - 3 yr. gap each time. Matrix -4 yr. gap between the first, Batman & TDK - 3 yrs., etc. etc. These movies would've suffered if they were rushed too. Bay was editing this SOB up until it had to be shipped to Japan for the premiere --& he would've kept going till the night of 6/21 for the US premier the following Mon. if he could. You have this many stunts, effects, and robots -to get out by a certain time, something's gonna suffer. Unfortunately for us, it was the story. Super rushed script b/c of the writers' strike.

Re: The origin of Alice the "Pretender"
So you're saying that if they took more time on the whole movie, another year or two, this would have been better explained?
Bah, I've said it before, but I'll say it again...Alice was originally supposed to be in Terminator Salvation as an attempt at improving the series overall. But oh no, that didn't get through for some reason! So they just passed her onto the Transformers universe for whatever other reason.
In simplest terms, it was Oops Wrong Movie Syndrome.
Origin explained and plot hole filled! Whoopee...Seems my work here is done, chaps.
God, I'm such a whore. Or a limp dick. Take your pick.

They may have decided to leave the scene from the book out because the book mentions that Honda partnered with Disney to help create the attraction. Also in the book, when Alice glomps Sam, Sam looks right between her collar-bone and notices a little gleaming object seemingly embedded in her flesh and says, "Is that a Honda logo?"

not her story in particular. I was going off on a tangent sort of. I am pissed that they rushed everything though.
