The vicious circle of Alternator head swapping update w/pics

Postby alhaw » Fri Mar 30, 2007 6:17 pm

I haven't posted anything in a while so I thought I'd show you a sample of some alternator repaints and minor kitbashes I've done lately. I didn't want to have start a new post for each one so I thought I'd set out the process of how I decide which character to do next.

Who's head fits where.

I bought a Classics Megs with a view to repainting it but then I saw pics of the Masterpiece Megs and decided the Classic one wasn't worth working on so I stole his head to make an Alternator Megs. I also put a flashing LED in his scope/gun.

Then I used streak's head with deadend's bod to make Starsceam....

Image

Image

then I used deadend's head with rollbar's boby to make Tantrum...

Image

Image

...then rollbar's head with nemi prime's body to make Trailbreaker...

Image

Image

Image

then nemi prime's head with sideswipe's body to make Runabout (my personal fav)...

then sideswipe's head with prowl's body to make red alert...

... now prowl's head is a WIP...

...well, crap. Every single one of those is awesome. Even the Starscream. And I usually loathe the idea of an Alt. Starscream. Great job, man!

That Inferno looks pretty sweet. Any chance of seeing some alt mode pics of it.

Those all turned out really nice. Meg's head works really well on streak.

What model did you use for Trailbreaker's bed cover, is that from a 4runner?

Thanks guys.

I posted Inferno ages ago as a work in progress and I still haven't finished him. You can find the post in this forum somewhere.

The bed cover for trailbreaker is from a really crap toy, I think it was a mercedes 4WD. I cut this section off and it almost clipped on to trailbreaker like it was made for it. Putting the windows back in changed it's shape slightly but it still fits pretty well. Gives him plenty of weapon storage too.

Yeah, I saw that thread when you first began working on it, but there weren't any vehicle mode pics, at least none that are late-stage work with a recognizable fire truck mode.

That's brilliant stuff; Megatron's especially impressive, and I love the Trailbreaker bed; converting it into a weapon mount is a masterstroke. Ratchet's head is shaping up really nicely.

So is Ratchet going to transform into a gun now, or are there more unsuspecting victims lined up for the circle?

Ok I've started on Ratchet from Skids body (and buggered up the paint job already, but anything can be fixed) and this has left me with a Skids head. I was going to do an Ironhide but I wan't to use the Skids body for that too, so it doesn't form part of the circle.

I want to keep the circle going, so my question to you Transtopians is where can my spare skids head go?

I know it's been a while since my last post on this subject, but it's not over yet! I seriously stuffed the paint job on Ratchet (and I was so close to being finished) and now I basically want to strip it back and start again.

That might take a while so I'm moving on (I will come back to it).

The next step is where skids head goes and I think I have the answer. I'm expecting some reprolabels to arrive tonight and if so I'll be done tomorrow and will post the pics.

Anyone want to have a stab at what it'll be?

Stick it on a vette and do reflector maybe? Astrotrain or Perceptor are the other ideas I'd have, but not sure which cars I would use...

Those are some awsome customs. Some really cool head swapping. I think Trailbreaker is my favorite of the ones you have shown. Your, Inferno, is that the one we were all discussing awhile back, regarding scale of the ladder you had it displayed with? Your Runabout is really cool too. I was debating Runabout and Runamuck When I was playing around with some ideas with my Sideswipe. Now that I've seen a finished version, it really makes me want to try it. Thanks!

Alright!!! Reprolabels finally turned up and I've completed the next head swap. A little paint on the hood, head, and crotch and some minor head mods then some nice new reprolabels and we have....

Sludge!

That looks awesome. Just seems a little odd seeing Sludge as an emergency vehicle, though. Are you rewriting his backstory so he runs around sorting out Slag's messes?

What's the little square sticker on his roof?

I know it's a bit odd, but I liked it for the colours, plus it gave me a good excuse to paint his hood red.

The little sticker on the roof is a logo the same as the large ones on the doors. It came with the set and I didn't know where to stick it.

If anyone is interested I'm thinking of selling some of my Alt customs including the ones shown above. I need money more than I need transformers at the moment (usually it's the other way around). Let me know if anyone is interested.

I'd've thought the extra logo would look cool on the bonnet, at the front edge of that central strip where the head comes up.

So... Grimlock's head?

Yeah.... Grimlocks head.... ? .... ?!

Any ideas? Anyone? Anyone?

Or does anyone need one. It might help me break the circle.
