wee need a chatroom for this site! i dunno if it has one i havent seen it but we need so we can annoy eachother without having to wait, does anyone know how to make chatrooms? would anyone else be down for that?

an official chatbox could be a mixed blessing.

the potential fun vs thhe probability of spamtard flamewar the likes of which this site hasn't seen sine the golden ages of seibertron.

also i don't think it would fit in with Ryans master plan or vision for this site. i could be totally wrong, but i think if he wanted one he would add it.

however there is nothing stopping (yet) us from talking in here

I am down with it, as long as there are no rules. I mean, if a flamewar erupts, we should be able to defend ourselves without retaliation from mods. But, I doubt Ryan would go for it. A shoutbox would be halfway there.

ahhh no. A chatroom would be subject to the same forum rules and would be moderated the same. To do so otherwise would allow people to openly attack people in the chatroom that they may not do so on the forums. Bound to cause problems.

Same can be said for the shoutbox. N_V hit the nail on the head, I really can't see people not flooding it with idiotic pointless posts.

We already have the "Ladies" thread for that.

Yeah... uh... if I want to talk to my close Seibertronian friends, then they can do so by adding me on MSN, which several have already done so. The whole problem of having a Chatroom, especially a Shoutbox, is that we need constant moderation of it. Not all the mods are exactly up to it, as well as the long term commitment.

And really, how is the chatroom any different than the forums when it applies to TF fans? Are you going to have constant chatter about how you're opening up the box of Voyager Ironhide? I think the idea is terrible as the chatroom brings nothing that a forum can do. I've been in chatrooms with other fandoms, and I know the problems that can occur. Spammers, flame wars, even site wars are bound to irrupt with the amount of competition we have with TFW and others. Stick to forums where we can have intelligent, multi-line conversations, cause the vibe I'm getting from all of this is that many of you supporting this aren't going to be talking about TFs, you just want the chatroom to be a brothel of spam. Stick to MSN, Skype, whatever. And in all honesty, not going to knack on the community here, but that chatroom is going to be dead most of the time.

I don't really see any point in having a chat room; it you have someone you want to talk quickly with, just use the personal messaging system the board has. On the outside, the idea has promise and could possibly be enjoyable, but I can also see where it would cause problems.

A shoutbox would be more manageable and would probably be used a lot more than a chatroom would, but I can see spam and possible flaming being a problem to moderate. In the end, I can't really see the end result justifying the means used to have it there unless it were intended as an unmoderated free-for-all. This in itself could cause problems but would probably be more fun as well

In the end, I'm partial to each idea.

A chat room would be cool, but i get the feeling it would be flooded with idiotic flame wars and childish bickering... i like the current system of add friends or foes on your profile then if you want to chat PM to there msn or similar.

at this pioint we could almost just take the last 20 pages of so of the ladies thread and slap the title "chatterbox" on it. but if we removed the male element form the ladies thread i think it would slip off the first page. besides, it confuses people that mostly guys post there. it grosses out and disturbes a whole lot more tho
