He's in the honourable mentions since I do love that toy (Legends Gelshark). I wasnt gonna have 2 sharks on the list ( that gives me an idea for a top 5 sharks list) and I do feel Cybershark is better for how much he accomplishes. He also has better hands

Yeah, I feel the same about his legs. It's just pieces of the ship in half. Still makes a great alt mode though, hence why I used him for the cover Actually, now that I think of it, his legs remind me of a new Water themed TF that was just released, High Tide:

Did you know he was initially made by Takara to be a Microman Playset? Thats why he is so different from everything else.

I'm so glad to see Undertow on here! I remember finding him in the Clearance section of a TRU that was closing down, hidden behind a bunch of First Edition Bumblebees, and while I was on the fence about getting him at first, he shortly became my favourite PCC figure!

It's a pretty easy transformation, but the altmode is good...... BW Manta Ray. Besides Scylla, she's the only other female TF with an aquatic beast mode.

Also, why would you pick RID Sky-Byte over TM2 Cybershark, do you prefer the deco on Sky-Byte? I had that mold and much preferred the update Takara did with Gelshark, who is in my honorable mentions. They found an awesome way to take care of his big shell and have both robot and shark mode looking like sleek deadly killers. Plus, the update makes his chest actually be the shark head, I found that pretty incredible.

It was the only one I had. I never had TM2 Cybershark, and didn't pick up the Generations update. I really didn't like the look of the chest being the shark head. With Sky-Byte, I went strictly on the alt mode, as that is the actual water-themed mode. The only thing I like on the robot mode is the face and the mohawk. Plus, his characterization in Car Robots is actually pretty cool and serious, instead of the buffoon he is portrayed as in Robots in Disguise.

That thing looks like the bastard love child of a quintesson and an octorok. I love it.

BW TMII Rampage is a pretty incredible toy. Triple changer – crab to tank to robot. Powerful, intimidating, bright. Interesting, not a boat or water craft, not a sub, a crab/tank. Crab underwater yes. Depth charge has great transportation.


Energon Dreadwing is a real nice repaint of Mirage. The colors on the figure give a real smooth look.


Energon Sharkticon is awesome. Thanks for the info on Undertow. I may pick him up some day. Sea Spray and Depth Charge are great toys!

I also liked the G1 Micromaster blue boat and the two bots that combine to turn into a hovercraft. Great alt modes.

They are the quintessential water / sea based transformers, and while the combined mode is not the greatest, the individual beats modes are list worthy specially Lobclaw (Nautilator) and Kraken (Seawing).

Those are some good looking G1 alt modes. Great water themed toys. The Seacons are very cool. Updated seacons will be fun.

Fair point about Rampage being a land/shore creature. That is tricky. Some crabs never go above the surface, so do like half and half, and there are a very few crabs that almost never go in water.

I agree with WJ, Tidal Wave looks like a spaceship. In fact he reminds me of a Star Destroyer.

I respect WJ’s choice for #1. The face, the articulation in bot mode, the beast mode and more are all excellent, just not my cup of tea. I think if I had him I would like him even more.


Here is my list:

1. BW TM Depth Charge
2. BW Rampage - A crab is a submersible walker. Are we talking swimmer/water vehicle or or we including any submersible vehicle/animal? So, when considered water based Rampage is awesomely amazing and comes in at #2 for me. If we consider him a walker that can go under water, and the list is purely boats, submarines, or swimming animals then I would take him off.
3. Energon Dreadwing He looks wicked and powerful.
4. HFTD Sea Spray
5. Energon Sharticon

6. Seacons
7. Cybershark
8. Clawjaw


I like Undertow, I don’t have the toy so I’m not super excited about him. If I had him I bet I would like him even more and he might make my list.

Don’t forget:
BW Neo (I think) Nautilus. Super shell former, but unique choice for an alt mode.
