Transformer memories

Postby shortround » Fri Mar 02, 2007 5:02 am

After final getting reissue soundwave. I remember why I love him so much because he was the very first transformer I ever got my mom asked what do want for christmas I told point blank I want soundwave. She asked are sure you don't want one of the others. I said no I want soundwave. So christmas rolled around and The first package I opened was soundwave I spent the next two weeks studing his tech specs useing the red piece of plastic so much I swear that everything was red. I also got optimus prime that year from my grandma but he didn't give me as much of a thrill as soundwave.

So here is my question what is your most fond transformer memory be it a getting a toy seeing episode for the first time going to the orignal move it doesn't matter I would love to know what started your life long love for transformers.

Dude mine is damn near the same as yours. I'm lucky I have a lil bro 18 mo younger than me that christmas back in 84 I got that Soundwave still do in good shape and Rog got Prime. We also got mirage(broke in half after a week)sunstreaker starscream and skywarp that was the best christmas of all time. Soundwave was my favorite transformer befor I even had a toy he was my defacto leader cause I never got megatron. I also opened him first and it is absolutley the best gift ever.

For my 9th birthday I got Ultra Magnus. My birthday fell on a school day but I got to open one gift from my mom in the morning before the party after school.
I couldn't believe how awesome he was. I spent the whole school day thinking about him. Him and Sunstreaker were my two faves and were always two guys that I used. I played with other Transformers of course but one of those two were always in the group.

I still have Magnus (and Streaker) and all his parts. I was always careful with my toys but he's pretty worn from all the love he got. Even though I recently got back into TF's, Magnus has always been sitting within eye sight somewhere in his robot form.
Just YESTERDAY I transformed him into his truck mode for the first time in a LONG time, like since early 90's! The trailer was a bit tough to transform as sliding the arms out was stiff as hell from sitting for so long but I managed it. He's currently sitting atop the DVD player looking all sweet.

Unfortuneatley the Magnus I got was one of the ghetto ones. Almost no paint, plastic wheels and no windshield. I had no idea when I got him that he was the budget version but a year or two later I got into model building so I now had some paint and got the idea of improving good ol' Magnus.
Blue head, blue fists, blue upper thighs, blue gas tanks yellow eyes and a bunch of silver paint on the big robot helmet in just the right spots. I also used some yellow moddeling clay for the helmets eyes. I just rolled two balls of it and jammed it in from within the helmet so it squished out. To this day those eyes still look great.

As for the missing windshield I got some of this mirrored plastic that my brothers Micro Machines came with, (the cars were displayed on it in the bubble) cut and glued it into the inside cab. Ultra Magnus was now looking all kinds of dope with his new paint apps and mirrored windows. TIGHT. AS. HELL.

I was thinking of totally restoring him but I decided that I like him the way he is. I did all that when I was a kid and it brings back all kinds of memories. I mean, I'm never going to be 10 again right?
Geeze, I really miss those days. I feel very fortuneate to have the childhood I did.

My most fond memory was at the height of my collection when I was young, the toy room floor was covering in an epic battle of Autobots Vs. Decpticons, and I'd focus on small skirmishes and move all about the room making sure everyone got a piece of the action. Ahh to be young again...

The time my Jazz has his roof broken I was distraught, but mum came to the rescue and glued it back on, as good as new it was, very strong glue, so strong that my mother had to go to the hospital to get her fingers unstuck, Jazz was fine however.

Last but not least my family and I had to fly to another town for a reason I cant remember (medical I think) anyway in a small plane, one of those ones that seat 5 inc the pilot, I was nervous, I had the red Aerial Bot (Firefight?) with my to keep my occupied.
He definitely served his purpose after the door of the plane opened a little bit in air (and I mean a little bit) but that didn't stop me from freaking out, luckily I had that Aerial Bot to keep me occupied, I remember looking at him the rest of the flight and trying not to look at the slightly open door, he prevented me from having a panic attack.

Winning Micromaster Countdown in the UK comic competition.

Getting a load of Actionmasters and Combining figures (completing Menasor, Bruticus and Defensor)in a short period of time. Culminating with AM Prime that Christmas. Yes I had Megatron Shockwave and Soundwave too.

Running to my friend's next door, to show him the revelation in TF UK 83 that Galvatron was Megatron from the future. No media, comic, TV or film has ever left me so awestruck since. Ah, to be 10 again.

Starting to collect the UK comic at issue 79, when Target 2006 was just beginning.

When my friends, brothers and cousins grew out of Transformers and I inherited their collections. I ended up with over 200.

My most fond memory was getting my very first Transformer. Hell, I hadn'nt even heard of Transformers or new they existed when my Mom got me Gears and my brother Cliffjumper. But after getting Gears it just took off from there. All my other toys except for GI Joe became unimportant compared to Transformers. :P

I got Megatron for a straight A report card. He was my first, followed shortly by Thundercracker. I had five decepticons before I even got my first autobots for X-mas, which were Jetfire, Prime, and Grimlock.

My family was rather poor when my age was in single digits, but I eventually saved up sufficient funds for the G2 Dreadwing/Smokescreen double pack in second grade.

Dreadwing was nifty, notably the minigun, but Smokescreen was incredible, with a high degree of articulation and stylish dual-wielding action, as well as one of the most appropriate color schemes of any TF from G2, which is saying very little.

When we we kids my brother and I would sometimes get a lottery scratch ticket from our grandmother or mom. One time when my little brother and mom came back from the mall they surprised me with a gift...BLASTER!! WOW!! Totally unexpected. My brother had got a TF too, Hun-Grr!
Mixed emotions as I was excited and confused as to what was going on.
I mean I got a lot of cool stuff as a kid but it usually wasn't random. My brother quickly explanied that he had won $50 on a scratch and had used it to by us some Transformers!
That was a cool day my amigos. B-)

Motto: "A good head and a good heart are always a formidable combination."
Weapon: Sniper Rifle
I loved my toys a lot, but I really loved to look at the product catalogs that came with them. They gave me more to dream about...

I also loved using the Sears catalog to make Christmas lists that were filled with TFs, Joes, Star Wars, etc. My favorite memory is that I had such a happy, fun childhood. My mom sacrificed so much so that we could have wonderful birthdays and Christmases. We never went wanting, and she worked really hard at two or three jobs to make sure we were taken care of.

I have all my old G1's and my first few are definitely worn. Starscream was my first, and I put tape over his stickers to keep them from coming off. The tape and stickers are still there, albeit the tape is yellow and worn now, but he is still complete. My Prowl is in so so condition too. His hood is broken, and he's a little dirty. My dinobots definitely show their age/love as well...Snarl and Sludge are good, but a bit dirty.

My aunt also spoiled us and I have all the TFs we got from her when we'd go and spend a weekend at her place.

Loved those product catalogs...

When I was six, my mom won a scratch-off ticket (still plays them, for some reason) and she let me and my brother pick something out that day. Well, I saw a Rattrap toy and loved it. And, that's how this expensive obsession started. I still want an original Rattrap figure, so if anyone has one they'll get rid of please p.m/e-mail me.

One christmas years ago, whenever someone would ask what I wanted the answer was always "GALVATRON!" Megatron was / is my favorite Decepticon but I never owned the toy. With Galvatron I had a chance to have a Megatron. You know how when you were a kid when there was something you liked it was perfect? To me at the time Galvatron was flawless perfection. I loved him.

My family has christmas dinner on christmas eve and on that evening we open gifts that are not from imidiate family (mom, dad, brother, sister or "Santa"). That is to say we DO open gifts that are from other members of the family who are at the dinner that night.
So that evening I did in fact get Galvatron from my grandmother. So Awesome. I spent the rest of the night going around spouting the virtues of Galvatron and showing his awesome transforming ability and acting shocked when all the person could say was "that's nice." "Galvatron isn't nice.." I would reply, "He RULES!".

Also, because Galvatron was so big, I remember having Optimus Prime borrow Ultra Magnus' trailer armour to even the odds when they battled.

Another fond memory is that of a wall in my old bedroom. This wall was plastered with Transformer stuff. The coolest things I had on this wall were the cut out box arts from all the TF's me and my brother ever received (well almost). When I turned 13 or 14 I decided it was time to take all the stuff down. I wasn't really into toys anymore. I still liked all my toys but didn't see them in the same light as before. It was time to move on.

I carefully took all the cut outs and other TF stuff down and put them in a box where I also kept all the tech specs, catalogues and instructions for all our TF's. A few days after doing this I noticed the box was missing. It had been sitting on my desk but had disappeared. I asked my mom if she knew where it was and she replied with "Oh you were saving that stuff? I'm sorry honey but I thought it was trash and threw it out." GAHHHH!! Needless to say I was quite pissed for a few days but I totally got over it as I had moved on from toys and had other things on my mind.

That may sound like a bad memory but it's not really. The memory is my TF wall that I had and adored for years. When I close my eyes I still can see it with all the carefully cut out transformers flying around. Still, that box of stuff would be amazing for me to go through today. AMAZING.

Well, I guess mine is kinda odd consdiering the character involved.

I grew up in Pakistan. Transformers did not show on TV. I stumbled onto the show by accident when renting videos and was hooked. Unfortunately, the exchange rate was not conducive to kids there owning US made toys. That is if you were lucky enough to find one.

My first Transformer ever was Mixmaster, 400 paki bucks! Considering that people earn the same amount there as here, numerically, it would be like a $400 Transformer here. Crazyness. Anyway, so we were kinda limited to realy special presents, and the very basic cheap toys. i.e. Combiners.

That is, until the summer of 1989. My parents decided to go visit my grandparents in Angola, Indiana after 5 years of not haviong been here. Now the exchange rate made shopping here a little prohibitive, as one US dollar was like 40 paki ruppees. However, I got to buy a bunch of minis, a couple of mini stations, some combiners. You know, the cheaper stuff.

And then, before we left, I saw my first Prime toy ever! Powermaster Optimus. Dudes, I freakin begged. BEGGED!!!!

However, $30 I think it was, was more than my mom was willing to spend. So, I begged on the ride home, I begged at home, I prayed everyday, well, begged some more.

Then the day we were leaving to return, on the way to the airport, we stopped at Toys R Us and....woohoo!

Must have been my fave toy ever. My moms still talks about it. I was the only kid I knew of with a Prime of any variety and everyone was green with envy. Prime, a base, huge prime, all in one. Good stuff.

Well, unfortunately, I only had hime for like 6 months-a year. A kid in class borrowed it and freakin changed schools b4 returning it. All I got in return was a couple of freakin combiners.

Well, another Powermaster Prime is in the mail to me right now, finally almost 2 decades later thanks to the trading forum here. He is headless but I'm sure ebay will remedy that.

Now to get a Resissue MISB and I can lay that old ghost to rest. Powermaster Prime is soon to be sitting on my medside table again......where he belongs.

P.S. Yes, I know, not one of the most impressive primes ever, but, for a id in Pakistan who had a Megatron cut from paper and colored with crayons, it was the best toy EVER!

P.P.S. I think I'll buy my moms one for xmas. Return the favor ya know/

Transformer memories

Postby Repair Bay » Fri Mar 09, 2007 12:42 am

ahhh....

i can still see it. the Christmas of '94. I rushed for those gifts like a marathon runner. There it was. It was small, but somehow it felt fit to be the first one i opened. As i tore open the wrapping paper, my eyes lit up. It was the G2 blue Grimlock! My very first Transformer. now i knew that my older brothers used to collect them when i was little, and i loved the Generation 2 cartoon, but to own a Transformer of my very own made me feel so warm inside.

I still have that Grimlock today, albeit worn, but no less, i keep it safe and always somewhere close. Those were the good old days...
