I'm NOT ok with pure repaints. Especially for those who should not have been siamese twins. I prefer repaints with some resculpt. CJ is one example. To be an accurate CJ, you have to change the hood, and rear and the head. But i'm not too demanding. If only Hasbro did resculpt just the head, then i'll be satisfied.

For the seekers, Ramjet is a step in the right direction. I love the way he was modified from the Starscream mold. Thrust should be ok too, because you really have to change his wings. As for Thundercracker and Skywarp, they are exceptions, because both were exact twin of Starscream in the cartoons.

Prowl, Bluestreak, Smokescreen. Bluestreak is the only pure stock car. Prowl has the sirens. Smokescreen has the skirts and spoilers. So i hope if they do these guys, they don't just repaint the exact mould without any modifications.

Sideswipe and Sunstreaker have the same alt mode. That's ok. But DON'T make the mistake of giving them the same face and the same transformation. They're very far apart in terms of robot design.

Get the idea?

I'm not starting a new religion to preach repaints are bad. But do it properly. It does not cost much to do minor modifications. As what was done to Ramjet.

CJ's is a case of extreme cost cutting, to squeeze every drop of juice out of BB's mould.

So, just for clarity here, you would be alright with a repaint as long as there has been some modification to the mold then? I'm only asking. Like if Sideswipe and Sunstreaker were the same basic mold but had been altered to show that they are two separate beings and not just different colors, becuase BB and CJ were the same thing except for color and head sculpt. In that case, I can and do agree with you.

Yeah. Something like that.

But for Sideswipe and Sunstreaker case, they will have to do more than small modifications. Because these 2 characters have completely different bots. Not just he face. One transforms with the hood going to the chest. The other has the hood split into his feet.

As Hasbro have already said they're going to use the same mould, but it'll have different heads and two ways of transforming the chest, is there much point to whining that they should be using two different moulds? Hell, I'm just happy the twins are finally getting updated. And as something that looks like a Lambo as well!

Yeah. Nothing we can do about it.

At least, there's different heads and chest transformation sequence.

Better than pure repaint only.

It was also likely that Hasbro wanted to give us a character that we love and seeing as how close CJ is to BB, figured that _some_ CJ was better than _no_ CJ at all.

I for one would love to see a repaint of Movie Long-Arm as Classics Hoist. That mold is awesome and fits Hoist to a "t".

As for the "Fairlady Z" brothers, I'm fine with the same basic mold for all three, so long as Prowl is a police car. If they could so some minor changes to make Smokes different than Streak, I'm all for it - but again a straight repaint, G1 accurate version of these characters is preferable to none at all. JMHO :D

I think it cost more to modify Starscream into Ramjet. Head/helmet, face, wings, and weapons. But they still did it nicely.

So there's really no justification why they couldn't have done just a fraction of all that to CJ.

CJ being a much bigger character than Ramjet.

true. that's why i see no reason to get CJ at all - one of the laziest releases ever done by Hasbro.

Dagon wrote:People have said it before, but as a fanbase we never seem to have a problem with the repaints that populate the G1 toyverse. We have 6 jets that are the same thing barring color and three with different wings. Prowl/Bluestreak/Smokescreen and Ironhide/Ratchet and Hoist/Trailbreaker and Grapple/Inferno and Rumble/Frenzy and on and on and on. G1 toys before the animated movie was populated by repaints. And then who doe people want to see released in the Classics/Universe line? Prowl/Smokescreen/Bluestreak and Ironhide/Ratchet and Rumble/Frenzy and Huffer/Pipes and........

The world is much simpler back then in the 80s. And most of us are kids. Some not even born yet.

So repaints are quite ok during that time. When toys are not as abundant as the modern times.

But this is the new millenium. There's so much advancement in everything. Why settle for repaints?

If we as a fandom don't want to settle for repaints, why do we fill threads like this with hopes for Classics figures that will invariably be repaints? I'm just saying, is all. People hate the repaint parade but then they want Prowl and Smokescreen and a full set of classic seekers.

I don't think the simplicity or birthdates really factors into this. I was born in 1978, but I like the music from the 60s.

By the way, please don't misunderstand me here. I too am rabidly looking forward to the new Universe line, and I love new molds more than repaints, and I do happen to like repaints when they appeal to me. I'm just pointing this out. I'm not anti-Classics or new molds in any capacity. I'm stoked like hell that Galvatron will be a new figure and not a repaint, but I might buy a repainted Classics Megatron named Galvatron because I like the Classics Megatron figure.

I'm good with repaints, as long as it's G1 characters!
Plus yes, they really need to be remoulded, if only slightly.

Let's hope there will not be a repeat of the CJ type of fiasco in Classics 2.0

Personally I like CJ, but yeah I would of liked a different head for him and not have him look like BB's twin. The only reason I got him though was because I really liked that mold and couldn't find BB anywhere and CJ was in abundance. Now I got both

But in Classics 2.0 I don't mind repaints along the lines of the ones their planning for Sunstreaker and Sideswipe, since their supposed to be twins. As for other repaints I expect it for guys like Prowl, Bluestreak since their the exact same type of vehicle. What I would like to see them do is to give them different features in bot mode. But in the end if they just do straight repaints I'm likely to still get them if I like the mold.

I wonder if they'd re-release the 10th anniv. BeastWars chars in the Universe line? Probably not but it would be really awesome and pro.

I think that should be a different series. This new Universe line is a continuation of the Classics series. Which means, characters and designs from G1 cartoon.
