Transformers: Dreamwave

Postby Grimlock Magnus » Sat Aug 28, 2010 5:38 pm

So, I was reading through various articles today on TFWiki (wonderful site...thanks to all who contribue) when I read the following statement: "however, due to Dreamwave's bankruptcy, this story was never completed". Annoying. I click to another article, start reading, and low and behold, I read that statement again. Frustrating. New article, same line... :BOOM:

I know this has problably been discussed before, but I just got to say it. We got robbed. I love everything IDW has done with the franchise, reboot and all. The full cloak & dagger-esque feel was something totally different and took us for a ride as a fandom. But a part of my part will always love Dreamwave and what they were doing.

I would love to see IDW take up the helm to resolve these stories. Get the info from guys like Furman on what was supposed to happen and finish them. Complete the third War Within. Wrap up the ongoing with in a couple arcs. Show how Grimlock came back after taking that blast for Ultra Kagnus. What happened to Fort Max after he walked away from the battlefield in Micromasters #4. Hell, please finish Transformers Energon.

I know the storylines were drawn out because I read what was supposed to happen on the TFWiki. Come on Hasbro, please do this. We fans were buying it, don't leave us in purgatory just because of Pat Lee's blundering.

I'd love to get some feedback. If you think I'm full of, tell me. I'm a big boy, I can take it. If you agree, lets start voicing this.

I do blame Mr. Lee. However, Hasbro owns it all. One would merely have gaze upon the comic sales sheets. The fadom was buying despite the money being wasted by patsy. Come on hasbro, money in the bank!

Yeah, even Furman hates his guts:

"Apparently, if Pat Lee wants back in Transformers, he will have to climb over Simon's cold, rotting corpse to do it."

I think you'll find Hasbro doesn't have much involvement in the comics.

IDW pay a licensing fee to Hasbro, as did Dreamwave. And I think at the end of the day they just get the yay or nay from Hasbro which is about the extent of Hasbro's involvement.

And IDW probably can't resolve those storylines due to the licensing issue. Sure, Furman may have worked for both companies but i'm sure there's some legal complication that ties him from finishing things off.

Okay, so, kill pat lee and give roger a small cut of the profits. Legal solved. Realistically, for every rule, there's a loop hole. Chewbacca defense? Anyone?

Alas, things will never be finished "officially". As was said, some legal mumbo jumbo I don't know anything about, and to be honest, since IDW's got the reigns now, there probably isn't a whole lot of interest to finish things up outside of the fan community.

Which brings me up to my next point: don't underestimate the fans. This thread reminded me of an idea I had: Have an "Event" very similar to Transformers: Mosaic(maybe the Mosaic guys would even go along with it), and have short "Epilogue's" for the Dreamwave-verse.

Each "chapter" would focus on a specific character that had a dangling plot thread, i.g. Bumblebee, Optimus Prime, Sky Lynx, Shockwave, etc, and be one page long, though maybe more if so desired. Once every piece was assembled, it would be like a puzzle coming together, and you'd then have at least a decent "ending".

Anyway, it's just a crazy idea, and is free to be ignored if so desired. If anyone wants to persue the idea though, I'd be happy to help out as a writer, and maybe an editor putting things together.

I like the idea too. Wish I had the artistic talent to make it happen. Anyone out there...

Simon Furman actually sells the War Within scrips which did not get released, that's why we know that the Grimlock seen on earth was made from a seeker clone.

Furman also intended to finish the Energon story via flash backs in the Cybertron ongoing series he pitched to idw when they got the comic licence. But idw never made that or the original comic pitch for the G1 comic.

Grimlock was remade from a seeker clone? See, this is what I'm talking about people. Curse you overly complex legal system that keeps my transformer hopes and dreams dead...CURSE YOU!

Where did you find that out?

At Auto Assembly 2 weeks ago, I think KaelPrime of youtube fame bought one of the scripts, I think it was issue 3. I didn't bother with the scripts since I never had the Wart Within volume 3 series, well he was talking to Chris McFeely about it and said that the final page of the comic would of had Shockwave entering his lab, when suddenly one of the Seeker clones in the CR chambers started to morph into Grimlock, with a few seeker parts left over since he would still be in the process of changing, and proclaiming "Me Grimlock, function!" or something to that extent.
This was meant to explain why the Grimlock in War Within was smart while the one in the present was as stupid as the cartoon version, the idea was that WW Grimlock gets killed with this clone thing replacing him.

I'm starting to regret not buying the scripts now.

Not trying to be rude dude, but that sounds like bullcrap. First of all, WW3 printed three issues. So, that couldn't have been the script from issue 3. Also, The dreamwave Grimlock, even in the present, wasnt stupid. He made a couple stupid choices, such as siding megs in the first ongoing series, but that was more from frustration at the humans and always having to do the right thing. Finally, the TFWiki, which has a whole article on unpublished Dreamwave stuff (collected from interviews with the likes of Furman,) say nothing of that. I think that dude fed you some BS.

I said I think it was issue 3, not that it was issue 3.
The thing why it's not in the un-released issue stuff is the fact that the section consists of the plot synopsis which where published by DW at the time as "look what happens in these awesome upcoming issues!" things.
http://simonfurman.wordpress.com/2010/0 ... oad-to-aa/
It was the script of issue 4 according to Simon. Maybe you can send him an e-mail and ask him for a copy?

I also seriously doubt KalPrime would tell porkies, especially as the conversation wasn't aimed at me but as McFeely who had also bought a copy but not read it yet.

I think besides Pat Lee, DW's problem was they saturated the market with all kinds of stuff. Not just TF, but others as well. Their financial sense was nowhere to be seen, even with making boat loads of cash.

The only comics I ever bought from them were the 2 G1 series, the G1 arc with Sunstorm (f**king awesome), Armada, and WW. I checked out the others, but they weren't interesting. I stopped buying when Energon came out. The only one I regret is the WW stories, as they were a lot of fun. But if any of the above about Grimlock is true, I am glad it never got finished, I really liked WW Grimlock, that would have been a complete disappointment.
