Transformers Generations Combiner Wars Discussion Thread
Re: Transformers Generations Combiner Wars Discussion Thread
I like the Vintage Preds in Beast Mode they are kinda playskool adorable looking. but for the robot modes i'd have to prefer 3rd party ; Unique toys Warlord if you want Classics toys size is actually the same price as the Predacon reissue these days on eBay - but the reissue is OK if you want the sword or you don't have the golden-paint version already.
(Do they still give you a gold repainted Prime Optimus sword - I've not checked - if they don't then i'd likely buy that version instead.)
Also are they still metal as if they changed them to plastic but kept the Gold paint I'd be modestly interested in that too if only as a partial protection from potential paint chipping issues.
I suppose the G1 version is roughly the right size for Combiner Wars though.

A important toy of my childhood was finally back into my hands.
DEFENSOR!
And contrary to the cheap-ass Seacons reissue and RID Ruination, this Scramble City combiner still hold up today.
Amazing stuff.
And because I love CW Computron so much that I even bought the Reprolabels, why not having G1 Computron as well?
No regrets here because ALL of these bots gave me unexpected surprises in how clever their transformations were. Especially for Scattershot.
The G1 and CW go so well together!
But I'll skip Bruticus and Superion because at nearly 200$CAN each with taxes....

Kanrabat! Awesome stuff! Defensor and Devastator are the only G1 Combiners I had as a kid (still have, and almost two of each!) so I'm really surprised I haven't picked up the Protectobots in whatever variant I could. I also have G1 Silverbolt and Scattershot, which are both really fun bots on their own.
In other news, my PE kit for G2asor finally arrived yesterday!! Well, finally only as it was in my BBTS PoL that just recently shipped. I do like it, not using the hands currently and the feet need to be tightened, but the look is awesome!!
My DNA kit for Devastator arrived too. Not AS thrilled as I am with it as I hoped I'd be. Tiny pinned items falling off and such. Hands are really nice though. Shoulders would be great if Scavenger and Bonecrusher tabbed in to them to make a fully solid bicep/tricep unit.

Re: Transformers Generations Combiner Wars Discussion Thread
I found a pretty good deal at my local K-Mart.
Not sure if it's limited to my area (which it could be since he's been sitting there for so long) or at other stores too, but they had CW Leader Armada Megatron for $31.94. It's just a temporary price drop, though.

$10 less and I definitely would've bought him. But alas, I didn't have any coupons.

If your area is anything like mine, the closest TRU will also have Skywarp, but at $50

Starscream & Skywarp are £25.00 in B&M and Thundercracker was £35.00 when he was in TK Maxx. I didn't think any of them were worth that - I will get them eventually when they are a bit cheaper than that.
I really don't like that Mould at all (I often dislike any mould that removes features for a remould/repaint) so i'd only be buying them as they scale well with the new leaders and as a some sort of symmetry to the smaller toys.
But that won't change my feelings about them - that Mould still sucks.

I think once again I have to step into the ring with the unpopular opinion of liking the CW Leader Seekers -- and the even more unpopular opinion that they have a way cooler design than most if not all other G1 Seekers.

Agreed on both fronts. However, while I do like the design of the toy, I feel that the IDW interpretation of that design is the one that is cooler (if not as iconic) than the G1 Seeker design.

True, true.

If memory serves me right, the design from the Combiner Wars IDW comic miniseries, and the Machinima CW series?

Playing with Magnus yesterday, I was wondering if I'm the only one afraid to break his neck on each transformation ?
Is there any reported case of breakage ?

I didn't realize this was a problem. I transformed mine a few times and the neck felt sturdy. Sometimes I just take Minimus out and fold the big head in and have Magnus stand there with no head.ExciKaiser wrote:Playing with Magnus yesterday, I was wondering if I'm the only one afraid to break his neck on each transformation ?
I haven't read any reports. Like I said, mine is sturdy even after all this time, and he's 1 of my favorite figures to fiddle with, so he sees a lot of action. Is there any reported case of breakage ?
And Kurona, I like the CW leader Seekers as well, even better than the G1 mold. At 1st I didn't like Jetfire, but he kinda grew on me, and I always liked Starscream. I always felt that mold was made for Screamer, and they just threw Jetfire in there, even if he was released 1st.

I plan on eventually getting Jetfire too since IDW OP really made me like him. It means I'll have two of the same Leader mold in my OP collection lol.

I'm another that likes the mold. I have Jetfire and all 3 seekers. My only real complaint is that the transformation is just kind of okay.
I have no problems with the size/scale, especially with Megs, Soundwave and the phase sixers all also available in Leader.

I skipped all the seeker leaders since I already had Jetfire and the similar looking seeker legends, but if I saw that and had a tenner in my pocket, I'd be on that like white on rice.

Ultra Magnus has very poor quality. I know nothing specific about the neck, but just transforming it once left stress marks on the bottom of the feet. Supposedly the Takara is better quality.

I don't know about Prime, but my Magnus has held up really well too. No stress marks or anything, and he is a figure I pull out fairly regularly

o.supreme wrote:^Do you dislike the original T30 Jetfire?
I'm not sure I much like any toy of (G1 inspired) Jetfire that's been made to a huge degree. I'm OK with the Titanium 6" I can put up with the Classics one (though it doesn't stand well) I think I still like the 1980's original best.
Generations Jetfire is OK in Jetmode - but has issues with his joints, general hollowness and to many compromises in his design - he also has a tendency to fall over due to the lack of mass in his legs.
He is however better than the "Seekers" as at least his back pack can compress a bit still.
He's very much one on my to do list in terms of a 3rd party replacement - perhaps the T30 one would be OK with a whole series of 3rd party improvements like new feet and a whole lot of gap fillers.
But he sort of reminds me of the Ultras from TF Universe 2.0 they were all pretty substandard in one way or another too. He just feels cheap to me.
So no I'm not much of a fan. - He's alright to look at but not much fun to Transform and incapable of being well posed..
I'd actually not mind a Jetfire that was a Combiner Wars Deluxe Limb (much like Shattered Starscream is) if i'm honest.
In terms of toys named Jetfire the ROTF one is a better toy (mostly) by virtue of the end result of his modes - but the actual Transformation is atrocious. I'm quite fond of the Cybertron & Armada Jetfire - the Energon One is not brilliant but is passable especially in it's "Overcast" guise.
Not top 100 for me.
