UK toy releases and TRU promotion

Postby Stickshift » Fri Jun 01, 2007 5:43 am

Further to yesterday's finds on Amazon.co.uk and at Woolworths stores I went online and in to Reading town centre to look for Movie toys:

The Entertainer (online and in store) has Voyager, Leader and Legends figures (plus all a load of cash-in stuff)
Woolworths only has the cash in items (Optimash prime, etc)

But here's the BIG ONE

Toys 'r' Us refused to sell me anything, but manager did say they have stock of EVERYTHING comming to the UK and tomorrow will be BUY ONE GET ONE 1/2 PRICE. I know where I will be at 9am tomorrow!!!!

A further update on this. The massive Doctor Who displays in all UK TRUs will be coming down tomorrow night and will be replaced with a Transformers Movie display. Looks Like Hasbro will actually be supporting the line properly in the UK for the first time in nearly 20 years.

Let's do that.

I'll be there just before 9 and will be the giant wearing a MechRC T-shirt with an Andrew Wildman robot design on it (logo below) and pushing the biggest trolley I can find!!!!!

They had some Movie stuff in the Reading TRU but they were in open boxes on the floor! Didn't see any Leader Class Prime or Megs or any Voyager Figs.

I went back at about 10 and they had Ratchet and Blackout Voyagers, even though they told us that all they had was the stuff in the boxes.

The 3" movie titaniums actually looked pretty good. Seem a lot more detailed than the previous ones.

Btw Royal Prime, nice to meet you this morning ;)

Just got back from Medway TRU and they had:

Blackout, Ratchet (both of which I now own).
Real Gear figures - Phone, Camera and MP3 player with earpiece.
Bumblebee Unleashed.
Prime Voice Changer.

When I asked about the leader class they said they should have been in but weren't. I am to check back next week.

Now I am going to free my first 2 movie figures and see whats what.

Hi,

Great to meet up with you guys today.

The rat-bastards at Reading TRU sent me all the way to Basingstoke to pick up Leader Class Prime, and when I got there it was a f'ing protofom.

Reading have since caved and agreed to pay my petrol for that little jaunt (since it was their fault I went over there) and have promised to hold Prime and Megs for me when they come in.

Looks like their ordering of Deluxe figures is also completely screwed. They went through all their Deluxe boxes and they are all protoforms!

Cretins!!!!! :-x

Happy hunting

J

Now that I have had a chance to check Blackout and Ratchet out I can give my initial opinions.

Blackout - Looks good in bot mode, looks cheap in alt mode. They really could have given him more detail. I do not like the way the rear section comes off or is so floppy. The black wash they have given him doesnt make him look like a used vehicle, it simply looks like he was left in a dirty puddle. Its a shame he cannot stand without his third leg. If the tail section had folded up it would improve the look no end. They certainly achieved the alien robot look with Blackout, his head reminds me of the Decepticon logo and its easy to see that this could have been Soundwave. He is a bit fragile and any adjustment usual makes something else lose its placing. He comes with a tiny Scorponok figure which has a sprung loaded tail, its supposed to fit into a carrying compartment in Blackouts tail but its basically just a flimsy cage and spoils the overall look.Overall 6/10

Ratchet - This is more like it! Ratchet looks good in both modes, I was worried when I saw the pics of the green but it works very well. Transformation is excellent, I had trouble with the mid section until I saw the clip to hold the two halves in place. Looks good and chunky but retains a lot of movement. I havent worked out what that thing is on his arm that opens up, when its open its round the wrong way so the painted surface points backwards. Doesnt have much in the way of Automorph, when you move his feet his kneecaps pop out allowing you to straighten his legs. Initially he doesnt appear to have as much detailing as Blackout in robot mode but it is there, its just not highlighted as much. He looks like he is wearing white lip stick on a higher than normal mouth when you first look at his face. I hope this is his nose, maybe he uses sun block. Overall 9/10 - Go get him.

Neither figures have any guns.

No... this may be due to the fact that I don't have a Blackout yet... But I'll let you decide that.

I have that on both of mine. I think it as an attempt at "detailing".

Good to see you too Wheelies Executioner. Always good to meet fellow fans.

Did they have any more stuff in town? i.e Entertainer, Woolworths, Blackwells? I keep meaning to check out John Lewis!
