yeah but G1 never made a huge production out of their transformations...no fancy weird backgrounds, no characters posing and no stopping the show cold for 10-20 seconds to show off the "cool" transformations.....back then (and in beast wars too) they simply just changed
Eh, even though they only lasted a few seconds each, the constant calls of 'Maximise! Terrorise!' followed by identical, too-expensive-to-animate-more-than-once transformations in early Beast Wars eps got old fast.
As for US G1, the only really obvious stock transformation I remember is Prime's three-quarter perspective one, which got used at least once every other episode. As soon as we got into the Japanese G1 series though, it's stock transformations everywhere. (Probably the best self-referential joke I've seen in a Japanese TF series is the scene in Headmasters where Rodimus doesn't wait for Predaking to finish his combination sequence, but stunt-jumps up a hill and crashes through the middle of the team while the anime lines background is still running!
