Remember View-Master, the Fisher-Price toy with those little 3D picture discs of mountains, rivers and caverns that you could rotate through a viewfinder? Well, DreamWorks is in negotiations to acquire movie rights to the toy from Mattel (which owns Fisher-Price) and has asked Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci to do some "Transformers"-style magic on it.

I can't decide if this is serious or a joke!!!

DreamWorks, the producers and Kane will be coming up with a story from scratch, a practice that seems to be happening more and more as Hollywood picks up properties based on the allure of brands and board games. Universal last week picked up rights to the Atari video game "Asteroids" and under its Hasbro deal is developing movies based on such games as "Battleship" and "Candyland.

What????

Brad Caleb Kane, who worked as a writer-producer on the duo's Fox series "Fringe," is on board to write the screenplay. Kurtzman and Orci would produce.

Story specifics are being kept under wraps, though Kane, who tweeted his involvement during the holiday weekend, said, "It'll be like the old '80s Amblin movies: 'Goonies,' 'Young Sherlock' ... in that vein." That post has been taken down.

If it's like Goonies it could be a winner though.

How the hell are they going to make a movie out of View-Master?? WTF???

Battleship, though, I would love to see an actual good movie made out of it.

Why don't they just give us a TIGER handheld movie while their at it

Maybe the pictures contain clues to some kind of hidden treasure, like the Da Vinci Code or something?

Thats what I thought, but having one object provide all the clues sounds pretty boring.

i've also heard serious talk of a monopoly movie.

i know it sounds like a joke...

I'm betting it's more like "National Treasure" but with a view-master. Each new clue leads to a different place where a different disc hidden. Each Disc could contain a clue to the next discs locale but the final treasure isn't revealed until all discs are found and then 1 specific frame from each has to be incorporated into a new disc (in a certain order, mind you) and then those frames, in sequence, will unlock the final clue.

If this was my 'youger days' and I still did drugs I might find some of these movie concepts intriguing or at least amusing but I have to say that I just can't figure out WTF these guys are thinking with some of their ideas unless the budgets are being kept low and their target audiences limited. If that's the case then I suppose young children may enjoy some of these and I can see where view-master would be cool but has anyone under the age of 18 even seen or heard of an original View-Master? Hell, Toys R Us sells Transformer,Pokemon and Barbie themed digital cameras for $15.00, what kid would settle for a View-Master?
