What are your all time top five favorite transformers toys?

Postby achanakbhayank » Sat Dec 15, 2018 3:01 am

My list will probably be slightly different than everyone else's due to my lack of Masterpiece toys. In no particular order...

Classics Starscream/Seekers: Sure, it's been overdone by now, but for good reason. It's one of the best jet toys ever. Pretty accurate vehicle mode, fun transformation, and probably as close as we can get to screen accuracy at the Deluxe size.

Prime RID Arcee: My favorite motorcycle and my favorite female toy. Good looking and poseable robot mode with a unique and satisfying transformation and a massive gun (where does she keep that?). Don't much care for Chromia, though. Her remolded parts make the toy too... busy.

Generations Jetfire: I have a soft spot for Jetfire toys and this is the best one I've had. Transformation can be finicky, but both modes are large, fun, and eye catching, and the super robot parts call back to his Macross origins and add an extra dimension of play. The Takara version even comes without that nasty chrome.

BW Transmetal Terrorsaur: I also have a soft spot for pterosaurs, and no pterosaur toy before or since has quite measured up to this one. Quick but satisfying transformation, two (technically three) good modes, and lots of extra joints which allow for some fiddling and fan mode potential.

RID Scourge: RID was a huge kick in the nostalgia for me, and this toy represents the best of that line. Imposing size, tons of features, decent articulation (it was a late G2 toy, after all), and a deliciously evil color scheme. I often had his trailer and Mega Octane form their own little Decepticon base on my bedroom floor.

Honorable Mentions: Generations Springer, Generations Arcee, BW Silverbolt, BM Strika, BM Jetstorm (Deluxe)

1. CW Liokaiser: Because I've been dying for seeing my favorite combiner getting the CW treatment it deserve, even though they should've worked with integrating Leozack and Jallguar into the combination but I can live with it as the individual robots made up for it.
2. MP-10 Optimus Prime: Easily hands down the best rendition of G1 Optimus Prime to date.
3. Titans Return Soundwave: The best looking G1 Soundwave with a lot of cool features, as well as a cheaper alternative to the Masterpiece version.
4. CW Superion/Bruticus: Both are tied as being the best rendition of their G1 designs as well as both the combined modes being well designed and the individual robots being excellent on their own.
5. Legends Super Ginrai: Despite lacking the core Ginrai robot for the chest, it is a massive improvement over the Powermaster Prime mold, with the arms no longer having hollow spaces and the feet being well articulated. It is the best recreation of Super Ginrai to date, barring third-party.

Motto: "Transform and rise up!"
Weapon: Fusion Cannon
Gotta go with:

1. Combiner Wars Leader-class Megatron (G1) - One of my most anticipated figures that I pre-ordered and got. Super happy with him and he always sits in my number one spot because of how practical he is.
2. MP-36 Megatron - It's awesome. I gotta say it's really worthy of being here in the number two spot. The transformation is a bit torture though.
3. Beast Wars Transmetal Megatron - I'm extremely gentle with mine so it hasn't had the unfortunate break that happens on the waist. It has a special place though in my collection because it was my "first" ever since owning a G1 Optimus Prime that got lost to the sands of time.
4. Unicron 25th Anniversary/Platinum Edition - Just wish the light up eyes were green or purple personally.
5. Revenge of the Fallen Leader-class Megatron - I am a sucker for the voice gimmick, nothing like hearing "I am Megatron!" and getting giddy over it. XD

Honorable Mentions: CW Devastator and TR Trypticon.

Top 5 favorite transformers... that's kind of hard.

hmm...

R.I.D Mega/Galva/Giga/tron. Love that figure to bits. Specially his Huge Hand mode.

Classics Prime/Magnus. Still one of the more fun toys to come out of that first batch of Classics.

Armada Overload, have a soft spot for that big red brick of a figure.

MB-11 Optimus Prime. Don't know why, I just have a lot of fun with that guy as fiddly as he is to transform. He also looks amazing, and I love that he screams at me in Japanese.

Cybertron Primus. I've never owned Unicron outside of the Cybertron Deluxe, so my go to planet former has always been Primus, and he's just a ton of fun.

This is a bit hard for me. I'm predominately a G1 collector, so must of the new stuff isn't going to be on there. And I might end up fudging juuuuust a little.

5.) G1 Optimus Prime.

Prime is, in many ways, the quintessential Transformer toy. He was one of the first Transformers ever released, he was the spotlight of the first two seasons of the cartoon, and nearly every modern Transformers series revolves around him. On top of that, he has a huge number of features the set him apart from the rest of his release line. A detachable tractor trailer comes to mind, as well as a repair bay and his launchable scout car, Roller. To this day, the G1 Prime toy has been often imitated but seldom surpassed.

4.) G1 Dreadwing. This is where I fudge a bit, because Dreadwing is the combined forms of Darkwing and Dreadwind. But what happens when you get a self-loathing depressive and an unbridled sociopathic nihilist together in the same room, with just a pinch of binary-bonding? You get magic, that's what. Magic made of rainbow sprinkles and fetid broccoli farts. Magic with that wields giant guns, turn into a pair of sizable jets, launch little robot engine parts and then combine into a soul-sucking interstellar rocket designed to bring madness and despair to every corner of the galaxy.

3.) G1 Fortress Maximus. So let me get this straight. Number one, this is a Transformer that can squash a toddler if it topples over. Number two, it has a head that turns into a robot. And then it's head turns into another frickin' robot. It's like robot Inception, just without Leonardo DiCaprio. But number three? A working elevator, a rotating radar dish, more ramps than I-10 in Houston, and a jail cell? You have just made or ruined every kid's Christmas in 1987, depending on whether they got a Fort Max or not.

2.) Victory Victory Saber. You start off with a small robot. A Brain of Courage, so he's called. And the Brain of Courage can pilot a jet. But then that jet turns into a robot, and the Brain of Courage has to take an elevator like he's a frickin' Power Ranger in order to make this robot's face. And the resulting robot is called Saber. But whoa-ho, we're not done. Then Saber folds in half and jumps inside a giant space ship to form a new robot's chest, and this robot is called Star Saber. What the hell, this is awesome! But then Star Saber breaks a lion in half and wears his legs as boots, and then dons the lion's head to give himself a jet pack. And to top it all off, they both then turn into a giant robot convoy ship armed with particle cannons and a rail gun.

1.) Masterforce Overlord. Overlord was kind of the big-bad from the last IDW run. Which really makes a lot of sense, if you just look at his toy. A giant robot tank and an SR-71 Blackbird then combine to make an impressively tall robot that bristles with secrets and armory. His size, alone, makes him one of the largest figures in my collection--he's roughly as tall as G1 Scorponok. By inserting his engine companions, Mega and Giga, Overlord can then display machine guns and missile launchers that are inserted in his chest. And then that doesn't even count his base mode, which includes a communications tower, a scout car, and artillery battery, and a repair station. To be fair, much of Overlord's inclusion on number one on my list was IDW's portrayal of him. Regardless, Overlord is a super impressive inclusion in the Masterforce line, and I sadly feel that the Titans Return version doesn't come close to the original's mastery.

Honorable mentions: G1 Soundwave, G1 Devastator, G1 Doubledealer, G1 Bludgeon, G1 Ultra Magnus.

Throttlebotsrevenge's hall of SHAME: G1 Runabout/Runamuck, G1 Topspin/Twin Twist, G1 Action Master Jazz, any GPS afflicted figure, and all of the Throttlebots. Especially Wideload.

Weapon: Spinning Augers
My top 5 changes a lot, usually when I get something new. I will only include toys that I currently own even though some that I had in the past would probably be in my top 5 if I still had them (optimus primal is one bad cybertronian).

5. ss lockdown: one of my favorite bayformers and an official toy that actually does him justice. I display him with the transforming justice league flying fox (which for those that don't know turns from ship to base and includes a jail cell and a secondary holding compartment; seemed like a good fit). As of right now I'd have to say he is my favorite deluxe.

4. Tr alpha trion: I was watching aoe 2 years back and randomly had the urge to buy a transformer toy which I had not done in roughly 13 years. Got alpha trion and I've been hooked (again) every since. He's a triple changer. He's a beastformer. What's not to like? On top of that he's a headmaster which adds a whole other level of playability. Currently I have saw sawback attached as the head, with shuffler and overboards vehicles attached on the back of the shoulders in beast mode. Set up like this, he reminds me of magnaboss who I always wanted but never had.

3. Tlk Voyager megatron: the bot mode looks incredible and megatron is my favorite bayformer (edging out lockdown just ever so slightly). Even though I hated this movie, the toy is incredible and one of the most imposing looking bots regardless of size. The transformation is actually enjoyable compared to so many movie figures and no parts pop off. Like many others, I have repurposed him as liege maximo.

2. Tlk primus: I love the deco on this guy. Another thing that I like is the key that is needed for transformation. Some may not like it and I can see why, but to me it's an added play element. In order to unleash the planetary power of primus the mcguffin must be found.

1. Predaking: this is what I'm talking about when I say my list changes all the time. I just got this for christmas and yeah sure, he has some flaws. But he is one impressive piece of machinery when combined. He wont stay in the number 1 slot forever but for now he is the king. The predaking.

Honorable mentions: tr sixshot, tr overlord, ss rotf megatron, tr trypticon, piranacon, tr twinferno, nitro Zeus, dotm shockwave, volcanicus
