Some of my favorite characters in the Cartoon where not even the big and the flashy.

One of my all time favorites for example was Beachcomber. I liked how he tried to protect the enviroment.

I also liked Seaspray.

What un-sung heros of the transformer universe did you like? I guess to help qualify them, I would suggest that you use characters who's toys costed very little. Toys like Beachcomber, Seaspray, Cosmos, Cliffjumper, etc.

How do we know who is a non-main character?

I wouldn't have considered any that you just stated.

Cliffjumper was in the spotlight many times.

Beachcomber and Seaspray had their own respective episode centered mainly around them.

Cosmos was shown a good deal since he and Omega Supreme where the only space-veering Autobots.

Those are characters that are a lot more in the main character list than say Skids and other TFs that only appeared for 10 mins. in the entire G1 episodes and didn't add to the plot.

...well, as likely guessed by my avatar and my username, I really would've liked to have seen Kranix not get bumped-off or used again in some other medium. "Last survivor of an entire planet" might be a bit cliché at this point, but it's always an interesting approach. As a kid, I always figured he could've gone off and spent the rest of his days trying to scour the galaxy for any other survivors, or maybe jumping-in like the Junkions and helping the Autobots in some way (the opening bit of the old movie made him appear to be a kind of scientist). Then again, he didn't transform, and he looked too alien for him not to just be fodder, I guess...

I always liked the Overdrive from the Omnibots. He never appeared in the comics or cartoon. I guess it's because he had fold out wings in car mode, like Tracks.

Yeah, but Skids was a main character during the early days of the comics (he even got a entire issue all for himself). So nearly every TF has been in the spotlight depending on the media.

Speaking of G1: Seasons 1 and 2

Autobots: Mirage, Hound and Clifjumper

Decepticons: Thundercracker, Frenzy

Humans: Chip Chase--Had a slight crush on him! (Why was he not in either of the '86 or '07 movies?????) :sad:

Actually Kranix-76, it may interest you to know that in the old Marvel comic book adaption of the movie, Kranix transformed into some kind of spacecraft and that's how he escaped.

My favourite non-main characters?

Cloudburst and Landmine

Thundercracker (if only they'd delved into his doubts about the Decepticon cause)

Skullgrin

Autobot Double Targetmasters especially Scoop

Quake (took on Megatron in the UK comics and survived)

Soundblaster (so wanted to see where Dreamwave would have taken him characterwise. Since he was in the cloning laboratory where Sunstorm came from and was a seperate entity to Soundwave)

One episode about someone does not make them a main character. I know Cliffjumper is kind of a stretch because they use him fairly often. But his toy was one of the cheaper ones.

I always liked Smokescreen and Red Alert, they seemed to be background characters in the cartoon.

I always like Red Alert, Inferno, Trailbreaker, Mirage and Silverstreak.

Red Alert got his own episode, Inferno had lines in about 3 episodes, Trailbreaker used his powers a few times, and Mirage had an episode or two about him, and he played a huge part in MtMtE3. So I dont know if any count as main charatcers.

For the most part, any Decepticon who was not Megatron, Starscream, Soundwave or Shockwave got very little attention. I would have loved more focus on the Triple Changers, Triple Takeover is still one of my favourite episodes.
