What does your wife/girlfriend think of your TFs?

There is more to Transformers than movies, cartoons, comics and toys. Discuss anything else Transformers here.

My girlfriend doesn't share my love, but she does support it. We went to see the movie and when I picked her up she surprised me with an LOC Barricade  . She also got me the complete DVD set of G1 cartoons (including the movie) for my birthday

No, judging by the T-Shirt and look of adoration, I'd say 'no'.

If I had a boyfriend, I'd support almost any of his hobbies as long as they were legal, not dangerous, and the bills were still getting paid and the common areas of the house still clean.

Never really understood a lot of women's seeming need to dump on their man's hobbies, especially since in some cases they're shooting themselves in the foot. For instance, I have some barbershop-singing friends whose wives rag on them about it, when barbershopping is pretty darn high on the list of hobbies you'd want your guy to have, IMHO.

Anyhoo. I like a lot of "guy" hobbies myself, so the point is mostly moot in my case. And at this point I can't afford to be picky anyway.

My wife has contributed most of the really valuable stuff that's in my collection - G1r Megatron, G1r Soundwave, G1r Perceptor, and G1 Ravage. And although I paid for them, I think she was the one that found Bombshell and Shrapnel for me. She also gave me Classics Grimlock (whom I had been desperately searching for) like 15 minutes before our wedding started.

Couldn't convince her to get me a G1r Sixshot this Christmas though. She insisted the colors were hideous.

She might make a Classics Thundercracker for me though.
Check out my books, Titanomachies and Divine Retribution, on my blog!

My wife isn't into Transformers, but she totally supports my addiction. She went to Botcon with me this year, she bought me MP Megatron for Valentines day, and she bought me two Alternator Jazz for my birthday.

She's a saint.

I honestly could care less what my girlfriend (past, present or future) would think about my collecting.

In no particular order:

1.) My bills are paid every month.
2.) I have food on my table.
3.) I have enough clothing to choke a horse.

So, I've pretty much covered the necessities, so honestly, what's the big deal?

I've had exes that made me sell off my collections, I've exes that complained yet let me collect, I've had exes (and a current girlfriend) who were not only supportive but actually helped me get some of the figures I have.

Not every woman is t3h 3v!L folks. Granted, if she loves you enough, the collecting shouldn't matter (and you seriously need to remind her of that like...yesterday)

However, saying things like:

vulgar_wraith wrote:My wife knows she will end up like Sara Peterson if she goes after my collection.

Is not only disgusting and completely humorless, but goes to show that there's far more wrong with the situation, than just quibbles over collecting. Might even require therapy if it gets to that point.

gogleman374 wrote:Pfft. Who need girls when you have your right hand?

I did I have a girlfriend at one point that said I had to give up Tf collecting if I wanted her to stick around. I kicked her to the curb.

Granted, she was wrong, but this whole "Kick 'er to the curb!" attitude is crappy.

Find real complaints about one another people, not this who bought what, who's collecting what junk.

Heck, my current girlfriend is fully supportive of my collecting, but the love is slowly going down the drain for both of us. Our problems are me and her, not what we do.

I'm sure a great many of you really do have problems with your significant other wanting you to cull the collection, etc...but has it ever occurred to you that perhaps this is the way they chose to manifest their anger and displeasure towards you?

Most people go for the thing that hurts the most. People like to stick to: wound, don't kill because the torture and pain makes for a fate worse than death.

That's not a relationship anyone should be in, collecting or not.

And no, I'm not saying that you should consider ending your collecting because your mate says so, I'm not saying you should be angry with her/him and kick 'em to the curb, but it might be a good idea to sit down with them, talk it through and explain your side of it, get their's and see if you can find a common ground.

If not, then it's time to move on to someone else. Before anyone says "Over some toys?!" let me just say...it's the toys today, but what will it be tomorrow? What will they do that drives you nuts? Etc. Etc.

There are more serious, deep seated problems in your relationship, and the collecting is merely a tool to fight back. Find out what's causing the fight to begin with and you'll be one step ahead to finding happiness. (With or without that person)

Has everyone seen that new ebay commercial? It shows a picture of frog rain boots while the voice over says: "Don't just get them a gift that says 'I love you,' get them a gift that says I KNOW you and I love you anyway."

That pretty much sums up me and my wife. Its not her favorite thing in the world but she understands it's important to me.

I'd say her biggest beef with it would be the money aspect and since I'm a student and have no income besides student-loans I see her point.

Cellibacy, for the win!

Although, I gotta admit, that chubby goth waitress at the bar I usually hit ain't all that bad looking... :-?

At any rate, those here who follow my posts know that I no longer date. And the TF's collection came along long after that decision was made. At times, I think about going back on the lifestyle I've chosen and I worry how ever would I manage to bring home a girl and still get her to stick around when she takes one look at my collection. Although, I would like to think if I ever were to be with a woman again, I would be lucky enough to find myself with a woman that is one of my friends, or would be much like my female friends. They're all super-supportive of my collection and think its awesome. One female friend went as far as describe me as breed of man that was hard to find these days: the kind that knows what he likes and stands up for it, against any ridicule that I might get. I happen to be quite proud of my collection.

I just remember one thing as far as dating again and my collection. My Transformers are still going to be their long after she has left me for the guy she was cheating on me with.

...you're interested (albeit slightly and I do mean slightly) in a woman, yet you instantly think a woman will leave you and cheat on you?

Has it ever occurred to you that maybe, just maybe...that downtrodden mood is what might drive a woman out of your life?

No one's asking you to give up the collection, but if you really have no hope...to that degree, no woman will want to stick around. She most certainly won't want to help you climb out of the pit you're in if you're constantly pushing her hand away as she reaches out to you.

If I looked at life as sad as that (and I get depressed!)...I think I'd probably drink myself under the table every night and pop pills along with it.

Wow. Just...wow.

Seriously, life isn't that bad man!

I am slightly interested because 60+ years of my only action in life being the Paris Hilton sex tape tape set on autoloop on my computer moniter seems a bit... Lacking, shall I say. Perhaps saying that out loud makes me come across as shallow, but when you think about it also makes me seem honest, doesn't it? At least I don't make false promises and claim to be a better person than I am. Like Dinobot once said: "Tell my tale to those who ask, but tell it truly."

Autobot032 wrote:Has it ever occurred to you that maybe, just maybe...that downtrodden mood is what might drive a woman out of your life?

Has it ever occured to you that a fence, rather physical or emotional, are not only built to keep others out but to keep things in that should never be let out?

You misjudge. I fail to see where I come across as downtrodden. Bitter, perhaps. Can you ask any guy who was engaged only to have it all end in her unfaithfulness and ultimately leaving to be cheerful about the idea of dating again?

But as far as "downtrodden mood" goes, you are incorrect. Bitter towards the idea of a relationship? Yes, I will tell you are correct. But what you are seeming to suggest is a negative outlook on life. That, my friend, is incorrect in the highest degree. My life, currently, rocks. I'm nineteen and about to have my own place all to myself. Guess how much I owe on my car? One grand. Guess when I bought it? March. Here's something you weren't expecting: I love my job. The only thing I'd change is the getting up at three in morning, but... Otherwise, everytime I go home after work, I go home with a smile on my face because I just have this feeling that I just accomplished something.

Bitter towards dating again? Yepp. Bitter towards women? Not at all; my sister makes sure I don't loose faith in the opposite gender: my sister rocks. Depressed outlook on life in general? You misjudge.
