Have Takara made it known whether they consider making new molds from an intact original toy to be too expensive?

I heard some one here once say that Takara didnt think it was worth putting in that much work and money into a reissue.

That's just fan speculation. Never say never. :D

Your ingaging in wishfull thinking.Call it "fan speculation" if you wish but if Takara was going to try to make new molds from an intact original toy dont you think they would have done so by now.Takara has been doing G1 reissues for over 10 years now and the closest thing they've done to repairing a damaged mold was making a new head for the Jazz mold. And there was a statement made by Takara that they wouldnt be re-casting any molds for toys like G1 Swoop and the damaged to his mold was about equil to that of Wheeljacks mold.I just wish I could find that statement.

You're right, it probably is wishful thinking. However, you have to admit that things can change. It is possible that they have decided NOT doing those characters would be a poor decision.

I really depends on the demand of japanies people if they want a figure and are willing to buy it then I'm sure takara will find a way to do it. Just look at sky lynx and his upcoming re-release. I'm sure it cost them alot to get the rights from the original company to make the figure again.

I'm not engaging in wishful thinking. What I am trying to say is - don't put words in Takara's mouth. As fans, we love to ponder reasons why Takara doesn't do certain reissues. Unfortunately, the things that fans tend to say are not based on facts, which makes them speculations.

I have never seen any statements from Takara regarding their reissues. Are you sure that the statement you are referring to isn't something that a fan stated 11 months ago? At that time, pictures of a protytpe Swoop surfaced. It was unclear if the pictures came from Takara or someplace else. A few fans stated that it had to be a KO Swoop (again not based on statements from Takara). Other fans then began discussing why it couldn't be from Takara and unfortunately that hearsay quickly turned into verbatim.

Now occassionally, Hasbro answers questions about molds and reissues at Botcon. Fans tend to take the statements and apply them to Takara. Unfortunately, the answers that Hasbro gives cannot necessarily be applied to Takara. So if Hasbro says a mold is lost or they are unwilling to repair and reissue a broken mold, does not mean the same thing for Takara. Takara may decide to fix a broken mold - ala Soundwave/Soundblaster, which is why I said "Never say never".

The statement I'm referring too was reported at the Japanes Toyfare in between 2002 or 2004.The were announcing the new line up for the Dreamwave reissues of that year and of course their were people with questions.Takara made the statment that Wheeljack's mold was damaged beyond their disire to repair. This statment did make its way to a few of the fansites in news reports from the show but weter or not it was reported correctly I can not say because I was not there myself. It may well be that who ever made the report was dealing in speculation.
And by the way the Soundwave/Souldblaster repair job was originaly done back in 1988.The repair and remold needed was minor and can-not be compaired to the posible damaged that may have happened to the mold after 20 more years.
