For instance, there is very little demand for redecos into niche characters that people don't know don't well. So thats why Quake and Krok shelfwarmed pretty hard even at discount retailers.

There is a greater demand for Optimus than Megatron, so since siege Megatron and Optimus ship in the same case you need a lot of cases to satisfy the demand for Optimus toys, but you are left with megatrons that people dont want, making them shelfwarm.

I only ever saw a single Quake in my home town, and that was at a Walgreens of all places.

I wrote an example based on a general trend, what happened in your area may be different. I was looking at it as a whole. When Ollies bought all the TRU overstock, there was lots of Crocs, Quakes and Overlords to go around. All those are rather niche characters (and also happen to be redecos).

Technically it's Sky Shadow who was the redeco, and he's just as niche as Overlord if not moreso. Titans Return did that weird thing with Voyagers and Leaders where they released a mold's secondary character (if it had one) first.
I think in Overlord's case timing had a lot to do with the quantity too - lots of him left since he was a tail-end figure and thus one of the last to have been stocked in the first place.

I never saw any of the later-wave Leaders at my local Targets because bloody Turbo-changer Dragonstorm was clogging the shelf space for them.

By the way, all kidding aside, I think the overall feeling is that the skyshadow/overlord mold we got in Titans Return was better worn by Skyshadow. I know I felt it. Then again, its a cool mold and skyshadow was released first, so that probably had quit a bit to do with it.

I only own Overlord, who the mold was mainly intended as (since it splits into a jet and the Gigatank), and yet I sadly agree. Mostly because on Overlord THEY FORGOT TO INCLUDE A PROPER CONNECTOR FOR THE SMEGGING TANK  #-o :-x :BANG_HEAD:

Do you agree with what I said about Black Shadow/Sky Shadow not being any less niche than Overlord?

Yes, 100%. I even think Black Shadow is even more niche. It just didnt change what I was trying to say so I didnt really mention it. I assume fans buy all that they want, so what you are left with (the majority of purchases) is parents for their kids. To them, both those characters are niche and are basically just big robot toys, but one came out first.
