No, you just have to value it enough to spend your money on it. You could work at McDonald's for a few months and save up that much. If that is what one chooses to spend his/her money on, so be it. Who are you or I to judge?
It looks like you are trying to generate discussion about spending money on figures. Lots of money. This has already been discussed quite a bit; just peek at any thread about Botcon figures.
It all comes down to personal choice and what you value. In the art world, for instance, spending $10,000.00 on a piece of art is chump change in many circles. Of course, you have to have $ (or credit) in order to spend $. Therefore, logic says that yes, the rich are more likely to buy expensive things than the poor. Once again, it comes back to a matter of value. $4,000 is totally different to a migrant worker than it is to a multi-millionaire. It doesn't mean it is out of a poor person's reach, but the sacrifice made to get it will have varying impacts depending on one's economic status.
Lapse Of Reason wrote:For me personaly, whether or not I have the space to display a figure factors into my purchase descision quite often. That is why I'm selective about what I buy. It isn't always the money, it's just the fact that I'll have to put the thing somewhere in my increasingly growing collection. That is why I skipped most of Armada, Energon and Cybertron.
